  1. Note to my regular viewers: If the title/thumbnail/video length didn't make it obvious enough, this compilation includes Colorado's goals. This video is meant to appeal to all hockey fans, not just our fanbase.

  2. 1996 Avalanche Win Cup
    1997 Red Wings Win Cup

    2001 Avalanche Win Cup
    2002 Red Wings Win Cup

    2022 Avalanche Win Cup
    Red Wings in 2023 🤔👍

  3. I love that this video is including the goals for both Detroit and Colorado in every single series they played. It shows that this is meant to be enjoyed by both fanbases especially since the rivalry was even and led to championships for both squads. This is easily the best rivalry of the 90's/ early 2000's and this video exemplifies it. LGRW and Go Avs Go!

  4. Honestly don’t think we’ll ever see anything like this in sports again. A rivalry for the ages.

  5. Coffey, Lidstrom, Bourque, Blake, Datsyuk, Hull, Forsberg, Roy, Yzerman, Fedorov, Sakic, the names in this series are out of this world

  6. My first real introduction to hockey was watching the Redwings vs Avalanche in 1997. I was at training school in the Navy. I saw the first one mostly by accident. I would head down to the sports bar every game and sat in a mostly empty bar watching the game. Just fell in love with watching hockey. So much better of a spectator sport than anything else.

  7. I was one of the very few Wings fan rooting for the Avs in the finals this year. And the reason for that is 2 reasons;

    1. There is a rivalry between the Wings and Bolts that has been in the works for several years. To me, the Lightning are currently what the Avs were to us in those dynasty years. I firmly believe the stronger the Wings get, the tension and competitiveness with Tampa will increase. And I can’t wait to see it. Huge dislike for Tampa and had much enjoyment seeing them lose.
    2. The war we had with Colorado, made me grow respect for the Avs org even more. The Avalanche teams we competed against, did so much for the history of hockey. Joe Sakic has done an incredible job pushing in the front office and he deserves every bit of the finals win. Pretty neat watching him lift the cup as an old man. What a series it was to watch.

  8. Thanks again awood for all of your hard work, and the passion you have as a hockey and Red Wings' fan. You always do a great job!

  9. man, I hope Stevie can get the Wings back like Joe has for the Avs. I think McCarty said it best on his show. There would be nothing better than Avs-Wings finals.

  10. After re-watching these highlights it still amazes me how utterly lethal Sakic's shot was when he had open ice. As a Wings fan I would literally hold my breath when he had the puck cuz he could score from anywhere.

  11. The 1999 series was a crazy one. The first two games, Detroit looked sharp, winning in OT in Game 1, then winning handedly in Game 2, then when the series shifted to the Joe, the Wings fell apart, and Ranford got shelled.

As they went back to Colorado, Roy stood firm and Detroit was on the brink.

With their backs against the wall, Detroit fought valiantly, but Colorado was too determined, and Peter Forsberg sent the Wings packing.

Bottom line: The Wings can only imagine if the series would have been different had Chris Osgood not gotten hurt, and Bill Ranford not been a shell of himself in Games 3 & 4. (pun intended)

  12. No offense to any Red Wings fans out there, but you have to admit, Colorado had some very talented players in Joe Sakic, Valeri Kamensky & Peter Forsberg to name a few.

You know what they say, every good championship team needs an arch-rival, and look no further to Detroit-Colorado for a true definition of that!

  13. These weren’t just two incredibly deep, and highly skilled teams, where even their second and third lines were solid, but both teams were incredibly physical, and these Playoff games were fiercely contested. The crazy part to add on to this, was that you have HoF goaltender Roy, And Vernon, Osgood, and HoF Hazek goaltending over the years.
The star power on these two teams was unbelievable, and most of us knew this was basically the Stanley cup playoffs series to watch, as few teams in the east could ever match this intensity in that span
