Vegas signing Cassidy leads me to believe that Trotz told them he wasn’t going there, and Vegas didn’t want to look like the odd man out and got ahead of the Trotz decision being announced by signing Cassidy.
I didn’t think that Vegas was a true front runner given its history of firing coaches as fast as they hire them (and for trading players and picks without blinking an eye). The Jets have and continue to take a much different approach and is very loyal to its staff. This is often seen as a weakness or misguided approach, but it might just pay off in this instance if they land Trotz both for the coaching job but also provide him a taxiway to management which is reportedly what he’s looking for long term.
I’m optimistic, and if Trotz chooses Winnipeg I’ll make a run to the beer store and pick up some 1919 Pale Ale from the Little Brown Jug!
There is only one coach for this team and it is not Montgomery or Tocchet.
