I’ve got Chris Pronger listed as mine, took 3 teams to a cup final, especially the 05-06 Oilers and that 2010 Flyers team with subpar goaltending. I feel like you're undervaluing Scheifele's impact on the team as a whole, and in terms of veterans going out literally Wheeler's contract will be up at the same time as Scheifele's so if anything they'd simply resign Wheeler to a lower cap hit due to his age or let Wheeler walk or trade Wheeler at the deadline. Scheifele's likely gonna be the next captain for the Jets.
Would love a commentary comparing some upcoming rookies…. ie.. compare Power, Sanderson, Hughes, Edvinsson… and Goalies Askarov, Cossa, and Whalsteadt…. with respect to fantasy values and when they are expected to be full time players
It would be surprising if Matthews stayed as healthy as OV has. OV is a bull & is rarely injured, so Matthews will have a has a hard time being close to OV for that reason alone.

Matthews beating OV will depend on the team around him. he might be good enough but OV also has had a high quality team around him his whole career.
I'm sorry but yes Matthews is elite but Ovi is one of those that doesn't come along very often,Matthews just doesn't feel like that type of rare player.
Thoughts: Rasmussen was selected by Holland. Of course he won't live up to where he was selected, but that's because Holland had already totally lost touch with the hockey world, and had no idea what he was doing anymore. Unless Ras decides to light a giant fire under his ass, and spends a whole offseason or two just focusing on being that 9th overall guy, it won't happen.
Auston Matthews probably won't catch Ovechkin, because "Russian Machine Never Breaks." Ovi's literally going to break Gretzki's record unless he goes through total physical breakdown of his body. Matthews staying healthy the rest of his career? Sure maybe, and I'd be ALL for it, especially because I want to see all those records start getting beat.
I agree 100% about Vegas, but I still wouldn't count them out yet. The thing I feel about them, is that when they did the expansion draft, a lot of their players were 2nd stringers. Marc Andre Fleury was the centerpiece that took that team so far, around a bunch of guys playing with chips on their shoulders, because they were great hockey players, who got a much better deal out of getting drafted. They were scraping for a roster spot, and would have been really good on their loaded teams if they had been able to get more ice time. A lot of them were 'the guy that would have been protected if their team had one more protect'.
Oh, and last – Montreal imploded this year. I can't personally feel like they 'need to rebuild' yet. Like yeah they're outside the playoffs, but didn't they spend like half this season with like half their roster out? Them, and Vegas had some really big and important players out of their lineups for a long time.
I guess I'll pop in a question too, and hope this one also gets traction in the threads: Do you think the NHL should go back to the conference playoff format? Do you see any Division rivalries that have developed and actually made the game more fun and interesting to watch? Last, do you think the current format or the conference format made for better playoffs?
My opinion is straight up "Fuck Division playoffs". The All-Star game is COMPLETELY not fun, in division format. I can also foresee continued situations where teams with less points than a team in another division sitting on the outside looking in.
Jets should try to sign Bergeron
I'd trade Wheeler but his salary is an overpay. The Jets need a quality coach before they trade Scheifele. They need another larger D like Dillon. Connor Hellebuyck is overplayed by about 10 games. Maurice was showing issues in his coaching long before he left. Maybe Chevy (GM) is the problem for not seeing this and not finding a suitable replacement when he quit.
Winnipeg would be a cup contender if they had a coach like Sutter. I think the talent is there. They’re just buying into any kind of system, especially defensively.

as a Lifetime fan of Jets since i started watching in 1989, yes it is past Scheifs time, his heart is not on the Ice the same way it was in the teams wcf showing against VGK. He seems distracted, always cheating as if he has the same 6 defensive standouts as in that year and just too much half hearted efforts on the ice in last 2 seasons, let alone the selfish act he pulled against the Montreal Canadiens in teams last playoffs. Need a scoring prospect and package heinola for that #1 defense men we desperately need.

If Jets move Schiefle itll need to be a #1 defenceman preferably RH, or a 2023 and 2024 1sts and A tier prospect minimum. Schief has crazy value with that contract anything else isnt worth it.

I disagree, I think it’s wrong to try and lose games to get a better match up. People are still paying money to come see those games. And it’s just unsportsmanlike. I understand if a team wants to rest their players for playoffs, but don’t explicitly tell them to go out there and lose. Just play to win and let things play out how they play out.
