I think that Winnipeg has had some really good drafts over the years, and this one is no exception. Their Achilles heel as a team is that they're far too conservative in roster management, but as far as the drafting alone is concerned, they're very good. I get that Lambert is a controversial player, not dissimilar to Lysell last year, but if he hits, he could really hit.
Also, because I'm a Carolina fan, I have to point this out: if they had kept the #27 pick, would they have been the ones that took the Lambert flyer? I personally agree with them that Kotkaniemi becoming the next Vinny Trocheck or Jordan Staal is the better bet than a late first becoming an NHLer at all, but still, Lambert to Carolina would've been an interesting swing when you consider that they later drafted Gleb/Grudinin+.

They completely sold their first pick at 14th because that was genuinely a bad pick considering the options available but Lambert is anyone’s guess on how good he’ll be.

good work, hat's off to your team… keep it up!! i look forward to the review of the blackhawks. even though i am disappointed with return from the debrincat deal. i do like the hawks first 5 picks very much, and think there's a lot of potential within this group.
Jets had a really good US scout that just left after this season ended – he was apparently involved in some of / most of the Copp, Samberg, Hellebuyck, Roslovic, Trouba, Connor picks – I really hope McGroarty was his kind of Jets swan song pick (I think Nazar was maybe on his list too – which is why him being drafted right before at 13 due to the trade SEEMED to throw Jets off a bit) – If McGroarty was one of his picks then I trust it. And if he wasn't… then at least they got Lambert. 😎😎😎😎 Thank you for your thoughtful analysis again – one of my FAVORITE parts of the draft each year 🙂
