  1. People of Long Island, I thank you for being here today. Today the fiftieth season of New York Islanders hockey lays before us. Today is a fresh sheet, a new beginning, wherein every NHL fanbase anxiously awaits the sounds of skates cutting through fresh ice, pucks ringing off the posts and thumping against the boards, crushing body checks, and thundering slapshots. Today, millions of NHL fans look to the future with a glimmer of hope, for their veterans taking one last ride, for their prospects with an eye on the future, and to the big prize at the end: Lord Stanley's Cup.

Rarely for us Islanders fans has that glimmer ever been as bright as it is now. We've been through hell and back awaiting a season like this one to come around; the Fisherman years, Millbury trading away prospects that would go on to become some of the greatest talents this sport has ever seen, bottoming out in '09, an empty Coliseum, and talks of the team moving to Quebec.

But this is a different Islanders team. This is not the team of seasons past, a team with no playoff hopes, or maybe a first round exit. This is not a team on the cusp of relocation to Kansas City. This is a team with a $1.5 billion, state of the art venue. This is a team with ambition. This is a team with hope. This is a team that is contending to win the Stanley Cup.

    ISLANDERS. HURRICANES.

  3. Long time, Old School Islander fan here…….following my Islanders since 1977………I was the odd man out growing up. Surrounded by NY Ranger fans who had no problem taking their frustrations out on this 13 year old kid. But I stood my ground. Swallowed my Pride. Took my lumps…….it made me stronger in my faith and passion for the Islanders. Lived through the strong years and the weak years…….so here we are, standing before a Team that was one Goal short of the finals, and a guarantee for the Cup. It’s now or never ,fellas……Let’s Goooooooooooooooo!
