No mention of Mercer and Holtz possibly making the team…no research done before talking about a team on a hockey podcast is crazy…8 guys last year played their first season in the NHL… Zacha is finally growing to the expectations from when he was drafted has 7 years of experience at 24yo…Hischier is growing into a great two way forward very good in his zone…Ty Smith led the Dmen in scoring on the Devils his first year despite missing 8 games… Sharangovichin was on pace for 47 points in 82 games and Kuokkanen 40 points in their first season in the league…Even if Blackwood doesn't get vaxxed I believe Wedgewood and Bernier can step up in the Canadian games…do some research before taking about teams

As an SDP fan, a Leafs fan first and a Devils fan second, I know very well from listening to you guys that you know absolutely nothing about the Devils. But I won't hold it against you haha. The Devils team are young but definitely ready to step up and take a step forward and pieces were added to make that happen. They actually looked like they were taking a small step last year before they got shut down because of covid (something you guys make allowances for with the Stars and Canucks but always ignore with the Devils, just saying). Sharangovich is going to be a star, Hughes is due to have a breakout. They are a very fast team, their problem is their PP and PK are god-awful. There's already been some concerning injury issues but if those sort themselves out, they definitely have a shot of making the playoffs.
Pavel Zacha is a very good under the radar player. There are so many players on this team that ppl dont realize are good
If you're going to do a team preview for each team, you should learn how to pronounce the players names.
Adam is right. New York is a part of the "If your not vaxxed you can't play" list. It a whole thing with the NBA right now.
As someone who has watched every preview so far. You missed this one by a mile and it really sucks. You talked about nothing for 9 minutes because all you did was read cap friendly . I would’ve rather you say sorry guys we just don’t know enough yet about them
Great podcast, but this preview really proves to me that they should pay more attention to markets outside the Leafs division.
I will admit I am biased here as Devils fan, but it is very frustrating and disappointing to see people who I respect like Steve, Adam, and Jesse do season previews for teams that they clearly did not do enough research about prior to filming. If this is the amount of effort they want to put into your videos, that's fine. That is your decision. But just know, from your viewers and supporters, it comes off as very ignorant and lazy.
1) It's pronounced "Share-an-go-vich." If you watched ONE highlight of his, you would know this.
2) Do you guys REALLY believe Hamilton, Graves, and Tatar are just the next Simmonds/Subban? I think any reasonable person would know that's clearly nonsense. Those three players alone are light years better than Simmonds and Subban were when we signed them.
3) We aren't "too young" anymore. Two years ago, yes, but not anymore. Let me go down the list… Zacha (24, 5 seasons), Hischier (22, 4 seasons), Hughes (20, 2 years), Bratt (23, 4 years), Wood (26, 5 seasons), Severson (27, 7 seasons). A lot of our core guys have years of experience already, and for a league like the NHL that is getting younger every year, I can't see age as a valid point anymore.
4) Ilya Kovalchuk's $250k recapture penalty has been with us since he left. It's nothing new, and will never become an issue. Move along. Also, retaining on Butcher's contract is a non-issue as well. He is a slow, one-dimensional defenseman who couldn't find a consistent place in our lineup. With our other moves like Graves, Siegenthaler, and Hamilton (plus the impact Smith made), he was the odd man out and his contract needed to be moved. It's not a "wild one." He wasn't good, but knowing SDPN, their thoughts off Butcher probably are from his rookie season and not the following years where he really didn't do anything notable.
5) "Player's who make that much, don't often play on 4 teams before they're 30." Let's revisit his part. A) Boston couldn't afford his 2nd contract, 2) Calgary failed to meet expectations and Hamilton became the scapegoat for their problems even though he played great with Giordano, 3) Carolina didn't offer him the money he deserved, so he left for free agency. I don't understand how you can imply there is something wrong with Dougie when all the team changes in his career have been upper management mistakes.
Wow..and to say was I looking forward to this..saying you think they'll be last is fine..that's your opinion but the fact it seems like you did no research on anything and talked about will butchers retain and kovalchuks 250 was just dumb..but I guess that had to shorten this one up so they could talk about the leafs preview for an hour

