  1. Nashville is putting too much expectations on themselves ever since the got to the finals. the team is 4 points out of playoffs, laviolette has made playoffs every year, can't wait to see where the team is at the end of the year? seem like an idiotic move to me

  2. Should fired him last year after the loss to the stars. main problem has been coaching look at their special teams it has failed them for 2 years now and is the main reason they are where they are

  3. This is probably a last-ditch effort from the GM to try and keep his job. The goaltending is hurting them if you compare Nashville and St. Louis you can see that the Preds have more goals and more points from the players than St. Louis; but, they have far inferior goaltending. Binnington 91.6% save Allen 92.4% save whereas Rinne 89.6% save Saros 89.2% save percentage.

  4. Preds fans have been calling for his firing since the playoffs loss to Dallas last postseason. Still surprised they actually did it in season though.

  5. They obviously haven't been following the Preds this season and last if they're surprised by this at all. This has been written on the walls since the losing streak in November. The team has been the definition of inconsistency. The team defense is atrocious, and they fall apart the second they face the slightest adversity. I can't even count the number of games where the Preds score first, then as soon as the other team ties it, the team collapses and allows 2-4 goals in a 2-6 minute span. Preds either play like the best team in hockey, or like they're gunning for the draft lottery. There hasn't been any in between, and it's been the latter more often than not of late. As a Preds fan, I'm just glad Poile pulled the trigger while the season can still be saved instead of waiting until we miss the playoffs this year and maybe even next before making a move.

  6. I think their is more to this story and we will hear about soon enough. Why else would Poile cut ties mid season and only 4 points back…

  7. I don’t understand why they fired him tho he was doing a great job, all teams in pro sports hit bad bumps in the road and usually recover. 4 game losing skid is nothing compared to other skids like Toronto’s 6 game losing streak. It’s a full team effort to do well and Nashville has the talent so they should be fighting with Winnipeg for the top 4-5 in the central division.

  8. Moral of the story: If your name has "Peter" in it, be it first or last, do not take a job as an NHL coach.

  9. NHL GM’s muse spend all day manipulating and mind F’ing the owner, because they always get coaches fired for their terrible personnel moves.

  10. Sid tries way to hard to act shocked at things that aren't the least bit shocking.

  11. The Preds have been a mediocre team at best for the last calendar year. It's the most talented/expensive group that's ever existed in the city. Bottom line is, they don't look good and I'm not convinced that they make the playoffs if Lavi remains. One of the things that no one seems to be talking about as a reason for our struggles is our defense. It has offensive firepower, yes but some of the terrible numbers that our goalies are sitting with can 100% be attributed to the lack of structure defensively by the team. The goalies have been left out to dry more often than not and to me, this is partly because of Laviolette's run and gun philosophy.

  12. face it – this is simply called the ST. LOUIS BLUES EFFECT – fire the coach early in the season and WIN the Cup

  13. Lavi is a great coach, he has done a ton for the Preds. I hate to see him go, but i look forward to the future.

  14. ITS NOT THE GOALIES. if you watch this team game in and game out, it's the defense. Way too many giveaways in the d zone and too much emphasis on the d men scoring leading to too many odd man rushes.

  15. Matt Duchene is a coach killer, I said that as soon as Nashville signed him

  16. rinne and saros has played very bad. their goal tending cost us a great coach. hynes r u kidding. u guys r talking about this expectations. lavy CREATED these expectations. we were nothing until lavy came here. give him the end of the year. the goal tending is bad.

  17. Josi leading the team in points is an issue. I get what you're saying because it "should" be a forward therefore they're struggling to score. However john Carlson leads the capitals in scoring, theyre not struggling.

  18. If you watch the Predators night in and night out, it becomes much more obvious that this decision had to be made and made now. Poile did the right thing. I am not sure about the Hynes hire but I guess we will find out.

  19. The Preds defense has been horrendous in front of Rinne and Saros this season. If you watch them play, and not just look at the numbers, you will see how often they are hung out to dry.

  20. It’s not laviolettes fault. It’s Matt Duchene’s fault. Every where he goes, his toxic attitude and selfishness always corrupts a team that they crumble. Here is proof, he goes to Ottawa the year after Ottawa goes to the cup final, with in a year, Ottawa drops off the map and the while Uber thing with him bashing his coaches. Another proof, Avs struggled while he was there, the minute they trade him away, that same year, they make a turnaround. And now same thing with Nashville, this was a well oiled machine for years, winning all the time, within a few months, they look like the Ottawa team that started losing when Duchene arrived in town. Last year, the minute he arrived in Columbus, the blue jackets started losing almost immediately and almost missed the playoffs. This guy is toxic to any team.

  21. Usually when Nashville fires their coach the coach goes on to win the Cup.
Laviolette could be good in San Jose.
But San Jose is running out of gas.

  22. GMs, the point isn’t to fire your coach and win the Cup in the same season. It only works if you’ve got a Craig Berube to replace him with.

  23. It seems like 3 years is the max years for Laviolette. After that he loses the team. This was said about him when he was signed to Nashville and it happened once again.
