Trading the #2 pick would normally be insane, but Devils want to move up the food chain sooner than later, so see the sense in it , but better be a damn good player. John Gibson fits the bill. Who knows if Bernier returns at all, and Blackwood has taken couple of steps in reverse. D core needs some serious repair as well, so think Devils will be aggressive. Ownership likely getting restless and tired of seeing no playoff game revenues on the profit and loss statement.
The Wild will know sooner than later if Fiala wants to stay. With the salary cap crunch, it’s either Dumba or Fiala that are marked. Guerin is about winning so everyone is on the block to some extend other then Kaprisov / Ek / Boldy and maybe a few others. Picking up a number 2 pick and plopping a high end prospect into the pipeline to develop with Wallstedt, Rossi, Firstov etc. maybe a legit route. Time will tell but Fiala is a great player just coming into his own.

No way you trade 2OA for a goalie or even Fiala if you're NJ. That would be asinine. It's not like this team is 1-2 pieces away from a Cup
What about Ottawa trading a package on draft day.Connor Brown,Scott Sabourin and Brannstrom for a high pick say Simon Nemec.Then Ottawa moves there pick to a team that wants to dump cap,say the Rangers or the Wild. Kevin Fiala or Ryan Strome would be the targets

AS a DEVILS FAN – YAROSLAV ASKAROV… KEVIN BAHL AND NIKITA OKHOTYUIK WILL GRADUATE NEXT YEAR TO THE NHL AND THEY ARE GREAT RPOSPECTS. The Devils have so much talent…Saros is 26 yrs old and signed for four years to Nashville I am going after ASKAROV.

If the Sens want success this coming year and forward I really think they need to:
1) Trade the #7 pick (include it in a package if need be) for a top 6 scoring winger (not a power forward). But don’t “Bobby Ryan” the trade by bringing a player in a player that stats were a result of the high end talent around them. Bring in a pure goal scorer.
2. Trade Zaitsev. Send him to the Coyotes with 2nd and 3rd round picks if you need to. Coyotes need players to fill the roster and hit the cap floor, we need Zaitsev gone.
3. Buy out Colin White. Financially more advantageous to do this now than wait (less penalty with his age, etc).
4. Make a decision on Brannstrom. Keep him and play him or trade him.
5. Trade Del Zotto.
6. Fire Capuano. Look at shots against over the last few years. It’s not just personnel issue on the ice.
7. Fire DJ smith. His style, philosophy and tendency to favour players like Zaitsev, etc is outdated and he has taken this team as far as he can. He has taught them how to play hard and how to gel as a team. Thank him for that and send him on his way.
8. For the love of god, do everything you can to bring in Joel Quenneville. Pay the man, he is worth it. If he won’t come, look at a coach like Trotz
Interesting speculation–really want to see the Senators do well this offseason, good young team that I feel will make some foward strides next season., and hoping Tim Stutzle has a breakout season like Robert Thomas/Jordan Kyrou did for the Blues this past season.
Hang on a sec. Mr Fiala signs a 1 year 5.2 mil contract and scores 85 in 82. Ottawa is carrying 2 contracts over 8 mil: Tkachuk and Chabot and the need to re-sign Norris, etc, right, then why sign a large contract like Fiala's if you as a fan can't buy your season tickets early? This is part of Dorion's dilemma, right, just cause you sign the player in Stone, Karlson, Pageau, to big dollar contract, doesn't mean they win. That's a tough division. But you as a fan, have to guarantee a sell out to afford that Fiala contract or end up like Arizona??
There are very few goalies u trade a #2 pick for straight up. Gibson is jusssst below that tier. He is a great player but the position is way to unpredictable to mortgage a 2 pick straight up. Now If the devils and ducks, who have been historical trading partners, wanted to do a bigger deal, I could see it.
