Au début du septième match, la nouvelle n’aurait pas pu être bien meilleure pour les Penguins de Pittsburgh : Sidney Crosby, Tristan Jarry et Rickard Rakell reviendraient tous dans l’alignement pour ce match à faire ou à mourir avec leur ennemi divisionnaire. Kreider a ouvert le pointage, mais Danton Heinen a réussi à créer l’égalité avec un but en avantage numérique avant la fin de la première période. Dans le 2e, Jake Guentzel a poursuivi son rythme effréné, inscrivant son HUITIÈME but de la série. Les seuls autres joueurs des Penguins à avoir marqué huit buts dans une série ? Mario Lemieux et Sidney Crosby. Le record de franchise pour les buts dans une série est de neuf, détenu par Lemieux. Le but lui-même était une œuvre d’art – une rondelle rebondissante, lancée par le patin de Guentzel et frappée par-dessus l’épaule de Shesterkin pour donner aux Penguins une avance de 2-1. C’était vraiment une œuvre d’art. Miller a renoué les choses, 2-2, peu de temps après, mais Evan Rodrigues n’a pas laissé les Penguins entrer dans l’entracte avec une égalité. Tout en tuant une pénalité, Rodrigues a placé son bâton dans un bon endroit, a récupéré une rondelle et a allumé les jets, faisant un revers devant Shesterkin pour donner aux Penguins une avance de 3-2 avant le deuxième entracte. Le seul but du 3e a été marqué par Zibanejad pour égaliser le match à 3-3 après que Marcus Pettersson ait été contraint de quitter la glace en raison de la chute de son casque. Lors de cet échange de joueurs, Zibanejad a pu lancer un tir dans le filet. En prolongation, Brock McGinn a été appelé pour avoir tenu avec un joueur des Rangers sur près d’une échappée pour empêcher un but. Alors que les Penguins ont fait ce qu’ils pouvaient, Panarin a réussi à battre Tristan Jarry et à mettre fin au match, à la série et à la saison des Penguins. So close. Too much adversity and self-inflicted wounds. Disappointing to have blown that lead especially after what went down in game five. Crosby and Guentzel's huge efforts in particular seem wasted.

Pens drop a 3 – 1 series lead ? Time to fire everyone from the coach down and start all over . That is embarrassing . Only team to do that twice . And to all of you crying about Crosby , there is an example of him not making a difference .
8:27 if Marino puts that puck behind the net around the boards instead of trying to put it out front of his own net the Pens might've won this game and the series. There was less than 6:00 left in the game and they had the lead.

Up 3-1 in the series. It's all about them taking their foot off the gas and just rolling over. Letang and Geno were ghosts through most of this series. Someone other than Sid and Jake have to start being consistent in scoring

A nice try in game 7. The time to go all in was game 6 though, at least with Jarry.
The Pens also failed to target Panerin or Zubenajad at all. They just don't play the heavy game like that. You see how it payed off huge for the Rangers, Rakell out for almost the entire series and Crosby out for a game and a half for the low price of a single minor penalty. It's a no-brainer (pun intended), tiny risk and huge reward to rough up the talented forwards.
If any combination of Malkin/Letang/Rust leave via free agency, what is the point of Crosby sticking around risking further head injury for a team that might struggle to make the playoffs, let alone win a first round series? Obviously he loves the game, but at some point he has to consider his long term health.
NYR fan here in STL….Penguins were gutsy and proved a very difficult opponent. Such an evenly matched series. Glad Crosby, Jarry, and Rackell were able to play in game 7. Hope the Rangers can beat the Hurricanes in Round 2. It won’t be easy!

They shouldn't call a penalty in overtime in game 7 unless there is blood drawn, that is absolutely ridiculous, a little hook draws a penalty in ot!
