I put the full blame on Maurice for losing us our window. He allowed a certain element to take over the room and he ignored it/let it fester imo. He allowed younger players to be trod upon by others, and then he mishandled them. Then …. HE QUIT. This was all Maurice's doing because HE should have controlled that room. He shirked that responsibility. Good riddance to a coach who didn't do his job properly.

Jets have a talented roster,should be a playoff team.
It's where he was born,raised in Manitoba.
Why he shouldn't…
It's Manitoba,undesirable place to live.
He has other options like Philadelphia,Las Vegas,etc. (Jets do have a more useful roster than those two).
Rumored to return to Nashville (in management position) but today's extension of coach John Hynes might change his mind.
Wheelers gots to go. For this team to proceed. Even Stas said it. Accountability and well wheeler has all the accountability of a squirrel raiding the nut house.
Good discussion. I think any new coach should evaluate what there is to work and who fits into his system.

Why Barry might not want to coach in Winnipeg? If he wins he's a hero, if he loses he's a villain…in his home province, where he'd maybe want to settle in with his roots. Oh, and Barry don't read this comment I AM WRONG
It was obvious that Svechnikov and Harkins had real chemistry. Why they didn't try to put them together more often is beyond me. Look what they did with Copp at centre…of course, that was for one game!
They should have played Harkins more often (in a third line role).

So play his game, pick up the phone and call Carolina to see if they would be interested in Mark Scheifele because Trocheck is leaving in free agency. They have 4 good defenseman, Slavin, Pesce, Skjei, DeAngelo. Obviously you’re rather have one of the top two named if you are giving up 55 but you can find those type of players. Even a Skjei on this Jets blueline under Trotz would be excellent.
“We need a hard hat line”, okay that’s an easy fix…sign Deslauries from Minnesota or call Ottawa and see if they would give up Watson, find you a tougher two way center to play that role and suddenly you have what you are looking for. You could even load up the AHL with guys to replace them with if they are hurt like Witkowski from St. Louis.
Hell who knows, I bet a team like Arizona would take on the Wheeler contract just so they can make the floor easily, you could probably package that into some type of deal if you wanted to target Chychrun.
Turning this group into a Barry Trotz style team isn’t hard, and half the reasons this team didn’t make it is because they also weren’t hard enough. Nobody feared going into the corners agains the Jets, there was no punishment sitting in front of the goalie.
So get Trotz and fix that stuff, the players are all out there and if you wanna play in the central you will absolutely need them. Nashville, Minnesota, and St. Louis are all nasty and hit often. Winnipeg could get two or three guys and be just as nasty. Hell they could even sign former Trotz stud Nick Leddy
I'm a huge Jets fan, and Manitoban. But if you got offered say $5M a season to live in Winnipeg where our tax rate is brutal along with our weather. Or the same $5M with no state income tax, and beautiful weather…. I think I would choose the place I make more money in and don't need to worry about windchill 5 months a year.
