1. You're right Shannon, the Canucks have had a nice bounce with Boudreau but their schedule has been favourable. This next month is a big one that proves that theteam really has improved or whether they have a lot more work to do

  2. Been a fan for awhile, but I did just want to say that I still find it hilarious that a guy in his basement with a whiteboard consistently gives more interesting analysis than the vast majority of "professional" analysts. If we ever bump into each other at a Canucks game then the overpriced beer is on me.

  3. People like power rankings every week that's fine I love watching great hockey and not a trap system that just hangs back, it's fun again and if they make the playoffs great and if not please keep being fun to watch.

  4. Ever heard of the college basketball ranking system, RPI!? It takes wins and losses and ranks them versus good versus bad teams – hockey needs an RPI

  5. Pettersson was a winger and green made him a center. To much talk about defence has made his offensiv skills to suffer. Maybe petey should move out on a rightwing. If they trade Pettersson that would be a huge mistake.

  6. I'm more than a little nervous about these upcoming games, but so excited to see them play with passion, energy and the will to win!

  7. Whatup HOCKEY GUY🥳🤙 I love your channel, you reminded me of my stats coach I had in high school so props to that. Canucks are my team sir ( and yours ironically!) and you are right on the money with it comes to Canucks draft picks and Stanly Cup playoffs. On the stars, I hope Pete plays more instinctively and doesn’t let anything get in his head. He seems like he carries weight of expectation of himself maybe, and he is hot shit. So when isn’t good or a coach is hard on him, he seems to be a player that doesn’t handle that well at all. That’s what happened to him with that last coach a little when he wasn’t being played. Plus the pressure from his team, he’s probably wanting to show his fire! He knows he’s got it but the NHL is TOUGH. I do like how he follows through some hits 😆 probably taking out his past frustration. But Im like how garland and miller and Hovart are doing work! 💪Let’s GOOOO🎉 Canucks! 🙌

  8. Every year a storyline develops I end up cheering for a team in addition to my ducks. It’s the Canucks this year. The turn around is amazing.

  9. Vancouver maybe will win five out of the next 11 if they're lucky. Aside from Ottawa, Chicago and Winnipeg this is pretty tough next 11 games.

  10. Yep, as fun as the Canucks have been, I was annoyed, because this team would not normally be good enough to do anything in the playoffs, but the West is weak as f this year, so ya, they could definitely get to the damned finals because why not, there is no consistently good team in the West right now.

  11. It's absolutely mindboggling if you look how the team plays and behaves between Green and Boudreau coaching. Philly must be kicking themselves for not nabbing Bruce when he was available.

  12. SHane Wright will never be a Canuck even if they are the worst team in the league because the draft lottery will somehow screw them.

They already have Boeser, Pettersson, Hughes and Demko. That's a good core right there.

  13. If the Nucks kept losing we would have missed all the good picks because we were never going to be as bad as Ottawa and Phoenix etc. We were never getting Shane Wright. And the result of a losing season would of been half are young talent wanting out. Let's just pray our later picks in the next few years can make the team quick and have a impact. Otherwise just blow it up at the end of the season even if we make the playoffs.

  14. For the Canucks it looks like the January games will be the big measuring stick for them. 9 of the 11 games they play are top playoff teams. If they get through this month with a good record against these teams they should be a good candidate for a playoff team. We shall see. As Shannon says; "cautiously optimistic".

  15. Interesting to note, even including Green's time, this season the Canucks are in the top 5 in 5v5 goals allowed (they were 4th a couple games ago but havent checked since). The league bottom penalty kill was a huge part of them losing games or being just short in so many games.

  16. The Blues are boring AF, that's why I call them the St. Louis Snooze and that's probably why they're not a big draw when they come to our rink.

  17. I understand you being cautious about the Canucks making the playoffs, but in regards to one of your last videos, it's the team not in position right now that's most likely to qualify this year. Just wait 'till Pettersson wakes up, they're going to rule the West.

  18. May I recommend a new stat to track next year, Powerplay goals or Penalty kill stats- within the time of the penalty or PP and within 1 minute post.

to see if possession stats play a role post penalty

  19. I could see Boeser getting traded for a proven right defensemen

  20. Keeping in mind that it's the GM's job to build a team that will win and it's the coach's job to get the team to play to their highest possible potential, since Benning and Green's departure I've held that there are four possible outcomes to the season. Each one with their own implications.

    1) The Canucks record throughout the rest of the season improves dramatically and they battle their way into a playoff spot or into contention for a playoff spot. This would be a vindication for Benning of sorts in that he did put together a team that can win. On the other hand it's condemnation of Green in that he couldn't get them to play their best hockey. Essentially saying that Benning's mistake was extending Green's contract.
    2) The Canucks stay the same finishing with something like 25-26 wins on the season. This would do the opposite of 1) in that it would exonerate Green and indict Benning. Essentially stating that Green had the Canucks playing to their best ability, and that it was Benning that didn't give him players good enough to win.
    3) The Canucks improve but marginally, finishing with ~35 wins on the season. This would condemn both Benning and Green in that Benning didn't assemble a team good enough to win, but also that Green wasn't coaching them to their best ability.
    4) The Canucks decline, finishing with <25 wins on the season. This would only state that Travis Green is a better coach for this team than Bruce Boudreau.

After 9 games I'm inclined to say the answer's either 1 or 3.

  21. Great analysis. I’m optimistic, but realistic too. This month will likely be a rollercoaster.

  22. Shannon’s favourite teams are Vancouver, Boston, Dallas. Ik Dallas is his third favourite, is Vancouver number 1?

  23. Was at the Columbus game. That's what did it for me. After going down 3-0, the Canucks didn't let the Jackets touch the puck. If they play the way they played in that game, during the comeback, not many teams beat them. The only criticism is there's no way Green and Benning should have started the year with the Canucks. They dug themselves such a big hole at the beginning of the year that, even with 17 points out of a possible 18, they are still 7th in the Pacific.

  24. The Simple Minds goal song is euphoric if you're at the game. There's something about that song in a cool, icy environment that works. I can't put my finger on why exactly but I love it.

  25. 1st time I ever disagreed with you. WOW! Simple Minds is an excellent song for goals! I get "gospel choir hyped"! Go Nucks!

  26. Lol we can't keep on giving the "oh he'll get going" excuse, everyone else started playing alot better right when we got a new coach and pettersson is still sluggish. That's what his excuse was at the beginning of the year and now it's still being said. Pettersson just looks weak and slow
