With the addition of DeBrincat and Giroux I love the forward group. I'm comfortable with the goaltending and the D core could be better than expected without Zaitsev in the top 4. It's tempting to wait and see what we have, and what Thomson or JBD will become, but the Sens also need to show DeBrincat they are serious about winning if they want to resign him. It will be interesting to see what Dorion does

  2. Great episode as always. Huge announcement with Pierre coming on the podcast. His crowning achievement of the summer!

I agree with most that I think Lassie or JBD need to step up. If 1 of them can't fill a 3rd pair roll by the All Star break (at the absolute latest) then we need to really need to be honest with where they stand in the organization.

Glad you guys touched on the Hockey Canada stuff. It's going to be hard to "diffuse" the toxic Junior hockey attitude, teenagers in relatively small towns mostly living away from home and being treated like gods is a terrible mix. The handling of this case has to send a very loud message to all participants in Hockey Canada that acts like this are going to be punished.

  3. If you boys come to the home opener and want to have another fan meetup, I got a patio, ice cold beers and a bbq

  4. If you look at affective pairing d men what you want is a young player like Jake Sanderson and a journeyman vet for a pairing.Example given Chris Tanev and Quinn Hughes were a pairing and were one of the main reasons that Vancouver did so well that year.Jake Sanderson and Kevin Shattenkirk would work,if Kevin is willing to move.Joel Edmundson is another of those kind of players but is a left shot.Shattenkirk and Joel won the cup with Saint Louis

  5. Hot Pierre summer coming to a locked on network near you. That’s so exciting ask Him if his burner can follow me on Twitter 😂

  6. Last year when the Sens were struggling I found their biggest issue and what made me cringe the most was watching them get pinned in their D-zone. They had a lot of trouble getting it out of the defensive zone on the 1st attempt, seemed weak getting it out or losing those 50-50 battles. I was always worried when they were in their end.

  7. If you want a D man but are still hoping that JBD and Lassi will develop after one more year in the AHL, then do you need a long distance top 4 guy or a reasonable band aid for 1 year that is better than Zaitsev? If you go for a one year band aid solution you may have a better chance to get a guy from teams like the coyotes or the kraken who are looking for draft picks like crazy. Maybe someone like Carson Soucy who has one year left on his contract @ 2.75 mil. Was a little rough in the first half of the season but played much better in the 2nd half. He is 6'5 so not a pushover. Not saying he is the answer or that he is even available but just using him as an example if you want to wait the one year for the young bucks instead of going all nuts for a top 4.
And there is a rumour that Dorion has a trade to get rid of zaitsev already set up and he is just waiting to get one more D man to replace him. If he waits too long, (if this trade exists already) does that disappear?

  8. No thanks to PK. Don't forget he also knocked out JG Pageau's front teeth. As well as mark stones hand. Sens fans boo him, still to this day. I'll pass, quickly.

  9. Can Noah Dobson be available? Sure be m'y 1st Choice for a righty …… Don't know waht NY I would want in Return ……

  10. We're not going for the cup this year. Play Lassi and or JBD and see what you have before you spend assets on an over paid player that's going to be potentially blocking them on a multi year contract. Yes it's a lot of pressure to ask either guy to play top 4 minutes but this is hopefully the last year to let them make the mistakes and grow. I didn't mind Hamonic last year with lower ice time, 3rd pair mins, but it definitely showed having him play top 4 pairing minutes last year doesn't work either. So let the young kids battle for it. And if it doesn't work then at least you now know for sure and you make a move at the trade deadline where there are probably more options like Pillzy said. This is all assuming that Zaitsev is gone which is the MOST important thing to take care of.

  11. How about Scott Mayfield from NYI – shutdown Right D with only 1 year to UFA with low salary – new listener, catching up with all your draft videos, fantastic podcast – thank you

  12. How many additional sell outs and ticket sales (not complimentary ticket give aways) have occured since picking up higher priced players? i mean, expecting team to continue picking up high priced talent for a considered CFL HOCKEY squad?

  13. I really believe Lassi is ready he showed very well too me I wasn't in the building but on TV I think he passes the eye test he boxed out well enough and didn't seem too timid like JBD

  14. I hate being a stickler Ross, but JBD just turned 22 a month ago and Lassi turns 22 in Sept. I gotta agree with Pillzy that Hamonic deserves a longer look.

  15. Pillzey, I disagree with waiting until December to see if we can get a top 4 D-man rather than getting one now. The reason I disagree is that teams are more desperate than at the beginning of free agency. When teams know you need a player to fit the team, they often ask for a lot more than they would now.

  16. Don’t buy into guys. We can’t start with this D. Hamonic is bad. Zaitsev is bad. Did you see Travis Yost’s analysis on the Sens D this week on TSN? They are bad and their expected goals against were worse than results.

We were asked to judge Dorion on his starting roster and that’s what I’ll do. He knows we need a top 4 D and it is his job to get it.

And Ross, I don’t buy the whole “JBD should be ready because other guys drafted in the same year are already pros” argument. He’s either ready (he’s not) or he isn’t. The organization needs to know this and plan for it. He shouldn’t be rushed because management hasn’t acted appropriately.

Alright boys. Love the show, love the opinions. You guys are great to listen to whether I agree or not! Keep it up.

  17. Love how all the vids get over 1000 views. Not many channels have (minimum) one third of all subs watching every single video.

  18. Let the young guys play!!! ..Thompson and JBD are ready ..why develop them if you are not going to let them play!

  19. You guys are the only podcast I listen to, love the sens talk

  20. Should it be considered that the alleged victim of this is the only person involved that isn’t cooperating with the investigation?

  21. Would be insane if Ottawa can grab tkatchuck from Calgary, the brothers playing together! Would be awesome.

  22. I wonder about Rasmus Sandin as an option here on the right side… the Leafs don't have room to sign him, I'd also love Brodie.

  23. I was just thinking that more defensemen will become available. TBD should make the team right out of training camp. I am keeping an eye on him like I did with L brown.

  24. Sign Klingberg, 7.5m X6 then trade Brannstrom + Zaitsev + 2023 2nd Rounder + 2024 2nd rounder for Chychrun

Chychrun and Zaitsev have the same cap hit, and we have the room to sign Klingberg

    Chabot – Zub

    Chychrun – Klingberg

    Sanderson – Hamonic/Lassi

Thats an elite top 4 and even the bottom pair has huge upside with Sanderson.

I do not feel like Brannstrom will translate to anything better than a top 6, trade him now as he is still seen to have a higher ceiling. If Brannstrom goes another season bouncing between the AHL and NHL and is in the press box for a number of games then next year his value drops significantly.

  25. Now that Jake Virtanen is vindicated, found not guilty, Ottawa should pick him up on a one year deal !!
