  1. If the New Jersey Devils make this deal, their #2 pick will not be involved. This pick has never been moved in NHL history and it is not happening this year either. Fiala can be acquired with players, prospects, and other draft picks not in the first round.

  2. Only problem is what the centerpiece of this trade will be! NJD won’t part with Holtz or L Hughes, but maybe a different top 6 piece… Mercer or Sharangovich maybe, but it would kill the fan base. Maybe Ty Smith? He still is believed by many to still have high value tho! Perhaps a package of NJD 2nd and 3rd rounders and other top wing prospects like Nolan Foote, Tyce Thompson, or Fabian Zetterlund. Wild need cheap assets, and the Devils have them….

  3. Also come on man, the Devils aren’t trading the 2nd overall for anyone except Quinn Hughes

  4. Fiala is trash. Why get him when they can get Boeser for a better deal? Boeser is a better pure goal scorer and he hasn't even hit his prime.

  5. Devils can WAIT!!! We have the youngest core in the league right now let’s take slaf and see how they do for the next 3 years. If it goes well that’s a dynasty

  6. Glad Fiala had a decent season, but no thx. Rather pay our future stars and add cheap veterans through FA or at the deadline

  7. 👎🏻 not for the second… especially when they up against the cap.. keep the pick

  8. Im not a fan of either team really but if your nj the guys he just listed will be rfa as well so so you have to think if cap space for them as well or do you think you can win a cup before they a contract extension

  9. I don’t want to give up this years pick. Only way i could see that happening if we could get a packade deal with Wallstedt and Fiala. We would provobly have to add a bit to that pick but That’s alright. Otherwise I would rather give up next years 1st, which would be top 3 protected. Add Smith, a prospect or two and maybe a draft pick i’m happy.

  10. I'm not against getting Fiala per say (not a top choice) however the phone is being hung up if Min is asking for the 2oa

  11. To be honest, nobody really showed up in the playoffs besides Erickson Ek and Kaprizov.

  12. Still likely going to be Ottawa, I don’t think NJ wants to trade the #2 pick .

  13. As an Ottawa fan, I'd rather they target Dumba (with an extension) than Fiala. I think there are more affordable top6 winger options available via trade or free agency that they can get and not as many top4 Defensemen.

  14. only player i’d trade the pick for is Alex Debrincat who seems to be on the way out of a rebuilding Blackhawks

  15. From the Wild's cap space, I think there is no way to re-sign Fiala.

So, there will be some combination of draft choices and/or players to move Fiala. The Wild may or may not need to include draft capital for the trade.

  16. Devils should just draft Slafkovsky and sign Nichushkin. Fiala is a bum.

  17. If we trade Fiala for second and a prospect I’d want him to be a good to great scorer. I’d take Cooley.

  18. Can't give up the 2nd overall, need to think of the future first and Slafkosky has too high a ceiling to pass on. Zacha, player like Boqvist and a 2nd round draft pick PLUS taking that salary off their books is plenty to offer.

  19. Wild fan here

Per comments in reading I feel way too many are placing too much value in draft picks in comparison to what is a ready to go, point per game player now in Fiala.

The trade is a win win as it fills all needs for both teams.

Wild wouldn't be moving Fiala for a pick if they didn't have to buyout Parise and Suter.

Surely there's risk on both ends, but greater risk whoever drafted at 2 becomes a bust than Fiala not pulling his weight in a solid lineup in New Jersey.

  20. It blows my mind how much people overrate draft picks. People saying they'd never trade a 2nd, what are the chances that 2nd becomes a 90+ point scorer? Fiala was 22nd highest point scorer playing with a rookie and a centre who had scored 18 points in his last 4 seasons combined! If you want to wait 4 years banking on this pick, in a weak draft, becoming a top 15 player in the nhl, be my guest.
