In fairness to the PK, that Vancouver Power Play looked ELITE and in mid season form. Very scary. I’m glad that even though the Kraken PK were sort embarrassed early, they managed to find their footing and kill off two 3rd period penalties to keep the game in reach.
I liked the resolve and adaptability that demonstrated.
The Kraken Kids and their Dad Martin Jones hung in there an showed the Canucks a thing about resilience last night.
I was cackling through the whole segment on “novelty” and it is so true .. “WHO LEFT!?”

The positionless hockey conversation was so worth the wait. I do think that there are attributes unique to the sport of hockey that makes the implementation of these ideas more difficult to implement, like the on the fly substitutions ELA pointed out.
There’s also the issue of generating efficiency through specialization coming at the cost of resiliency in a game where injury is so common. Traditional hockey positions and players with versatile skill sets create useful redundancies, particularly in the playoff context where inter team player movement is not possible to address unexpected changes in team structure or capability.
There are benefits to clarity of baseline purpose in position, allowing players across the entire roster to understand expectations in a speedy game where there isn’t a lot of time to think.
