  1. I'll assume you're from Calgary. I did the country coast to coast 3 times, 3 different ways( hiking, hoping freight trains and simply driving) litteraly pissing in the Atlantic ocean, then the pacific. The 3 worst cities in order (for me and many I've spoken to) are winnipeg, London, Edmonton. Guess who's fourth. To compare Toronto and Calgary is not only unfair it's impossible. If you want to live in a glamour, trendy superficial citie in Canada. Toronto, MTL or Van. This is not a diss on Calgary but if you want a bunch hardworking labour workers rednecks and cowboys … Go to Calgary. There's just nothing appealing for American rich hockey players and their wives to want there. Of course money can be appealing and will make life more entertaining but at the end of the day 10 million in an environment that you probably never will relate to or 9 to be somewhere you've always dreamed of .

  2. players wanting to play in the US is nothing new.. there's also taxes higher in canada. it's a part of the reason why no canadian team has won the cup since the 90's

  3. Important to note that Canadian teams have higher taxes than states with no state income tax like Florida. It was obvious Matthew was trynna get paid😂 you can give him 9 mil a year but the tax man is gonna take half of it🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. If Dubas is still GM he will offer him money that exceeds Mcdavid money . If so, he will stay. Leafs also have a better chance at winning cup then LA as crazy as it might sound. He also really likes Marner so there's a chance he will sign a second contract. I think he struggles alot under pressure but I believe he will get over the playoffs jitters. Leafs also need a stronger supporting cast.

  5. Just so you know, Brady Tkachuk has the C on his jersey because it was a criteria for his contract in order to sign. No C, no contract. Verified fact. He also has a no-move clause in its final three years… which is a way for him to not be traded before it ends so HE can chose where he moves once free agent… if he wants to move indeed.

If I was Ottawa, I'd trade him during his 5th year, no matter what context Ottawa is in.

  6. Laff fans have been so spoiled with mathews winning all those cups. Imagine if he leaves 🤣 🤣 🤣 . Pathetic

  7. I think Canadian government Covid rules nonsense and the higher tax rates here are a bigger factor than patriotism. Just sayin

  8. Brian Burke said Matthews would leave in free agency 2 years ago, And i agree with him! Some Americans players just would rather not play in Canada, I guess all the gun violence turns them on. In all Honesty i am not a Matthews fan, Being a Hab fan i have Guys who played for the Leafs over the years really admired, Salming, Sittler, Watched his 10 point game vs Boston met him in Thorold Ontario in the 70's! Really like Mitch Marner, But Matthews not so much, I think it's a character thing, Great player though, But i think he is gone when he is a free agent.

  9. If he goes let him go. He may want to go home to his parents and family. The Leafs played fine w/o him last year.

  10. They obviously didn't want to play in Canada they were just being nice because Americans are nice. Why would anyone want to live in Canada after all the Tierney and communism spreading throughout the country.

  11. Dude , it wont be long before all nhl players not just americans dont want to play in communist canada.

  12. yes because hes a american and they all want to play in the homeland guaranteed he leaves

  13. I also think Covid amplified the feeling of wanting to play in the US for these American guys. The Canadian border restrictions were strict and it probably made it hard for these guys to see their friends and family. If they were considering leaving Canada before, Covid probably pushed them over the edge.

  14. Did the Leafs learn anything from losing Mats Sundin for nothing.. Matthew's is leaving for fun in the sun bye bye Canada winters

  15. We have 2 seasons left with auston if he leaves it is because of guys like you makeing up bs and toronto media is brutal

  16. I can see him going to LA. By 2024 LA should be one of the top teams. They have good players in there prime like Fiala, Kempe & Danault let alone the stacked young core of Byfield, Clarke, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Pinelli, Durzi, Spence & Fagemo are on the rise slowly but surely. 👀 LA is going after stars from all sports and the Mexican culture is big on sports and if they hear Auston Matthews is on his way, hockey will grow even more out here. LA will be a threat for Auston. It’s an attractive city as is & AZ is only like a 45min flight.

  17. One tell-tale sign is the expression Mathews' face every time he's being interviewed by the Toronto Hockey Press. It's so evident that he can't wait to leave this place. He's just padding his stats while he's here and he will pull in an even bigger pay day when he hits UFA. He's gone and he'll be going to a team that can win, and win often. We learned this from his first year here, he hates to lose.

  18. Yes I'm a leafs fan but he won't leave Toronto unless one of the american teams unless one of the pacific teams gives him a max deal or gives him a huge say in the team decision. I expect him to resign one more time atleast most likely a 2 to 3 year contract at a lower cap hit then everyone thinks to try and add a Leafs ring to his trophy collection.

  19. Matthews is too good for the Leafs and the rest of the team just ain't delivering. If he leaves then Leafs won't have any chance to find a replacement as good. Now with Murray as the starter there's no chance of Leafs getting past first round. So Matthews will be shopping around.

  20. Im sorry but your covid restrictions in Canada are way too harsh i completely understand why they want to leave i dont even want to vacation there anymore!

  21. The sooner the Leafs rid themselves of the 3 girls on their team the better Marner, Nylander and Matthews are soft as little kittens and will NEVER win in the playoffs. you can get away with one of them, but not 3 of them, Get rid of dufus and rebuild. Try drafting some men! not soy-boys.

  22. I would agree to most your points…and without it sounding like Arrogant Torontonian, Toronto is a different city… all do respect, its the fourth biggest market in North America.. I know that pisses people off from the west that’s not my point it just is what it is if they don’t sign Matthews by the end of next season…they have no choice but to trade him but I think he wants to stay here…. And I would add this… luckily Arizona sucks! Because if they were a powerhouse I can see that might be a problem.
