  1. So the rule isn't that you get to go over the cap by 10% in the off-season, the league actually artificially raises the cap by 10%. It's done this way to allow teams the flexibility to sign players while not having to worry about remaining cap compliant.

  2. No other league throws all their rules in a blender once the playoffs start like the NHL. The game is completely different in every aspect and it is becoming comical.

  3. “How ‘bout you go for a coff” clearly means why don’t you go grab some Tim’s and think about the fact this is going nowhere Gary lmao

  4. Whatever they decide to do to fix this problem they can't do it in the middle of the play-offs anyway. But I do hope it gets resolved.

  5. So you’re saying that every off season the leafs break Marners legs and bring him back for the playoffs.

  6. OMG….lets shut the hell up about a luxury tax system…

  7. Tampa did everything within the rules. This is such BS. If it were the Leafs, you know that all 3 of you would be applauding how "shrewd" Dubas and Pridham were. Who invented "Robidas Island", btw?

  8. Fans of the richest team in the league want to introduce cap relief based on a luxury tax… who'da thunk?

  9. Dallas was in the same situation with Seguin and nobody cares. Kucherov was hurt, had surgery and wasn't cleared FOR PRACTICE by doctors until like a week before the season ended. That is what LTIR is for

  10. The NHL needs to either raise the salary cap or a stich up and close these salary cap loopholes that some teams like to take advantage of (especially TBL) and exploit. Even if the salary cap is raised, the salary cap loopholes must be addressed and eliminated.

  11. This is entertaining but jesus at least understand the basics of the salary cap before putting out opinions on it.

  12. If a team was over the cap they wouldn’t be able to play. They would have to sit guys in order to play a game. Tampa had to only dress 17 skaters a couple times because they were over the cap.

  13. Should it be illegal ? Absolutely it should. I don't care if players are getting paid or not in the playoffs, the team you put on the ice should ALWAYS respect the salary cap. ALWAYS.

  14. If you’re just gonna try to find ways to ignore the cap, just get rid of it, all together and it would leave like 3-6 teams that would be able to sign anyone they wanted because the franchise’s bankroll is deeper than you could ever imagine that would be rangers Leafs Canadiens VGK and the red wings

  15. Make a video what players made after taxes. Its redicilous that state tax is not involved when cap hit is desided

  16. Yes, why is there a rule of no salary cap for playoffs?? Seems unfair and anti-comeptitive

  17. Sounds like Tampa should trade for eichel, give him his surgery, have him ready for playoffs next year with no cap hit.

  18. I would rather not have a luxury tax because one of my favorite parts of hockey is that at any point any team could put a run together. The way it's set up now makes the entire league (instead of a certain number of teams) competitive. With the NBA luxury tax every year they seem to have the same teams that buy super teams and win. It's much easier to have a dynasty in the NBA and I don't watch that in the NHL. The NHL does have a happy medium. Any team can do what Tampa did this year. It just really helped that their best player was injured and they have a roster behind him that was good enough to still be competitive in the regular season.

  19. Florida has a huge advantage with the tax situation, especially since they are not joke teams anymore…

  20. TB is so good so absolutely they would sit him if he isn't needed in reg season. They were making the playoffs. All teams should just use the loophole and be 18 million over the cap.

  21. In 2016, the last this cap rule was voted on, only 2 teams voted against, in order to create full cap compliancy. TBL was one of the two.

  22. It's not the LTIR, it's the income tax advantage plus the LTIR. That roster would have to have $120mil usd cap hit for the players to take home the same amount of money on a Canadian team.

  23. I’m a Tampa bay fan and I don’t entirely understand the situation. I thought all the time you had to be under the salary cap. What’s the point of having a salary cap if you can go over it? And a salary cap is the max money you can spend, correct?

  24. I fking love being a die heart hockey fan living 30 mins north of tampa bay. Go Bolts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. The issue isn't with Tampa. It's ALL the different cases we have of cap manipulation. Orpik being traded to Colorado-bought out-signing back with Washington at a fraction of the price. Pronger being on Arizona's cap to get to the floor while being a League employee. Datsyuk being retired and on the cap to get to the floor. There's tons of examples and a lot of teams do it. Same with the front loaded contracts they had to crack down on. The League needs to fix this loophole because the salary cap is not enforceable under it's current system.

  26. The biggest joke is that the salary cap exists to make it fair, but yet these teams in low state or no state tax 100% have an advantage over Canadian teams or California teams. There’s no way Brayden Point takes 6 mil if he’s playing in Edmonton or Toronto, literally 3 mil take home pay after taxes, no chance he takes that. Or Sergechev at 4.8, 0% that happens in Canada.

  27. The lightning themselves voted against it . They were like ok your gonna allow it were gonna show you what happens .
