I think if the oilers do end up trading Ben bishop it would be a mid season move, it depends on how Stuart skinner does, if he does good, they shouldn’t trade for him cause not only do you keep a young developing goalie in the nhl to improve, you are also saving 4mil in cap which you can use for someone like Patrick Kane
it makes no sense. we would have to replace whoever we traded ben for. it's clearing cap, just to fill it back up. if he's not going to play, and there isn't a big deal coming, there's no reason.
1. It would be useless for Edmonton to do that move. Bishop wouldn’t help them in any way. Injured players still count against the cap no matter what. LTIR doesnt remove the cap hit of the player, it’s simply allow you to exceed the cap.
If you acquire a 5M injured player, you acquire his 5M cap hit at the same time. LTIR allow to you exceed the cap but you dont gain cap space.
You used 5M of cap space when you acquired that 5M player. Now, you can exceed the cap by 5M
5M of cap space vs 5M of LTIR space = 0$.
2. It would be only useful to reduce the cost of a cap dump if Edmonton need to dump a player with a negative value like Foegele (To me, Foegele has a negative value). They would only clear the cap space his 2.75M, they wouldn’t gain anything other than his own cap hit.
3. In the off-season, every team can exceed the cap by 10%. If a team need to exceed 90.75M, they can place players on off-season LTI.
On Day 1, teams doesn’t have to be under 82.5M to use LTI. They can place players on LTI on the last day of training camp to be cap compliant.
4. You’re referring to CapFriendly. CapFriendly only show a projection of the cap situation on day 1, they doesn’t the actual off-season cap situation. Be aware of that
Still need fwds, if rolled what we have it is decent I would prefer responsible dfd makes very difficult too enter our zone or at least make skilled players pay for xing our blue line.
Foegle needs to go. He’s a 4th liner that’s being overplayed and we need the cap space. If Holland can get rid of him for like a second round pick I’m happy
Funny how Kenny the Genius traded away a promising young D man Bear for Foegle who is terrible and overpaid. 1 year later, the oilers are desperate to get rid of Foegle. Canes fleeced the Oilers big time. Simply put, the Oilers wouldn’t be in cap ceiling if they just didn’t make that bonehead trade for Foegle last year
It’s too bad that the Oilers are still paying for all of Chias cap mistakes! It would be great to see the OILERS with all of their money going and filling all the right positions on their roster. The Oilers have to figure out the salary cap because it looks like they’re gonna be in an arms race with the avalanche for quite a while.
Foegele perhaps, but not Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi is still worth at least a 2nd rd pick if not better, so why give him away for an extra couple hundred grand in cap space? Even though he's not lived up to the hype of a #4 overall pick, he's still 6'4" tall, highly skilled, and has upside. 14-22-36 in 65 games is still respectable considering he played some of that coming off injuries and illness. If the Oilers play him on the first line and he lights it up like he did at the start of last season, he may be able to fetch a 1st or a better player in trade in-season.

are we doing a favour for the sabres?
Why do we need bishop I thought Campbell and skinner will be fine or do we need a 3rd goalie in case someone gets injured?

I like the idea of trading pulijarvi and a couple of other places to new jersey for Bernier
We don't need bishop

Interesting scenarios. Not a fan of taking on LTIR as said in other comments . Hopefully a better cap solution is found. Keep the vids rolling.
That’s a no for me
This means the oilers r worried about skinner maybe.

Aquiring Biship doesn't add cap. But if you send cap the other way, that could clear space.
Huh ?
As Per Garfield, 😜
This guy is retired. He was a cap dump to the sabres. What are we talking about?

We dont need another injury riddled goalie when the time would be better spent on giving Skinner time in the NHL to grow.

Why the hell would we need Bishop
Why would they trade for Bishop they have Campbell and Bishop announced he’s retired
