  1. Scouts have said to some teams that Wright is a bit slow as a skater.
They felt that he has to work on a more explosive first step to be a first line center in the NHL.
His hands however are first rate.

  2. Been following the juniors very closely. I get a Jack Eichel type of locker room cancer vibe from this kid. That’s why he didn’t go #1

  3. The experts are not always right. Remember when Nail Yakupov was the consensus first overall . where is he now?

  4. Super happy for the Kraken. A bunch of work to do for years yet to come but there's a foundation under way.

  5. The devils didn’t need a center, I wonder if they tried to trade down some spots or not before picking nemec

  6. Great pick by Seattle getting Wright and I hope they get Bedard at next draft . Funny how grades can be given on teams drafting , lets see in 5 years who the winners were .

  7. The press doesn't run teams. I've never really been convinced that mock drafts are anything more than filler to get people talking about the draft. I think Seattle is a good place for him. I hope he becomes the face of their franchise.

  8. Well montreal drafted themselfs a good old puljujärvi dominated in shitty olympics and in liiga where he didnt doninate 5+5 / just by his size and he fill flop horribly in the small ice and in nhl

  9. I guess Wright showed up 10 minutes late for developmental camp and when asked to play the wing told a Seattle coach he is a center and not a winger.. good start to his career…will not see him in NHL this year as he needs help on his attitude to start off with.

  10. Crazy. Slafkovsky, Nemec and Cooley are fine prospects. I hope they have good, successful careers. But Wright, long term, is going to have a lot of people wondering how the hell Seattle stole him at 4th overall. The chip is real. He is going to be unreal. Likely vie for the Calder next couple years.

  11. I couldn't be happier to have Wright on the Kraken. Someone put it a way that made sense to me, "When you spend several years analyzing someone's game assuming that they will be the #1 pick, you only start to see the small flaws because you have seen the great stuff a million times."

  12. "The Coyotes didn't bother scouting Wright because they were picking at 3" line of thinking is so nonsensical. Arizona was in the bottom 3 teams all season long and the lottery wasn't until May, they would have been scouting Wright long before then. The Coyotes didn't have a crystal ball telling them they were picking 3rd all season and thought Wright wouldn't be there, so why bother. They they just liked Cooley more. I also don't understand why this logic wouldn't apply to Seattle then too, they had less of a reason to think Wright would be there at 4 and still took him.

  13. Anyone who did extensive research on the European leagues, would know that Shane wright wasn’t the better player.

  14. Fact is, Wright didn’t want to go to Canadiens. He made it clear the day before the Draft ,by praising the New Jersey Devils during the last pre draft interview. Unfortunately the Devils already have young talented Centers . Picking the best defenseman was the right move.

  15. I don't know much about Shane Wright, but if management suspects a young player might be arrogant or self-centered its understandable for them not to want to take on a potential future headache. Potential fighting with coaches and / or potential contract holdouts could easily influence a draft decision. Maybe it's not even true. Maybe he turns out to be elite and 100% team oriented. Maybe they all regret it one day. Time will tell. Jonathan Drouin was one of those headaches down in Tampa. I don't know how it worked out with him in Montreal as I don't really follow the Habs.

  16. Okay now I just got done watching an interview with Shane Wright on Youtube through the Sportsnet channel. At the end of the interview he boldly states that he deserves to be the number 1 pick because he is number 1 and he is the best player. There's no doubt in his mind he should be #1 cause he is #1. That right there indicates in a couple years he will consider himself #1 on his new team and people better respect that. Good luck Seattle.