Not a devils fan but I think their forwards are severely underrated. Guys like Bratt, Kuokkanen, Sharangovich and Wood would be talked about more if they played in a bigger market
This may be the absolute worst review I have ever heard. You guys have absolutely zero knowledge of any team outside of your beloved Canadian teams lol. First, if you are going to review a team atleast take 2 minutes to actually learn the pronunciation of one of their top young players (SHARE-AN-GO-VICH). Secondly, if you are going to make bold claims about how a players personal health choices may affect the team atleast KNOW THE LEAGUE RULES. If Blackwood doesn't get the shot he can't travel to Canada, there is absolutely zero effect on his play for ANY team within the states so your claim on how big of an issue it is because he couldn't play in NY is ridiculous. You said their three centers are Hughes, Hischier, and Zacha so you obviously didn't watch any of the film from last yr or the preseason to see Zacha was moved to the wing on Hischiers line where he excelled and the teams 3rd line center is most likely rookie Dawson Mercer who just showed out all preseason and showed great chemistry with Tatar. Comparing an aging PK Subban to an in his prime Hamilton was quite possibly the worst take of many in this entire review since he is widely regarded as a top 10 defenseman in the league. The comparison of Tatar to Simmonds is so bad it isn't even worth mentioning. Are they a lock for the post season, no but they will be competitive and will definitely not finish last barring injuries. You made it sound like the Kovalchuck recapture penalty and retaining of some of Butchers contracts were a huge deal, when NJ the highest cap space this off season. You guys have have zero credibility outside of Canada and should probably stick to reviewing your own teams and leave the rest to guys that actually do the work and research them.

I understand you guys didn't watch a lot (or any realistically with no games outside the division) of Devils hockey last year but Sharangovich has a nasty shot/release and scored at a 25 goal pace. He's also a big guy that uses his size really effectively to outmuscle and hold off opponents in order to make space to use his shot, and he gets to have Jack Hughes feed him the puck. I'm very excited for you and fans outside the metro to see just how skilled our young forwards are this year.
Being a devils fan, this was hard to watch. These guys cover the Leafs. I know they keep an eye of the rest of the league but comparing the devil's to two or three years ago is silly. Luke Hughes, Ryan graves, Damon Severson, pk Subban, dougiie Hamilton etc. Is a solid D line up. And yes, they're offense is young. It's called a rebuild. Their one two punch in net is great, and if Jack can take the next step and Nico can stay healthy, this team is.muchh better than they were, even when they made the playoffs with Hall.
I personally love the way this team has rebuilt. Still work to do but they are well on there way
Dont forget they didnt have Nico all year and half team had Covid Hughes is potential 60 point guy and adding another 2 young dynamos like last year in mercer and Holtz
As a devils fan I’m cautiously optimistic about this season. The only thing I disagree with is the assertion that Dougie Hamilton will be bad. To compare Subban to Hamilton is kinda stupid imo. Like Subban had a bad last year in Nashville and then had a worse year in nj. Hamilton is coming to NJ off of arguably the best season of his career and is in his prime. My hopeful prediction for them is 6th in the division and realistically 7th. They’re not making the playoffs though.

I think a lot of people are underestimating this team. I don't think they're a playoff team but I have them finishing 6th in the division, ahead of CBJ and Washington

This is the worst take I have ever seen. Thought it couldn't get worse than the Hockey News. Comparing Tatar and Hamilton to Subban and Simmonds is absolutely ridiculous. The Devils are going to be in the mix this year, and this is borderline offensive due to the comparisons, your lack of being able to pronounce names, and your overall lack of attention to detail is embarrassing. Do your research or stick to Canada.
