He hasn’t played a complete season in a few years now,he is after all 35,so the Pens are just evaluating what he is worth to them now and down the road.He will get what he wants from another team anyway.I wouldn’t be too worried about his bank account people,he has made millions.
He might still go to free agency but the local Pittsburgh sports writers are clowns and have gotten nearly every trade/contract rumor wrong this year. Flipping a coin has as much predictive power honestly. But yeah, he might still go. Free agency should be interesting regardless! 😅

Salaries keep going up, but the cap hasn't. Most every "good" team is facing the same dilemma and these decisions are tough. Pens are probably better off signing a UFA Center to play behind Crosby and moving on from Malkin — Letang on the other hand would have been harder to replace given the current crop of UFA d'men.
I think it would be great for Malkin to play somewhere else.
How could a franchise fail a player when 3 cups and over a decade commitment to said player… when term and annual salary to a player long in the teeth is troublesome to the team, it's time to make big boy decisions and let them walk… thanks Malkin but it's time to turn the corner… Sid and Letang are the drivers of the team… Hey Chicago take heed and maybe Toews is in the same boat… don't let nostalgia sink your team

Honestly i think Malkin’s a declining player. Trust me i had him in my hockey pool two years ago. And he was very disappointing.
Malkin just doesn’t understand that legacy contracts are a bad thing. His point of view is “well I did all this for you in the past, so I deserve a lot of money now.” No, Geno. That’s what you do for young players who have phenomenal years and you want to keep them long term. Malkin thinks we should be paying him for past accomplishments, not what we’re getting in the future.
Malkin is just a greedy player.. he makes a million more a season then Sid.and at 9.7 he is overpaid….only played 74 games last 2 seasons……he has made a fortune and needs to give the Pens a team friendly deal. Malkin will be back in Pittsburg as no other team will sign him for what he wants. the salary cap is killing all the greedy players
