  1. Gilles Gilbert never got the recognition he truly deserves. A true Boston Bruins. One of the best. However. What Bernie accomplished during these 3 years including the year the Flyers lost to the Canadiens is stuff of legends. To this day I'm wondering how things would have played out in 76 if Rick McLeish one of the most talented players in the league at the time and Bernard Parent the leagues primary goalie if they would have been healthy 🤔🤔🤔

  2. One of the worse things about America in the 70's is that Kate Smith never sang the anthem at a Super Bowl.

  3. I watched this game on TV. Afterward I drove 140 miles to St. Paul and the next day started a 40 year career on the railroad. Good memories. A lot of class shown by Booby Orr and Phil Esposito stopping to shake Kate Smith’s hand.

  4. some of the flyers players came from the bruins in the 67 draft. parent, lonsberry, dornhoffer and maybe some others plus the start of the wha had thinned the bruins and the league, but that's ancient history.

  5. Thought the late penalty on Orr was cheap, but the Flyers were full value for their win. Parent, in my view, put on a goaltending exhibition that may have only been matched by Roy in '86 and '93. They got he win on Garden ice that they needed to grab home advantage, and, lets face it, they were pretty much unbeatable at home in this era, until they ran into the '76 Habs. Shero's game plan ( dump the puck to Orr's side and hit him over and over ) worked. I think it would have hurt a lot more than '74 if we had lost to those cheap shot artists in 2011.

  6. As a North Stars fan, this was tough to take. Just one season earlier, the North Stars and Flyers finished the regular season with identical records. Philadelphia beat Minnesota 4-2 in the opening round and lost the next round, 4-1, to Montreal. The two teams headed in opposite trajectories from there. The North Stars missed the playoffs in '74, and the Flyers became the first expansion team to win the Cup.

  7. I was Canadiens fan but 2 great teams even though I hated them at the time. Take me back to 1970s hockey.

  8. I don't know why the flyers took gene hart off of tv but I would turn down the tv and listen to gene hart and bobby Taylor .

  9. Was in 8th grade at St Richards in South Philly ! We were having our May Procession and the 8th grade was in Cap And Gown ! I hid a bag in the churches rest room and had my T-shirt and shorts under it ! I went to the rest room as soon as we marched into the church ! Took off my cap and gown and snuck out the side door and ran to the Spectrum sneaking in the side door in Lee of the police on horses and got in just as Kate Smith started singing! I would have gotten in a lot of trouble but the Flyers won the cup ! I was on the Ice and the city went wild !

  10. To us young and die hard Leaf fans of the mid seventies, the Flyers were much more than the Broad Street Bullies; they were Public Enemy #1. Yet after seeing a few of these cup final games between them and the Bruins after 47 years, I can clearly see how good of an overall team they were. They certainly deserved their 2 cups and the elevation of Bobby Clarke to his eternal place in Flyer Sainthood.

  11. Love watching these old games as lived back then but can’t help but think that half of these players would not be able to play in todays game that is so fast and talented

  12. Hey Bobby Orr, you may be the greatest hockey player of all time, but even you cannot score from the penalty box.

  13. I always hated the Broad Street Bullies, but, they deserved this one. Bobby Orr my man!
