  1. The Rangers will not give up on this kid yet. I don’t think Turk was wrong for scratching him… He’s been playing timid, and you can’t be timid in the NHL playoffs. If the Rangers would’ve won game six without him… Everyone commenting against the scratch would be calling Turk a genius. Playing Monday morning quarterback is the easiest job in the world. Being the coach of an NHL team is not. Live by the sword you die by the sword. He’s a young kid… It’s going to take time… He has all potential in the world but he has not lived up to his expectations yet. Maybe being scratched out of a huge playoff game will light a fire under the kids Ass.

  2. I really like this guy. Inhope he uses the scratch as motivation for this off season and next yr.

Bit he does seem a little sore about it

  3. Gallant scratched Kakko because "he was trying to win a hockey game". Then in his place he puts a fringe NHL player named Dryden Hunt who was a healthy scratch for the past 17 games and hadn't played at all for over 5 weeks. Let that sink in.

  4. I love Kappo. It was a bad move to bench him and here is why Strome was hurt and Goody was hurt. Coach made a bad move that being said. If I ran this team I’d pkg. Kappo and Bread for a Center that can score and win draws. We’re short on shots and lousy on faceoffs teams that come up ice hard and crash the net not this dump and chase crap. Coach liked the close games even the one goal games we lost Check the shot totals and that’s why we’re loosing these close games with our offensive talent the Games shouldn’t of been that close.

  5. He has done virtually nothing since he has been here. He was the second pick in the draft and talked about like he was going to be a star. He is a liability along the boards in his own end, plays small, is not physical and when he gets the puck mostly he skates around the back of the net and then turns the puck over. He is young and maybe he can improve but let's be honest he hasn't shown much or given any coach a reason to play him more.

  6. Glad he's able to finally get rid of that attempt at a playoff beard/mustache

  7. Kaapo wants to stay and play here! He’s committed to getting better. I like this kid a lot.

  8. Now you have the motivation to show us all your mettle. We want to see the Kappo from the World Junior Championships. Get to work, go to the net, and shoot for the puck for the love of G-d!

  9. It is a wake up call. Those who watch the games closely were not surprised that much by this move from Gallant. The others, well, they are still influenced by his draft ranking and a couple of good games here and there. But it's time for him to show what he's made of. He's too "timid" for my liking when it comes to the things he has to do to to be successful and consistent.
It is rather concerning that he says he thought he was playing well enough to garantee his spot in the line-up.
And this presser tells me he didn't get all the memo except for the part when he said that it will motivate him to get better.
BTW Kaapo, if you don't know why you were scratched why not ask the question to the coach? I'm sure he wanted you to do so. Just saying!

  10. rangers media isn’t likable at all. bunch of phonies trying to create drama. they get all brave asking questions like these to the players who don’t speak english good.

  11. its amazing how far his english has come since he was first drafted, going from being barely able to speak/understand to near full comprehension

  12. How do you play an injured player over kakko? Absolutely horrible move! Wth was he thinking ?? I didn’t mind hunt playing but no brainer strome you’re sitting out on this one

  13. ridiculous to bench him…especially since this team has so many garbage forwards who are not good now and will never be good in the future. kk will be better than most of the scrubs on this roster. hunt? rooney? motte? reaves? goodrow? strome? even copp and vitrano are limited players with minimal upside. maybe they'll play mckegg 40+ gams again next year? or brodzinsky? it was a moronic move to bench the guy that you are praying develops because if he doesn't, the next rebuild will begin sooner than we think. gg is not a coach with any creativity or imagination – his 'system' is meant for middling talent and will guarantee that the young forwards will never fulfill their potential.

  14. Nice kid but he plays like its a sin to shoot on goal…3 years 26 goals !!! not good enough for me..it will be the same next year…maybe Cherry is right..get Canadian players !!!

  15. I might be the only one questioning Gallant for more than just scratching KK. IMO coaching has room to improve or replace him.

  16. I think what happen here is Gallant was fired for a 4 game losing streak in Vegas and he was wronged in that situation. No chance he was being fired for taking us to the Eastern Conf Finals but he panicked by scratching Kakko and Reaves because we were 5 and 0 in elimination games and we were facing that 4 game losing streak game 6 and I feel the right move was to go down with the ship that got you there unless there was q major reason to scratch these guys. Our kid line was effected which was out best 5 on 5 line for the playoffs and taking Reaves out made Tampa awfully happy 1 less big body coming full speed them , We needed forechecking more than ever late in the series but we were also gassed as a team due to the rough schedule of 20 games in 40 days, That caught up to us, No other team had to play that much with all the overtimes and 7 game series. Pitt and Carolina were 2 very tough outs and jumping on 2 time champions 2 games to none we really had the toughest schedule to that point. Next year we all are expecting big things and I couldnt be more proud of this group of guys, Gave New york something real to get excited about , Its been a long time. The future is bright.

  17. Tough to read. Kakko didn't stand out in games 4 and 5, but either did some of the other forwards. Kakko stated he didn't feel like he did much wrong out there. I do fault him for not being honest with himself. He could have been better. Chytil and Laf were grinding, but KK's play seemed to get softer as the series went along.

  18. Growing pains, this kid is good. He'll be better from this 🔵⚪🔴

  19. His English has improved noticeably even from earlier this season.

People are making too much of the healthy scratch. Do your work this summer, kid, and show them that they should never scratch you again. You've got it in you.

  20. His whole problem is his game isn't built for north america.. he needs to be more competitive on the ice.. his skills are there but he doesn't have the grit in his game to play here.. he would be a star in sweden

  21. I'm sure he is motivated. He needs to put on 20 lbs and put guys on his hips. If he increases his strength, his game will be much improved and he'll be more durable. He's listed at 6'3" and 199 lbs. He should probably target 220. More weight training and a better diet, he'll be able to do it.

  22. The entire kid line needs to be integrated into the top 6. They’re all only going to get better.
