  1. If you wanna know why he left, watch the handshake line after the Flames were eliminated by the Oilers.

  2. Who knows if he did this to get a guaranteed salary to then be traded somewhere else… its just such a weird signing.

  3. This is 10 times worst than what Tavares did to Long Island. At least PJ went home to Toronto. Johnny scorched the city of Calgary and the flames by taking less money, signing with a non playoff team, threw away the captaincy the flames offered him, and best of all, didn’t go home. That’s just cold

  4. Johnny didn’t want to sign in calgary because he hates Calgary. Plain and simple. His wife hated it here (yes I live in Calgary) and I don’t blame him. Calgary is a dump. There is nothing exciting in the city, downtown is a dump, the roads are always being repaired, high property taxes, no fine cuisine, no good designer shopping. Our best designer boutique Chanel and Gucci is not even an actual boutique but inside Holts which is like a poor man’s version of a designer store. Come on now, if anyone is honest, calgary has nothing going for it except for corruption from past city officials Nenshi, (high property taxes) and poor luxury living. I am in Springbank and even I can’t stomach this rathole of a city

  5. Laine can also play RW, which he has done. We could well see a line of Gaudreau, Sillinger, Laine

  6. Big moves? Like moving out 4 forwards which they'll have to do anyway? I don't think that's an accurate assessment of the situation.

  7. Must be rough being a flames fan knowing the biggest player there doesnt want to stay there rip but tbh watch mcdavid leave after his contracts over

  8. I understand why he left, in every recent playoff year calgary has just totally collapsed. like oilers, they lit them up.

  9. "I don't want to play in Canada anymore, I want to move somewhere with great weather and in the U.S. so I'm moving to…..Ohio". As someone who has relatives in Ohio I'm laughing at his choice to move to the armpit of our country.

  10. Interesting how this would be a good signing for NYI, NJD, PHIL, CAL at the same or higher AAV…..but when he signs with the Jackets it changes. All the sudden it switches to why that contract, why the Jackets, Columbus won’t compete, salary cap issues now, etc. Ridiculous.

  11. Yeah that hurts. Team was coming together. Powerful offense, solid defense, vezina caliber goaltending, excellent coaching. It didn't fall into place for them in the 2nd round but this was a good team. Tkachuk is probably heading out of town too, but at least that will be a trade. Guess the moral of the story is don't draft American players. They're just going to want to go home.

  12. Funny how you had a quip about salaries and deals. I think clb should kick the tires on Bobrovski… IF they could get Florida to retain salary (like 50%) you might be able to get him for practically nothing… ie Patches trade, or Burns for that matter… it's cheaper and shorter duration for Florida and the team who receives Bobrovski would get him at a bargain… can't see Florida digging their feet in the sand for any return… Can you imagine if Edmonton, Toronto, New Jersey, Washington or Ottawa with Bobrovski in net… that would be one tire I kick

  13. What a little puke. I'm not a Calgary fan but I feel for them. They draft the guy and treat him well for 8 years and then he finally lives up to his potential and… he leaves. And it's not like Calgary didn't bend over backwards, offering more money and term. Oh well, he'll probably go back to playing at 2/3 his ability now that he has a long contract so maybe Calgary is better off in the long run.

  14. What a slap in the face to Calgary. Not like he left for a desirable location, or went to an original 6 market for the prestige, or even went to his hometown team. He took less money to leave Calgary for Columbus, lol.

  15. It cracks me up that a lot of ppl think Columbus can win a cup with Johnny "regular season" hockey. Laine and him will never get you a cup. It's just a way to get you to spend your money on regular season games. Calgary was much better than Columbus and we all saw what happened with them. They'll never win a cup with Gaudreau

  16. I like the signing for Columbus, and I think it makes they have some underrated depth up front. Hopefully this signing shows laine that they want to give him help. They still have a lot of work to do on the back end though. I think Johnny Hockey gets 89 points and 37 goals next season with the jackets.

  17. So they have ONE star, and no cap space to get support players. CBJ are fooked. They are so fooked!

  18. Just wait until he gets hit hard and is injured for weeks, they are putting all their eggs in one basket, BAD IDEA!!

  19. Laine is dual-eligible and has played large minutes in the NHL on both sides. LW is his natural side, but he scored massive amounts of goals on the Jets from that RW side. Plan is 100 % to play Johnny and Patty on the same line. Patty was also the only player Johnny talked about when asked about the roster, Kekäläinen no doubt told what the plan is.
