They gamble in defensive situations, and during the regular season, it is exciting and leads to goals when it works. But in the playoffs where a goal means a lot, you can't gamble and get burned because that one stupid high risk move, can cost you the game. That is their problem. They need some vets with winning playoff experience to show them, this is the style you need to play to advance.
Maple leafs fans are the most hilarious delusional bunch of people. Last time the leafs won the cup their were 6 teams in the league and they have had 2 mvps since the very beginning of nhl.

So far no other team has pushed Tampa as hard as the leafs did. A one goal difference in game 7 isn't nothing. Let's see what the canes or Rangers can do

Keefe has failed time and time again to rally the troops when it really counts (he's a player friendly coach who has no control of the team) and Tavares is the biggest waste of 11 mil I've ever witnessed in my 33 yrs of watching hockey (Spezza had to be the voice in the locker room throughout the Tampa series.. what a joke)
All in all… this team will not get where it needs to within the next 2 seasons and Matthews will want out

The leafs need to grow up , this team is like a child playing a mans game. I love leaf fans who say they re “ right there”. They need to get rid of Tavares. Need a power forward and defence. Definately need a goalie or 2. So no they are not right there. Winning a stanley cup is a game of fine tuning and a willing desire to win . Nylander needs to go . Don’t care if he scores 40 goals if he doesn’t want to play the mans game come playoff time.
Bruins needs to clean house and rebuild.
It would actually be super funny though if Toronto came first in the division next season and lost to a WC team in the first round of the playoffs.

The Leafs have a rich history and the Toronto community is respected hockey patriots who have been most loyal to there team. BUT, the organisation have been cheep and arrogant towards there paying supporters and have wasted so many oppertunities to be a serious contender in the NHL. The Mats Sundin years of wasted tallent is still hurting.

If you can't put together a series win when you have 60 goal matthews playing like a beast and marner and nylander having career years then you are incompetent and should be fired. 9 fowards he iced had 1 goal or less in a high scoring series. 6 had 0 goals. And those players who were not scoring were also not doing much of anything else. You can't expect 4 guys to win you a cup by themselves. This team isnt seeing a dime from me while shanahan and dubas and keefe still have jobs.
Honestly I think Toronto needs to blow up the core like I think they need to keep Matthews get rid of Tavares and possibly Marner i think you need to do a reset and you need to do it now have a conversation with Matthews and get him on board with doing a reset because I don’t think this team can do it yes they do have a lot of firepower they are a dangerous team but they are not a dangerous team in the playoffs they just aren’t built properly and I think if they get rid of Tavares and marner they will definitely have the cap space and draft pick to make the team way better then it is now I’m not a leafs fan I don’t like them but it sucks to see them go threw this each year when they can definitely change with a couple big moves and never mind getting out of the first round that shouldn’t be the goal like if they eventually get out of the first round I don’t think they have what it takes to win the cup they just don’t but that’s my opinion maybe I’m wrong you never know for sure with these things
Leafs need leadership starting with Shanahan, Dubas, keefe, tavares, and the rest of these no grit, dispassionate bunch of babies. What a weak team!! Mentally and physically. The laughing stock of the Nhl. Premadonnas!!!

Hockey is a hard sport to win a series in. I think people lose track of that and get overcome by emotions.
After a lifetime of disappointments as a leafs fan, I can confidently say that:
1 – You need role players that excel in the playoffs. Guys that come out of the depths and become a force. ( an Andre Palat for example.) Toronto lost as they had no-one in that mold.
2 – You need a goaltender that you have complete confidence in that can win you a game solo. ( I love Jack, but he is not that guy in the playoffs, nor was Anderson)
3 – A top tier number 1 defenseman that is not a defensive liability. An all round stud. (Reilly is not that. He is half of that. Defensively he is a problem.)
Unfortunately, the worst moves Toronto made was Tavares. It has not panned out an everyone knows it. His contract is an albatross. With no way out. He also knows it.
He would be a fine 7-8m player, but not 11m. It would be some kind of miracle if the leafs could dump that contract.
Everyone dumps on Willy because he doesn't play with that intensity of an Andre Palat for example. But Palat doesn't have the skill set and the role that Willy has. Willy is not the problem.
He has a good contract and his scoring reflects it. Imagine if he was on a line that wasn't Taveres-centric.
As an aside and not Leafs related:
This league needs honest officiating. (It is struggling with this at the moment.) This is the elephant in the room IMHO.
I do think it may be related to big money in sports betting.
And the league aligning itself with sports betting companies in general exacerbates the potential problems involved.
And if you think sports betting is segregated from organized crime, you are grossly misinformed my friend.
In game 6 OT Marner set up Matthews in the blue paint and he missed the net…that goal would have changed everything…Tampa scored right after that…there ya go
Be prepared to not even make the 1st round this year.
leafs just need to have a good balance in net and defense.
