  1. Kyle Connor used to play with Scheifle and Wheeler. The 3 year stat can be misleading to how they are playing this year.
Kyle Connor has been playing with PLD + Svechnikov/Perfetti/Others this year, which has been a bright spot, with the occasional bad defensive game. Not sure what the fix is for the 1st line and letting the 4th line get some more minutes and chances to score.
He also started to play a bit more PK and has been very good on the PK, which is doing a lot better now. They were 29th PK at the start of the new year.
Copp and Ehlers were out for injury for awhile. 3rd and 4th lines keep getting injuries to find a good groove.
Jets have scored 33 fewer goals than league average finishers. So many shots but rarely is the goalie screened or forced to work hard to make the save. They are underperforming on expected goals by such a wide margin compared to past seasons where they scored more than their expected.

The defense has been inconsistent this year. Stanley, who they protected in the expansion draft, has been a healthy scratch after he came back from injury. First game back he made some mistakes that lead to goals against.

  2. WPG has arguably underperformed in the postseason the past several years. They already fired the coach, trying to get a bounce from that like VAN and EDM did. So far? Meh. After this season, then, if changing the coach doesn't work, the next options are either (1) get different players or (2) get a new GM. To save their job, most GMs would pick option 1 and hope for the best. If WPG catches lightning in a bottle like MTL did last year, great. If not, odds are it's getting blown up.

  3. Steve’s right it makes so much sense that Jim Matheson of all people who’s a reporter for the oilers of all teams is the one saying this. The oilers are still to this day the only team without an analytics department. My hate for them grows everyday. They’re gonna waste the career of the most skilled hockey player in the history of the game. What a damn shame

  4. I watch ever game. They have so much skill. Need a coach that can put a couple of good systems together and motivate. Dave Lowry dosent do that.

  5. Man I'm a stats guy but seeing Guentzel on that list makes me seriously consider its usefulness of WAR on its own. Guy is dynamite.

  6. Steve looks too uncomfortable talking about the jets. Anything but his leafs and his blood sugar starts to go through the roof 🤡

  7. Why would they blow it up? If anything I can see them trading Copp and a defenceman. What this team needs is to blow up the coaching staff.

  8. I'm from Winnipeg. Watch every Jets game. Scheifele and Wheeler play like they don't care. I'm not opposed to making some big moves and trading Scheifele while he might still be worth something. Wheeler makes too much, so won't be traded. Kyle Connor and PLD play their asses off most nights, but the leaders don't seem to care. Having said that, I'd be very surprised if Chevy trades anyone of consequence.

  9. Yeah, I agree with Steve's point about Scheifele and Wheeler coasting (not skating). This season more than in past seasons. Scheifele more than Wheeler. It is painful to watch. He just waits for his teammates to get the puck to him….

  10. I am a die hard jets fan, and I hate the idea of blowing this team up. Scheifele has been a top point producing player in the league for the past 5 years at least, so I think you definitely don’t get rid of him. Wheeler can go, but no one would take him. Connor and ehlers absolutely have to stay. I think we need to get a new head coach in the off season, as Lowry is just a copy paste of Maurice. Get that new coaching staff and have a fresh start next season. Also, trade Copp at the deadline for some assets.

  11. We need a coach. Just look Calgary and Vancouver for what a coach can do for a team of talented players without a direction. There's a definite before and after for those teams. This team is so close and it's so frustrating. Like I never know which team will show up. They play really well and win against Tampa and loose to Arizona. I don't get it.

  12. The real story is that Mathews is out of toronto the second his contract is up. The leafs should trade him before they lose him for nothing. He will never win a playoff series while still in toronto.

  13. I love this team but I agree, Scheif and Wheeler are playing brutal defensively, Connor has been a primary assist on probably 20 goals against. I hope we bring in a coach that makes all 5 guys play defense or they get less ice time. I think we're a great team with tons of stars and we need someone to fit the puzzle pieces together. Maurice's right hand man is not the guy for the job.

  14. Life long Jets fan from the original WHA team. I just believe this current group is satisfied with putting out the effort and doesn't care about winning anymore. A blowup is likely warranted but Chevy will never do it.

  15. Kyle Connor being on that list is mind blowing to me. Cause he actually is good defensively. You can watch some tape and find that one out

  16. Need a good coach who players respect and Hellebuck is not going to do it for them. Trade him while some think he is still good .

  17. As a Jets fan, the issue is forwards in their own zone. We need a coaching staff that will teach the forwards how to play in their own zone and not turn the puck over 5 ft from the defensive blue line.

Schieffele and Wheeler are terrible defensively however, they are point a game plus players. I think that if they (and the other forwards) could just be a little more defensive zone conscious they'd be a great team.

Also, when you look at the defense you have Morrissey and Pionk who are the only players who have been here for more than 2 years.
I think the rest have played well and I think the Jets purposely built the defense the way they wanted to. There has to be some time for them to see if they're a good core.

There's no need to do anything major (getting Schmidt and Dillion and Dubois was major).

This year has been crap from the covid protocol for both Scheif and Wheels out of the gate to all the postponed games with a week between games because the arena here was shutdown, coaching change, and injuries. I don't know what other teams have faced but all the Canadian teams except Calgary and Toronto are doing well. The Oilers are only 4 pts ahead of the Jets so it's not like the Jets are crappy.

I really think it's now a coaching staff that can take this team from good to great that's needed and to me the area to focus on for improvement is glaringly obvious.

  18. if that guy hardly cover's the Jets, I don't put any stock in it. Im not saying the Jets are perfect, far from it, but to blow it up, seems a huge stretch. Changes are needed, first and foremost a proper coach. I don't have a solution for 55/26, put 26 is a drag on the team salary wise.

  19. I hate to use this as an excuse but the whole big buff saga was the turning point in terms of leadership

  20. They pissed away the prime years and contracts of most of the team. Might as well blow it up. No reason to wait.

  21. We need younger players and give them NHL time get rid of most of roster.
And the city and province compared to other places would be a bottom 5 destination. So should draft guys who actually want to be here or whl ect
