Rasmus Ristolainen and The Flyers are going on Cup Runs the next few years. Mark my words.
That was one of the only movable assets good enough to trade for a D-man of his size and what he brings to our top 4. The other rumors had TK or Bee going, so I'll happily give up a first in a shallow, weak draft for a player that will make an immediate impact vs waiting a few years down the road. PHI is in win now mode, and I think Risto helps not only in two way ability, but grit and presence that has been absent since Wayne Simmonds, even Chris Pronger; something we lacked in 2019-20 in the playoffs (besides, of course, scoring (@Cam Atkinson)). Also, might I add, he won't be on the flaming center-stage hot seat first line role in PHI, he'll play top 4 on a line with a competent and consistent defensemen in Sanheim. Also have fun with Hagg, he'll fit in beautifully with the forgetfulness with the Sabres roster.

Ristolainen played with Bryson then Samuelsson last year on Buff's top line… both rookies. Borgen played on Buff's 3rd line with Bryson last year or Colin Miller or Montour or Irwin. Finally, when Buff's was playing 5 young D, all under 23 or 24, Ristolainen was on the top pair for Buffalo (Samuelsson, Jokiharju, Dahlin, Bryson and Borgen).

I would say that I'm surprised by Fletcher tradeing our first and a second in '23 (with Hagg) for Risto.
However…
I feel like Rasmus fits in wonderfully well here, and at 5.4 AAV this year, he will get a new deal before summer time next year. Otherwise, we wouldn't have given up that much for him.
And honestly, I HATED playing against this dude when we played Buffalo, but now? I'm going to LOVE having him in orange and black! 😉
As far as Hagg goes, I hope he can crack the lineup every game. He's an awesome penalty killer (even though we sucked there), solid 3rd pair, MAYBE 2nd pair guy depending on how good your pairs shake out there. I wish him well, I'll sort-of-kind-of miss him here lol.

If there was a player to blossom after leaving Buffalo, it’s Ristolainen. He actually put up ok numbers as a defenseman on the worst defensive team of the last decade. But it’s still a massive overpay by the Flyers.
I’m hyped about this deal because the flyers know last year didn’t work so they changed it up and to be honest anything is better than the philly 2021 defense

The past 2 seasons have been pretty sub par for Risto but the 2 seasons before that he had a CF of around 50%. He's played his whole career for a god awful Sabres org and was still a 40 point guy when healthy. Don't understand why people say he's "awful". And def worth more than a 2nd rounder and B prospect as she says

the Flyers should've just kept Ghost and not lost a bunch of picks. Ellis is a massive addition for them, but the difference between Risto and Ghost is not even close to 13th overall, two 2nds, and a 7th. Hagg has no value but it's still awful asset management by Philly and a huge return for Buffalo for sure.

I truly believe Ristolainen will look great in Philadelphia. Flyers d core looks great and deep. Ristolainen on third pairing, no special teams, no pressure. He seemed to be so happy to leave Buffalo, most people are shocked when traded, he just seemed relieved. Do you remember when Christian Ehrhoff signed a 40M contract with Buffalo and went from top 5 offensive d man to a complete failure? Also what’s pretty sad is even if Buffalo have 10 first round picks, they gonna screw it, I wouldn’t trust those talent scouts too much.

Flyers have been known for terrible trades throughout their history. Except for Ron Hextall years, the Flyers love to overpay. That being said, the Flyers have one of the best coaching staffs in the league. If they can't improve Ristolainen, no one can.
Ristolainen may not have been a good ace defenseman on a really bad team, but Philly isn’t going to ask for 22+ minutes a night from him. He’s gonna be a second line D-man and will probably be on the PP (along with Yandle). If he is as bad as you say he is I have to ask why he was deployed so often. Time will tell but the on-ice burden in Philly won’t be nearly as bad.
Flyers will gladly take a big right handed dman who can get 200 hits, 150 blocks, 40 assists, can play on PP and PK. He won't be a #1 in Philly so he'll have good matchups too.
They're desperate giving up 1 and 2nd. They have to have results next season, or else. Your rant could be finished in 1 minute max.
