Good god Buffalo get your captaincy under control.
6 captains on 03-04 season. And also 07-08. wtf 😀
You, didn't do Sabers worst trade, Dave Andreychuk for Grant Fuhr, Andreychuk would go on to have 2 50 goal seasons and average 30, and Fuhr would get hurt and be replaced with the Dominator
I got a friend who would lose his mind over this video. He'd love it and I'm sending this to him now. Gotta share the love.
Housley and Hask are my two favorite Buffalo Sabers players ever.
Toronto born Buffalo Sabres fan here. And this video made my day. So thanks for the history lesson, Sir.
P.S. Favourite Sabres player of All-Time was Don Luce. Favourite goalie was Ryan Miller. Though hands down the 2 best Sabres of All-Time were Gilbert Perreault & Dominik Hasek. IMHO, of course.
Hockey Guy on the Buffalo.
Was the C on the Jersey for see you later??
Pat LaFontaine was a guy that recieved multiple headshots and really dirty ones too. They where not by accident ether and back then if you got knocked out you became a larger target it seems.
I think one of the dumbest things the franchise has done was not resigning Peca. It lead to Hasek demanding his trade to the Redwings.
The 2005-6, 2006-7 are 2 very underrated hockey teams in NHL history. Very weird how a team with so much success could lose it's co-captains (Briere and Drury) to free agency.
Essentially the Sabres have never recovered from that to this day.
Pominvilles numbers are a touched skewed. He has over 1,000 games but was traded for a few years to Minnesota. He should be higher on the list, unless the list is just points for Buffalo
I feel all Buffalo teams somehow have a sad and storied history. Buffalo Braves moving to Califronia. Bills losing 4 straight, and Sabres with the 99 loss and the 05-06 playoff run that should have been theirs. Buffalo needs a winning team. I don’t know many other cities that deserve some sort of winning more
If people want a short history video, may I suggest Vegas and soon Seattle? 😂
As a child I thought the Sabres had the best uniforms in the mid 70s
Anyone notice after talking about malarchuk Shannon started rubbing his neck or is it just me?
Thanks Chicago for giving buffalo a better player for Alex Nylander, and Shannon for a long sabres video.
The run is coming!
Living in T.O. I watched a lot of Sabre hockey growing up (cue the Flight of the Bumblebee music). The “French Connection” line has to be in the top ten ever.Gil Perrault IMHO is the second best player to not win the Cup (I’d put Lindros ahead of him). Schoenfeld one of the greatest that I was lucky enough to see. Jerry Korab and Danny Gare, hadn’t heard those names in a while – pretty amazing players – and the Sabres had many.- so thanks for that.
Buffalo Captains, simplified:
03 – 04: Rotating Captains (monthly, 6 total)
05 – 07: Drury + Briere, Co-Captains
07 – 08: Rotating Captains (monthly, 6 total)
13 – 14: Vanek "Home" Captain, Ott "Away" Captain (until Vanek gets traded 13 games into the season, only wore the C for 7 total)
I remember a game in the mid 80's. The Sabres were trying to tie the winning streak on the road. This night, in St. Louis. There were down 2-1. Brent Peterson wins a face off and they score. The went on to win 3-2 keeping that streak alive.
Please feel free to correct me if needbe. It was a long time ago.
Wait. Didn't Mckegney got traded to the Blues? And he wasn't happy about it and said he'd be back in Buffalo?? Bowman traded him, no?
Malarchuck was the Whaler killer (or was he unbeatable against Quebec)
Madness lol
For someone whose not a fan to understand the history of this franchise like you do it's impressive. Great video!
Shannon… on your previous Sabres history video, I made an lengthy and comprehensive pitch for you to take a moment and research their incredible 2005/06 playoff run, hoping it would get you on board with Buffalo fans in being of the opinion that it was THE iconic moment in our team's history. You replied back to my comment saying you would be putting out revised team history videos this summer, so I was under the impression you took my post into consideration and would be including commentary on that run in this video. I excitedly clicked on the video and… not one word about it. Totally skipped it. Fuck man… that's rough.
the trade of Hasek to Detroit was atrocious! One of their (if not their) worst. Hasek still had many good years in front of him despite his age, while Kozlov played only half a year with the Sabres got injured and was traded the year after (again in a bad trade) to Atlanta. Kozlov had many good years after in Atlanta. Kozlov was traded with the Sabres 2nd for the Thrashers' 2nd and 3rd (Jeff Deslauriers and John Adams. Who?).
the other guy that the Sabres had for Hasek was the pick Jim Slater….who was right away traded also to Atlanta for another no name draft pick
a great trade that the Sabres made and you forgot to mention and that was also a kind of a blockbuster: Zhitnik, Huddy, Stauber and a 5th to Buff for Fuhr, Boucher and Tsygurov to LA.
they just need one playoff run to get them going. I always liked the team but lately, they were so depressing with losing that it is hard to like them…
Thank you for this. I’ve been a Buffalonian since birth (‘85) and I will never trade this team. I am so hopeful for the future.
Damn this is a pretty comprehensive video, well done! Sabres fans are proud no matter how bad the team is, can’t wait to see how crazy this city gets when they make it back in the playoffs
You said "The NHL got 15 Proposals from 10 cities." Who were the 4 cities that did not get a team? I was just born that year, my memory falls me who was rejected for expansion.
To trade Hasek to Detroit: Hasek demanded a trade deal with the leadership, saying that they should not marry anyone good so as not to weaken Detroit and he had a chance to win the Stanely Cup. That's why Buffalo only get Kozlov.
Trading Campbell to San Jose at the deadline in 08 was notable. Losing Briere and Drury in 07 free agency was huge as well.
Captain Captain Captain Captain lol.
Will there be a updated video on Buffalo with the trades and how their season is going so far?
Good old Eric Daze.
The Sabres got Housley and TB by trading Jerry Korab and Rick Martin to the LA Kings for 1st round picks in 82 and 83. They were separate deals, but Martin played like 10 games for the LA Kings with a bad kneed. I heard the story about Martin was when the Kings picked him up from the airport, he was walking with a limp and a cane! Great job George McGuire!
The Kings a few months after trading for Korab, drafted a young defensemen 4th overall, who would become a HOF, Larry Murphy! Most of Murphy's career was made with other teams!!
Are you Scotty Bowmans son ? Landed a Jack Eichel rookie mini relic, and a McD David rook out of a 2015 U.D.Champs box still loving hockey screw that Mcdavid rookie,Jack Eichel is the best player in the NHL
