1. Face it: we were taken for a ride by this idiot, and his representation. He had ZERO interest in coming to New Jersey, but wasted no time USING us, and playing with our hopes, to gain leverage with another team. JG was NEVER taking us to the finals, and onward we march. We have a TON of talent now, an$ in th3 pipeline, so let JG wallow in mediocrity for the next 7 years. We will be busy refining our TEAM approach.

  2. There are still players out there unsigned. Go and sign Palat. Let's not forget this team had no issues scoring goals last season. It was goaltending and defense.

  3. I’m definitely a tad disappointed.
Would have loved to have in our uniform. We need an impact player/players like that and have to spend some money 💰

  4. He's a Flyers fan born n raised, I guess it was kind of a stretch for him to sign with the Devils (the same reason I'd refuse to play for the Flyers), and even then, our offense is fine, it's goal tending and defense we need big moves on. I really don't know what Gaudreau sees in Columbus nor do I think Jarmo has an idea as to what he's going to do about their cap. Some of their good players could hit the market that we might be interested in and able to pick up. When I saw the initial contract pitches from Fitz, I was worried that we might find ourselves in another Subban situation for 7 years. Now we can try and snag Timo from the Sharks or Tkachuk from the Flames as their teams start to look at rebuilding and unloading expensive players (if we're still looking at forwards, I still think we need a solid net minder and a couple more D-men first and foremost).

  5. I’m okay with losing out on him. They just signed Palat which I’m luckwarmn on. I’m not giving up the Tkachuk dream, 😂

  6. Probably the most bizarre signing I can think of. Doesn’t seem to make sense on any level whatsoever. Some players just look odd / wrong in certain jerseys

  7. Palat and/or Niederreiter are the only other UFA wingers I would like to see. Maybe a slight possibility that a Tkachuk trade can be revisited as well, depending on how his relationship with Calgary turns out over the next few days. Other than that, hoping Holtz and/or Foote can take a huge step and have a significant impact this season.

  8. I agree and have the same mixed emotions. I would've loved to see him in a Devils uniform. Yet there are literally BIGGER fish in the sea that are still available that wont bankrupt the team. Perhaps Fitzy still has some moves up his sleeve. My concern was JG at 10M x 7 years. I don't think that ages well. The Devils future looks good. — Now lets get Jesper Bratt signed. Perhaps one more UFA if possible — like Nino Niederreiter or Dylan Strome.

  9. Flames fans, I feel you. We’ve been written off by multiple UFA’s in the past. This is honest coming from a diehard CBJ fan. It’s nice to have a top UFA want to be here. This also tells me there’s more moves to come for us to be able to sign Laine. When I first heard of the news I was shocked.. I was out golfing with a friend and he said, “Gaudreau just signed with Columbus.” I said fuck you there’s no way because he’s not into hockey like I am. And sure enough… I feel for you Calgary because y’all are my favorite Canadian team..

  10. Tkachuck and Pasternak are UFAs next offseason. Keep financial flexibility this year and make a big push next summer for a better player

  11. It's not a shock that he'd pick a team that has no chance to make the playoffs, why? Because "MR Hockey" is a playoff choke artist, plain and simple. Good riddance!

  12. This sucks, but missing out on a player is NOT at all the worst thing. We have MAINTAINED cap flexibility which is huge in this day and age. Wasting cap space on non-elite talent is the worst thing.

  13. Don’t worry we have a big addition coming to the team- Holtz. I expect a stay line from him like 75gm 31g 28a. Maybe closer to 25 goals, but I will be shocked if he doesn’t put up .7 pts per game (eg. – 65gm 45p, 75gm 53p). He tore it up in Utica last year 57gm 27g 27a with 3.1 shots per game which is an often overlooked key stat. If you aren’t an elite playmaker you must put up 3 shots a game to really make an impact. Players that consistently shoot over 15% are incredibly rare. Fortunately Holtz may be an elite sniper and playmaker who ends up putting up many 40 goal and 85 point seasons on Hischier or Hughes’ wing.

  14. I still don't get the Zacha trade. Why trade a 25 year old who has 1st round talent potential for a 31 year old who has shown all his 7th round potential? I'm usually the ultimate Devils optimist but this last week has definitely taken the air out of my positivity.

  15. I dont think about it like we lost Johnny hockey, we never had him to lose him. I never expect FAs to come here, thats why Hamilton for me was such a surprise. Having said that, Im happy for Columbus, sure they’re a division rival now but this might be the move to take them up a level in terms of reputation. Other than flyers and pitt, this is as close to home as he can get so it makes sense on that front too. It would have been nice, ofc the guy is dynamite on the ice but it’ll probably work out okay and we need cap for down the road.

  16. We dodged a bullet. Money better spent on other needs.

  17. Gudreau probably hated NJ Devils because we pounded the Flyers when we won 3 Stanley Cups in early 2000.

  18. Everyone doesn't want to live in NY, NJ or even Calgary… Columbus is a terrific city Johnny and his family made the best choice for them.
