  1. Chris Chelios playing for Detroit?!? McCarty hat trick?!?! Who thought that would have ever happened!??

  2. I love how everyone crashes the net and bodies go flying everywhere and the refs will casually call a slashing penalty away from the chaos. Ole time hockey

  3. still remember watching D'Mac's Natural Hattrick. I can watch this over and over.

  4. Рой говно, ред вингс рвали его чпостоянно.🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍

  5. damn hockey was an animal back then 90% if not more of those hits in this series would be penalties and or suspensions/fines now days

  6. Even though the Avs actually won 3 series to Detroits 2,in that era-I think people forget that-but the main reason Detroit won 3 Cups,& we "only" got 2,was they had a much better 4th line than Colorado. I think that played a roll in Dallas winning 1999,& 2000 WCFs also. Avs were just out of gas by game 7. In 1999,& 2002,Avs also had 3-2 series leads, going back to Denver…but couldn't close the deal. 2002 Detroit was just the better team though…Avs overachieved even getting that far. I don't think those Dallas teams were better though. But Belfour was friking amazing. Of course in 2001,Avs had win games 6,& 7 vs NJ…but that was without arguably the best player in the world at the time, Peter Forsberg.

  7. After the face crunching cheap shot by Claude and winning the Cup in 1996 until NOW (2022) the Avalanche made one…yep…just ONE more Stanley Cup final in 2001 and they won. Big deal!
Meanwhile the Detroit Red Wings would play in 5.
    And win 4 Cups.
Thanks for the hatred and motivation Colorado. It's served us well.
    Yeah….and we still hate you….

  8. I’ve never seen a series so closely contested through 6 games, that ends with an absolute blowout by one team in game 7. It’s crazy how Forsberg’s game 5 OT winner was the last goal Colorado scored in the series. They only managed 2 goals in the final 3 games and Detroit scored 10.

  9. Game 7 was so shocking and anticlimactic. It was the end of the red hot Avs/Wings rivalry from 1996-2002.

  10. I wonder if Colorado just ran out of gas by game 7. They’d played 3 straight game 7s that playoff year & won the Cup the year before. With how physical these series with Detroit always were, I’m sure they just didn’t have it anymore for game 7

  11. I still don't understand why we have a new format for the playoff bracket. This format was way better!

  12. The best rivalry in my opinion. That wings team. Rob Blake hits were Devastating. I hated that he got traded but was happy he finally won a cup.

  13. Detroit Red Wings had a great talented championship team hall of famers players a long list so did the Colorado team same talented team too

  14. It's funny looking back at this series 20 years later with the Avalanche back in the Conference Final for the first time since.
You don't know what you had until it's gone. We didn't know that this would be the last great Clash Of The Titans before all the big names started retiring or moving on. It truly was a special time when these two teams were the best in the game, at the height of their powers, that absolutely despised each other.
There hasn't been anything like it ever since. Good memories.

  15. Pattie Fucking Wah scoring on himself, and getting ran from Game 7. PRICELESS.

  16. Avs were such a dirty team haha, the amount of cheap shit that went unnoticed by the refs in these highlights alone is nuts

  17. When people talk about these teams it’s almost like they forget Datsyuk was on it.

  18. It’s so glorious that Roy’s lasting legacy in this rivalry was getting his ass beat by 2 goalies and getting chased out in a game 7 in Detroit. Appreciate you boy.

  19. I love how Hasek acted like he wanted to fight Roy, Hasek has been ice skating for his whole life but in that moment when skating to Roy he fell? Hasek wasn't even trying to fight Roy 😂

  20. Fuuuuuuck I want this rivalry back. I was a baby in 96-98 and a kid in 02. But I remember the games. Bring it back.

  21. What an intense physical series featuring two great teams loaded with hall of fame players, and coaches.

  22. Man that McCarty hat trick was so legendary in the first game, then the 7-0 absolute shut out in the last game where the only goal Colorado scored was taken away… Wow, Red Wings were such an incredible team back then, the energy from the fans during the home games was electric. I used to go see them with my dad at Joe Louis in the 90's and it was amazing.
