How on earth did this kid slide that far down in the draft… Do GM's really care more about stock, standard low potential players in rounds 5-7? Like most GM's have to know, they probably didn't draft their next star that late in those rounds.. Why in the hell would you not just take the risk on this kid? He's a unicorn, he's literally massive, and as far as I can remember he's always been touted for having great hands, even in his draft year, it was just his skating, people were worried about.. The kid may not become a generational superstar, It's definitely possible, but I FORSURE can see him being a solid 40-70 point getter in the NHL, and at that size, that is unprecedented.
Whenever I watch Soderblom I often think he is the epitome of "Slow is Smooth & Smooth is Fast". I'm not talking about his skating speed necessarily but rather his overall movement patterns seem to have very little "fat" in them. Another example with little "fat" in their movement is Miro Heiskanen.
Both are just so smoothly efficient on the ice & usually don't need to use their explosiveness to beat players, as their transition between movements are so smooth and seamless that you can't predict what's coming next.
(To be clear, I'm not saying he's slow at all. Even a 5'8" player w/NHL-calibre skating technique is decently fast, so adding 12 inches in height should increase a player's speed by orders of magnitude.)
As he approached the net and made his dekes his head was down scary long. Just look at the #85 Toronto player and imagine it was Scott Stevens instead 😯

Freakin giant 😂
My god he's special. 6'8 players have 0 business doing stuff like that.
The SoderBomb
Love me some Soderblom – Devils fan
I mean the deke is pretty normal but ok
godly defence
Kid moves like he’s 5’10”
The new Chara

Here I thought Tage Thompson was the only monster with silky mitts
Elmer makes one move and the defender is a zip code behind him . . .
WTF he looks slightly above average, what's the average height of a Wings forward?!
Gotta love the giants that make nice plays 👌🏼
No
Leafs defense looking good this year 😂
Overrated. Only reason he pulled that goal off is because it was on swiss cheese defense. The dman isnt even an nhl player.
The reach kinda helps duh lol
The NHL website and Hockeydb state that Söderblom is 6'6 but Eliteprospects put him at 6'8…who's lying???
i loved that celly. this kid has swag.
"But in time…he will get his time. If not to start the season. How many forwards does Detroit carry? SCORES!"
Priceless
Dude has been consistent since the year after he was drafted and if he keeps this up why wouldn't he be a fringe Calder nominee?
Imagine this guy in a few years after they get him to put on a little more weight. He'll be a menace if he can keep his speed at that size
Did the red wings change their name font?

That Ent has one hell of a backhand shot.
Dam 6ft8 dudes a beast
His official player page on the NHL website says 6'6".
Needs to be updated.
Shades of Mario on that one, using his reach perfectly. That was a beauty.

This guy is a real-life Be A Pro character
The new "Mule"
Hopefully they don't abuse him into concussion hell, like the first one
He's an interesting player but we'll see how he does against a mean defense.
Omg what the hell 😂
Two facts about this highlight.
Wicked Goal
Moritz Seider looks short compared to Elmer Soderblom
He looks so slow wtf.
It was like slow motion, but it worked. 😊
