  1. Never understood why the old home of the Suns isn’t an option for the Yotes. It seats 13K for hockey & was home for the Roadrunners

  2. CFL did similar things some years back. Alouettes moved from 76K stadium to a 25K stadium, and it worked. Argos moved from a 55K stadium to a 25K stadium, and it's been only okay, mostly because stadium is right on the lakefront, and is as cold as hell in the late fall. At any rate, smaller venue could be cool, though the ASU arena is really small. Hard to see how they can make this work. I think it'd be wiser to reno the old Aud in Phoenix for 50M. Capacity is around 11K, and they could fill it. Problem with Glendale is the location. Ottawa and Miami also have similar location issue.

  3. Bettman's Blunder. To say anything negative about AZ would show weakness, so lots of double-talk and lawyer speak.

  4. Ottawa played in the Ottawa civic centre out of expansion. That was a 9.5k capacity before Renos

  5. Last time I can remember a situation like this was when Ottawa first came into the league.

  6. The Coyotes have had ownership problems ever since they left Winnipeg, a move that I am old enough to remember, by the way. The league actually bought the team in 2008 or 09, after footing the bill for them for years. I don’t think they’ve ever turned a profit in Arizona, and Bettman is dumb enough to keep throwing good money after bad. I’m sorry to say it, but they have to fold the team, and start totally fresh. I can think of at least 5 cities where they can put a team and it would be reasonably successful, but the Coyotes are too cancerous of an organization for that to work for them. They’d be the first major sports team to fold since the Dallas Texans in 1952, and the first NHL team since the Brooklyn Americans in 1946 to outright fold, but all streaks end sometime

  7. This issue with the Coyote's effort to stay in AZ has much less to do with action on the ice… The desire to launch a gambling enterprise is where the real "action" resides. They were awarded a gaming license in September. That license allows them to open two physical sports betting parlors. Any lost revenues from ticket sales, advertising, and hot dog sales will be more covered with gambling revenues.. fundamentally, that's where the action is.

  8. tempe tempe tempe, a lot of the people there are transplants from other big cities, they moved there mostly because they don't want to drive forever for everything, just because its in tempe isn't going to make people go there. it is the same problem with the tampa bay rays being ins st pepe instead of downtown tampa. not everyone wants to drive nor take public transportation to games.

  9. Don't think the planned arena in Tempe will ever be built. It looks like a great venue for hockey even if it's small. 5,000 seats. The NHL will subsidise the new arrangement with ASU. I'll be there! I live in Glendale. I'm a fan and I'm disapointed Coyotes management had their heads so far their asses on this. There's NOTHING WRONG with the Gila River Arena. They would have NO PROBLEM SELLING TICKETS IF THE TEAM WAS WINNING! It's clear to this fan that Glendale IS DONE with the bullshit from the team.Wish them well!

  10. Bettman is a lawyer and his client is the NHL owners. Why can't you people get that thru your thick skulls. Why would you make your client look bad or stupid. Simply put that coupled with the NHL declaring it's in a growth business means it will always be America centric. Stop putting so much energy into the Nordiques comeback. If it happens it will. Bettman hates beggers. You gotta move in silence to be successful. But that's just a life lesson in general.

  11. Who approved the Coyotes to move to Glendale? It's not like after the Coyotes moved to Glendale, the population base moved eastward. The population base was already in the east. Yet, the Coyotes owners and the NHL approved the move to Glendale.

Even going further back- the NHL allowed the Winnipeg Jets to be stolen to Phoenix. But, they played in an arena that was not built for hockey- America West Arena, was the name at that time! Well who approved the move into an arena that was not built for hockey?

And this team is so mismanaged. Bad drafts, bad trades. How many winning seasons have they had? How many playoff seasons have they had? How many playoff series wins, have they had? How many terrible owners?
