    I'm an Avs fan and the situation was odd. We needed a goalie and the Oilers were supposedly also in the bidding for Kuemper. The Avs also had some goalie issues for several years in a row that probably ended their season early. I think that all came together and with Grubauer leaving, Sakic knew he would have to either outbid Edmonton or risk another contending season with a huge weakness in goal. Obviously hindsight says if the Avs win the Cup, it was totally worth it.

    I remember how all us Avs fans called you out so hard with that "fleeced" video, but with good reason, the bottom line is that you never doubt Super Joe. You could have also said Colorado gave up too much for Lehkonen. Justin Barron and a 2nd sounds ridiculous for something that is way less than a one year rental, it's more like a quarter year rental. But Lehkonen is built for the playoffs, and Sakic is sure he can convince Arturri to stay longer.

    If the Avs win the cup, Darcy has the choice of chasing the biggest pay check now that he has a ring like Grubauer did(who had already won in Washington), or if he is more interested in continuing to win and building a legacy with Colorado, then gives them a discount for being on a team that makes his job easier.

    Grubhauer will never win a cup, hold me to that!! He got paid and the avs came up with dominance by luck and chance and skill. Sakic deserves this. GO AVS!!

    I think maybe you are right, but where they going to find a quality goaltender at value, Timmins is a high prospect, and Sakic had bent to the will of the Coyotes. Knowing what was at stake with many Avanache players raising their stock, especially Kadri, the time for winning is now. If their progress or even if a Stanley Cup appearance, who knows what MacKinnon's values or needs are, come free agency 2023? Pretty sure the Avs would make MacKinnon happy at any price if he asked, but if your not a contender, MacKinnon is very competitive, and that's why they locking Landy, Miko and Makar, was a result of trying to give MacKinnon a core he can win with.
