  1. Even with Zadina falling that draft I can't belive Detroit didn't take the hometown Hughes. Imagine Hughes and Seider paired up rn.

  2. Great video, but it is a joke looking back comparing Zadina to Pasternak. Zadina is low line 3 skater for Detroit because his inability to score. Maybe he can turn it around but he has definitely underdelivered so far.

  3. I think Blash got into his head about defense at the expense of offense, and then he got into his own head about offense once he didn't break out. He's been "my boy" and I'm still expecting him to break out, he's got the offensive skill to do it. Hopefully Lalonde unlocks him. Worst case scenario, we should re-sign him and move to 3rd line as good depth

  4. I think Zadina was just simply overrated in his draft year and other teams noticed. My first sign of worry was the prospect tournament that’s held in traverse city every year. I know that these kids are just thrown together and there is no real chemistry, but Zadina should have looked at step above the other players, and he was sort of invisible. Then Zadina goes to the AHL and has decent seasons but never blew the doors off. This was a guy that was projected as an elite goal scoring winger, so if you’re not lighting up the AHL, there’s a problem. When it’s all said and done, I think Zadina is going to be a decent third line two way guy or maybe he moves on and has a resurgence like Nichushkin when there’s no longer pressure to be “the guy”. My comment is already pretty long, but I do believe Blashill did not handle him very well either.

  5. The scouting report on this Zadina guy sounds really good. The Red Wings should draft him…

  6. What happened is Blashill never paired him with offensively gifted line mates long enough to build chemistry. The wings have done it to multiple offensively gifted prospects (jurco, AA, etc)where they force the “process” and “playing the right way” to a point where the player is either disheartened or relegated to 9 minutes on the 4th line with borderline NHL’ers where they’re unable to produce enough to move up in the lineup. Zadina has shown hustle and playmaking instincts consistently, but he needs consistent, complimentary line mates to shine. We saw his chemistry with Vrana at the end of the season. He can’t carry a line on his own but that’s not the expectation. He really hasn’t been set up for success up to this point.

  7. who’s comparing zadina to Pasternak lol Pasternak went from the draft stage to the lineup the same year he is that good ! there wasn’t any let’s draft this guy throw him in the minors for 2 yrs see if he developes ! comparing him to anyone would be the kid Lucas Raymond who was ready to go right off the bat like Pasternak was 🤷‍♂️🤔👍

  8. Give Zadina a whole season with Varana and see his numbers shoot up, Fabbri is not a good partner for him, plus Zadina had to be defensive to make up for Fabries lack of defence

  9. Zadina is a pure goal scorer. Blash's system of dump and chase where every player is supposed to be a homogeneous part of said system does not favor highly specialized players like Zadina. He isn't a playmaker, doesn't have spectacular hockey sense and has limited ability to self create. That doesn't mean he can't score 40+ goals, I think he can, and similar players do, but he needs the correct environment. Playing more of a puck possession style where he can work himself into high percentage areas and rely on teammates to set him up would do him wonders. Brett Hull became one of the most prolific goal scorers in history doing just that. Blash's offensive system, if you could even call it that, relies on just throwing pucks haphazardly at the net from low percentage areas and relying on dumb luck to score. Not a good environment for a sniper to be in. It makes almost no use of his abilities.

  10. heres to hoping Gru will be the coach that brings the best out of Zadina and even Veleno going into this next season. Hopefully it will give these guys a second chance and a new spark to become the players they were drafted to be.

  11. It's the system that is the difference. If Z was in Boston, he would be producing numbers too. Throw Pasta into Blashill's Wings, he'd be looking to get traded while he still has value.

  12. Surprised how few hockey fans know how to read body language and expressions. You have to look at Zadina's media interviews and observe where he places his eye focus, vocal tone and energy. The man has SERIOUS self-image and confidence issues that make him think of himself as an unmitigated failure at every facet of life. ONLY a sports psychologist can make him confident, hungry and driven enough to improve his performance level and stop shooting into the goalie's breadbasket when he's got a net front chance. You can literally look at interviews of people with self-image problems and see the same eye focus, energy direction and neck/mouth tensions. I know nothing about Zadina's background, but I'd guess his parents were cold, demanding and unkind. There are not many NHL players who are more obvious about their mental state. Robin Lehner has a similar problem, but with his bipolar diagnosis, he realizes his limitations and works hard to overcome them. Zadina doesn't know he has this problem. That's his fatal flaw and why he will never pot 20 goals in his career.

  13. Are you really comparing these two
players to each other? The two teams
    are totally different,Pasternak plays
    with Bergeron and Marchment while
Zadina doesn’t know who his line mates
are from game to game. Let’s wait and
see what happens in 2-3 years when the
Wings become competitive. If Zadina goes
to free agency or gets traded it’ll depend
on who he plays with to determine his
success as a NHLer. Neither Pasternak
or Zadina were ever considered franchise
players they need teammates in order to
    achieve success.

  14. He’s gelled with Vrana, a fellow Czech, and if they play together all year Zadina will score 20

  15. What happened is Zadina has never been strong at one on one battles. He loses most battles. The guy the wings just drafted in rd 1 is probably ahead of Zadina in this aspect of the game–which is one of the most important aspects of the game. In the nhl there isn't much room and you need to be strong on the puck and quick at making decisions. Maybe in time Zadina can become strong on the puck, but he didn't look like he belonged last year (at all). I wouldn't be surprised if he were traded like Mantha–who also was weak on the puck in his last year with Detroit. Vrana is a huge upgrade in his compete level. With Zadina you can tell he tries hard, he just loses most battles due to maybe inexperience at the higher level of competition. More time and he could get there..

The question is what kind of trade value does he realistically have and is it worth giving up on him when he obviously needs to get stronger and does have some talent that can't be coached. I trust Yzerman will make the right call on trading for value or developing him further.

  16. He's still a highly talented kid, 22, on a bad team, Pasternak was on the Bruins… He's not McDavid, he needs to play with good players to succeed. I believe that Yzerman and Lalonde are looking forward to, seeing if he can shine. Or maybe Yzerman has other plans…?
