The black and the White Skater jersey of the Canucks are my faves… not because of the logo but the color combos. They should go back to those color combos but with the orca.
Shannon, I was unaware that there was a 2-3-2 format in 1994. I am a Ranger fan, and vividly remember The Rangers/Devils series going 2-2-1-1-1. One conference had one format, and the other had a different one? So odd.
how can you have McLean over Bure for Conn Smythe?
its funny how cliff ronnings son ty ronning is now a prospect for the rangers
Another factor that nobody thinks of is that the 1st place Detroit Red Wings were upset in the first round by the 8th San Jose Sharks (who lost to the Leafs next round). If the Wings had beaten the Sharks, the Canucks would have played them 2nd round, would the Canucks have beaten the Wings too? Or did that upset by the Sharks pave the way to the finals for the Canucks? I'm glad we had an all-Canadian WCF with the Leafs though, and that hasn't happened since that season (2 Canadian teams in the final 4).
In game 5 of the SCF I was there – just a youngster – but I remember there had just been a Rangers goal disallowed just before the end of the 1st. In the bathrooms of MSG, the fans were chanting 'Andy takes it up the ass, doo dah, doo dah' – I'll never forget it. From a rangers fan, this was a rollercoaster in the other direction, but being there was pretty damn cool.
Boston fan here I thought the canucks would crush the bruins in 2011
Love ur vids btw
You should make The Finalists 2011
There is a video here on YOuTube about those 94 Canucks. Very good story.
as close as they'll ever get / as good as they'll ever be
That Calgary series I will never forget . Seems like after game 4 everyone counted them out . No one was watching or cared in Vancouver. That game 7 was intense , they tied the game up late, then that over time , so many chances both ways . That crazy save then the goal.
Finals game 6, was that not the game where Vancouver was up 3-2 scores but no one saw it, rangers came back and scored but after finding out instead of 3-3 it was 4-2. Rangers were a powerhouse that year . Like the 96 avalanche no team was going to stop them
memory lane
"You don't know this, but Trevor Linden had cracked ribs and torn rib cartilage for the last four games of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final," Cliff Ronning said. "You can't imagine what it's like to hear your captain, in a room down the hall, screaming at the top of his lungs as they injected the needle into his rib cage. Knowing him, he probably thought we couldn't hear. He would then walk into our dressing room like nothing had happened. That was inspirational."
Before this I was a major Naslund fan. Since I was 2 when the 94 run happened so I wasn't big on hockey until the Naslund era, but this made me a massive Linden fan. We throw around the term "warrior" a lot. But Linden epitomized what it meant to be a warrior. He didn't play injured and hold the team back, he played injured and carried the hopes of the entire team and city with him on his back. He inspired the team to be better and play better than anyone thought possible. The saddest thing for me as a Canucks fan is not being able to watch the 94 run unfold with everyone else at the time. Cause that must have truly been something special to see.
Dang how late was the trade deadline back then?
Hi Shannon , love the channel. I grew up in Vancouver bc , been in Oregon 20 years . I’m still a Canucks fan, been to lots of games ( my friend has seasons tickets). To me the 94 cup run was the greatest time ( except for the riot) in Canucks’ history. The way Bure, linden, McLain all played was epic . My mom still has the Kellogg’s box with linden on it . I remember the leafs’ coach said he would eat crow if the Canucks beat them. I’m still a Canucks fan, but the 2011 riots have made the rest of the nhl fandom hate us. Keep up the great work Shannon. P.s I’m glad Seattle is getting a team, need one in Portland as well.
It was so close to being Canucks vs. Devils if not for Matteau.
The 2-3-2 format was used in the 1994 & 1995 playoffs, but it was only for matchups between the Pacific and Central divisions.
😊
The NHL had just come to Texas this year and even though Vancouver knocked out Dallas, they were an easy team to root for and it was a fun ride. Still one of my favorite Finals, even though the wrong team won.
pretty sure everyone outside of NY and the nhl press was cheering for the canucks in this series. i sure was.
Let's Go Rangers!!! I love you, Hockey Guy, but I am loyal to my Rangers. That was one of the most insane series (next to the ECF Rangers – Devils 1994) I've ever seen and the Canucks fans should be very proud of what they accomplished in 1994 as the 7 seed and then going 7 games with the #1 NY Rangers. Trevor Linden and Pavel Bure became 2 of my favorite players all time after that series, still love them. And I do root for the Canucks, rooted hard for them in 2011 against Boston. It seems Rangers and Canucks fans will always have a deep connection. I have a very close friend who is a lifelong Canucks fan and we get along great.
Brian Leetch also played this entire series with a separated shoulder and STILL won the Conn Smyth
I remember thinking that if Janney played on a line with Pavel Bure or if Peter Nedved were manning the 2nd line of the Canucks the Rangers wouldnt have stood a chance.
It's tough to be reminded of this one-oh why…
What an incredible team and year. My favorite team of all time, the 94 Canucks
Jeff Brown can definitely a money player… On ice, that is.
In the dressing room, though he invariably would cause, or invite conflict between players…
It was an ongoing thing for Brown…
His great on ice play is completely negated by theResting ant insurmountable endeavor of keeping Brown's teammates actually the innumerable "You're Dead"
And stepping in when a player upon vitriolicly shouting the above epithet, remains little too long. In the "Actually, Considering It" stage….
You can bet if Janney was in place of Lafayette in Game 7 he would have scored instead of hitting the crossbar.
I miss that era in hockey.
The most nerve racking game i've seen, is the game 7 OT game vs Chicago during the 2011 run. I've never yelled so loud in my life when Burrows scored.
