At 29 and only breaking 30 goals once, the 99 points is an outlier, imo. Not optimal to sign on to 8 mill long term and wouldn't want the devils to give up what they'd have to in order to bring him on when he's likely never going to repeat that production. At 5-6 mil I'd be interested depending on how they fit him in under the cap.

  2. After missing out on Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk, the Devils will look to trade Jesper Boqvist, Damon Severson, prospects Kevin Bahl and Shakir Mukhamadullin and a 2023 2nd-rounder to the Canucks for J.T. Miller.

  3. He's not the right guy because of the crazy money he's going to get at this time. He was marginally a 20 goal guy until last year when he peaked. Maybe he'll get better, or maybe at his age he'll get injured, but to get the elite top 10 in the league bucks… no thanks.

  4. I’m hoping the Devs aren’t done but if they are, I’m ok.. big FA in 23 great draft in 23, if Fitzy wants to bring in a body would love Timo Meier would be sweet in NJ.. Also can’t wait to see these Rev Alt Jersey’s in white with the KC Scout theme…

  5. I think having him would be great but with his high contract (once the Devils extend him) it may cause problems down the road with signing ELCs. Vancouver is also cap strapped so they really aren't in a position to play hardball with any team. There is no rush. Championship teams are made through the draft, not by acquiring big ticket free agents.

  6. I am a canucks fan and I am honestly torn. JT is a great player and a work horse and since coming over from Tampa has been a ppg for us. Van needs him but cant afford to keep him. We cant afford it next year and need to get something back as opposed to getting Gudreau'd like Calgary. My guess is whoever get Miller and signs him will be happy for 4 years and the canucks will be unhappy with the return.

  7. Fitzgerald talked about adding a bigger tougher element to the forward group and all he did was overpay for Palat. I like Miller and want him here but I don’t see it happening. Fitzgerald seems afraid to make a move.

How about giving Nolan Foote a chance at LW on one of the top 2 lines? They acquired him to be a Tkachuk/Miller type. We aren’t a playoff team so what do we have to lose? If he fails then we probably won’t ever see him again in a Devils uniform but if he plays well we got a cheap power forward.

  8. The only trade I wanna see the devils make now is for Timo Meier..he has great chemistry with Nico..The captain deserves it

  9. I say sign bratt. Get miller I'm exchange for a defenseman from last year draft and Andreas Johansson. Trade Thompson

  10. Only rumours….he’s going to sign an extension with the Canucks! Stop taking what you read as facts!

  11. Taylor Hall Hart year vibes. He blacked out and most likely won't do this again I wouldn't do it

  12. Please! Stop linking the Devils to big players. Fitzgerald is 0 for 6 at landing big names this year. Fiala, DeBrincat, Husso, Slafkovsky Gaudreau, Tkachuk were all linked to the Devils as the leading suitor… Bratt hits the arbitration table on Aug 3rd and (statistically speaking, players who go through the arbitration process don't stay on the same team for more than two years) he will lose Bratt too. So please, stop linking the Devils to players.

  13. Devs better not get miller. Fitz has been great at holding his ground he is gone after tkachuk before and after the draft but refused to overpay. Same with Johnny once the price got to high he held his ground. He is doing fantastic!

  14. Fitz said he wasn’t done and devs have a shit ton more cap then u may think we have like 13 mil coming off the cap soon. Huberdeau or timo

  15. I’d love to see Myers and Pearson packaged, over $9mil off the books right there then offer JT similar to Hughes and Petey (maybe $7.7 X 5yrs). Team will still be over the cap though. Try to just dish out the Poolmans., see if you can add a D man that will shock us. I mean it’s Ruthlessford, he should be able to to pull it off but there’s still lotta time! And honestly, as much as it sucks to say it, it may be Garland or both him and some or all of the above! Gotta give to get.

    NO giving away 1st, 2nd or 3rds!!!

  16. i live in vancouver and have had the pleasure of watching JT for 3 seasons and he is a beast. he's tough, stays healthy and nobody screws with him. vancouver gave him top line minutes and he delivered. if he had the same role in tampa i'm sure his point total would be up where it has been in van.

  17. NJ needs another NHL ready goalie.
Coming in to another season relying on Blackwood is a huge mistake. That being said, Fitzgerald whiffed on every major free agent available on the market. Nor were the Devils in the running for Debrincat or Pacioretty or any other big name on the trading block. NJ overpaid for Palat , a 3rd-4th liner who doesnt average 20 goals nor 50 pts per season.
Wood coming off an injury cant be signed long term. Bratt the teams best player a year ago , after being disrespected by his own during the year with the All-Star fiasco is not yet signed (while Jonas got a serious raise with years) is extremely telling.
The proof is in the pudding. NJ is not significantly better than they left off last year.

" We are still in a development phase" – Tom Fitzgerald 2022. 2 decades after the "rebuild" started…..

  18. Miller getting traded tooooooooooo

NO ONE!!! He’s staying with the Canucks and when he doesn’t get 99 pts again he’s gonna resign for a more reasonable deal probably in the 7 mil range with term

  19. A former Canuck is free to sign with anybody. Jake Virtanen fits the power forward mold and is a right handed shot. He would come cheap after just being found not guilty by a jury. Give him a PTO contract and see what happens.

  20. Interesting stuff… I'm a Canucks fan, and personally, I'm hoping Miller signs an extension to stay in Vancouver (he has been amazing in the 3 seasons he's been in Vancouver; very impressive!) I really want to see Myers moved, for both CAP reasons, AND I just don't think, talent-wise, he's worth anywhere near the insane salary contract Benning signed him for as a UFA. Canucks HIGHEST priority is a top 3 Dman, preferably someone who will be able to slide in beside Quinn Hughes, and play 22+ 1st-pair minutes without being a concern. If Miller is moved, that's where Vancouver need to focus on the return, rather than a lot of the forwards you've mentioned here. So looking at the teams being rumoured here in a Miller deal, who can best afford that return?

  21. hard pass. we already got palat. atleast with him we have a veteran that knows how to lift cups.

  22. these rumors got old fast. its best not to listen to anybodys opinion until something finally happens. dobson is a dream..maybe target walstrom

  23. When talking about Carolina if they throw in bear like you said, that would clear 2.2 million and make Miller fit.

  24. Unless the return for Miller is substantial (which is unlikely) I don’t understand the apparent urge to move him. Guys a cornerstone in the locker room already, then goes out and puts up 100pts, and ppl want to ship him off. Say “oh we need draft picks, he’s too old for our core”… Honestly unless picking 1st.. no one knows how a pick will pan out. Even if one does, by the time he’s likely to hit his stride, the young core we’re referring to now will be at the age JT is. So then we’ll ship them out too? Players like JT don’t grow on trees. Sometimes u gotta appreciate what u have.
