He looked good in the playoffs. I liked Heinen but I'd take Kappy over him. Gave up a first round pick for him…kinda have to keep him. Really surprised that Sullivan never puts him on the pk.. people from Toronto had really good things to say about his abilities there. Kids got talent…

I’d rather give Heinen the 3 million over Kapanen
Not since the days of Alexsey Morosov have I been so frustrated by a Penguin not fulfilling his potential. So I do not like this contract at all, not at that price or for two years. I would love Kap to prove me wrong and shut me up, he certainly has the talent to score 30.
He's just such a confounding (and frustrating) player. He looked good in '20-'21. But last season, I'm not convinced his numbers would've been any better if the other team had to defend a soccer goal.
Giving up 2 1sts for Zucker and Kapanen was just horrific. If Kapanen had been aquired for a 4th round pick he'd be gone by now…

With resigning of Rakell, Kap I think will take on a bottom 6 role and only fill in the top 6 with injury. This could end up paying off since there is less pressure in that role and he'll face lesser competition.
I stick with the narrative of Penguins in the East Finals and possibly the Stanley Cup if not for the Goalie. I said it all year, and I’ll say it again. Pittsburgh was Top5 team in the NHL. A CONTENDER 🏆
Back to back horrific off-season's. I hope people realize that your next shot at competing will be around 2031; and only if they get lucky and make much better decisions.
Cant help comparing Kappy to Hagelin altho I htink Kap is the much better player who hasnt peaked. I think Hagelin was also in the 3 mil range as a Penguin. he may be a player who needs to have a home on whatever line and needs some skaters who can keep up with him..Instead of constantly moving him around on different lines. Playing w. malkin is not the easiest line to play on..ihe's solid on d, makes plays, is a creator/playmaker..worth keeping
I get what you're saying dk, we're not getting older, but we are an old team. is that a good thing or a bad thing? well that depends. but all of our stars except guentzel and if you wanna call rakell a star him too, are above 30, and with acquiring Petry that's just another old guy playing top4/top6 minutes

As a condition of his new contract Kapanen should have been required to regularly see a sports psychologist because of his confidence and esteem issues.
Did we learn nothing from the retirement team Detroit….look at where they are now ….no return on malkin Crosby or Letang…when they are mediocre we will have nothing…with nothing to build on….no 1st round picks for 4 years in a row anytime soon
I think Mario is pulling a Jerry Jones and dictating the moves keeping this team together. Not happy with any of the offseason moves. They didn't get younger or better. Just kept the same group together that keeps finding more embarrassing ways to flame out of the playoffs.
I'm absolutely pissed with Pittsburgh's moves this offseason. I don't understand why they're doing this to themselves.
I thought that they signed him at 3.2 for two years! I just now realized that they signed him for 6.4 million for two years. Woah. Unbelievable.
This is a big mistake in my opinion. I just think that they can do way better somehow with that kind of money.
Disagree on 30 goals being the needed value for 3.2M – in think 20 – 25 gets it done from a value standpoint.
