  1. I appreciate the idea of this, however after understanding what kevyn adams position is on not using draft capital to rush a rebuild, and how much he values draft picks. I don't think this is a move they are considering, if the right move is there than maybe, but it'd have to be a situation where they aren't giving up a first.

  2. yeah that Dallas goalie is their future, that would be bad blood if he wanted to play for us and he signed an offer sheet. Get them back for the no goal I'm all for it

  3. Oettinger would be the dream scenario. He was unbelievable against a very good Flames offense. I was just in awe of him in game 7. That said, i'd say the chances of it happening are about 0.001% 😂

  4. Not impressed with UPL. Time to cut ties and stop wasting time on him. I think Carolina would move on from Freddy Anderson. Might be a nice fit.
Those offer-sheet options are ok….just ok.

  5. We don't own our 2023 3rd rounder (unless we trade for it from Vegas) so we can only offer between $2.1 – $4.2 or over $10.5.

Georgiev – Like him as a goalie, but not sure about his off ice temperment.
Kahkonen – I think we could get him for less in a trade than offer sheeting him. If we are trading with the Sharks for a goalie, I would be more interested in Reimer.
Samsonov – Probably needs a move from Washington. Would be cheap if we traded for him after his last season.
Vanicek – I think Washington would match a sensible offer sheet as I think Washington are looking to offload Samsonov.
Oettinger – Dallas would be mad not to match an offer sheet. I think lots of teams will be speaking to his agent on free agent day if he is not signed by then. Oettinger will cost us more than $4.2M so the lack of a 3rd rounder rules us out.

  6. I respect your grind Wayne. Draft picks are gold for a small market team; offer sheets are a big gamble.
    Draft and develop! Levi /Portillo
Poach goalies another way no high picks.
Bargain bin signings until draftees are ready .

  7. Wayne the Mane is correct. The Sabres have a dire need in net. Levi or Portillo (or both) might never sign with the Sabres but even if they did they will need a few seasons to be effective for a full season. Jake Ottenger would be a initial sticker shock with acquisition cost but a 1st & 3rd for a now established starting goaltender is not a overpayment at all. Levi can always sign & set us up beautifully in net for almost 6 seasons. 5 or 6 years at $6.2mil per is my offer sheet for Jake Ottenger. A potential darkhorse for Buffalo could be Billington in a trade but also a Vanecek trade. The others would be options if other trades or initial moves don't come to fruition. Great video Wayne the Mane 👍

  8. Roam, can you make a video on how every team in each state got its name?

  9. For me, the target would have to have shown that they are a significantly better option than UPL. The only guy that may fit in that category is Oettinger. Personally, I like the Kemper option the best if they have soured a little on UPL, otherwise I would be happy starting the season with Anderson and UPL. Like you said, we will have to put a premium on drafting a goalie until we get that long term answer. Having our two top prospects as University players puts us in a precarious position until they are signed.

  10. I prefer to develop goaltenders from within the organization. Look at the goalies who have changed teams. How many of them were stellar for more than a season or two? Whatever we'd spend for a goalie would be too much. Since the better goalies seem to come from Russia and Scandinavia, I'd scout those countries and get kids who are under the radar.

  11. none but fun too think about!!! and if the sabres where too do it I would only do it too teams in my division since u try not too trade in your division anyway

  12. Wayne, I know you are our objective reporter, but could you list 1 to 8 who you HOPE with the Cup of Stanley?

Here are my top 8 favorites:
    1. Lightning (Tampa Bay, small market, I am hoping they soon tie the Canadiens record of 24 Stanley Cups LOL)
    2. Canes (What else does Carolina have going for it and I love D'Angelo, I wish he was a Sabre)
    3. Blues (Ryan O'Whiner)
    4. Avs (Not a fan of Kadri, I really am not, and he's a former Leaf!)
    5. Panthers (I hate the Miami Dolphins and it carries over to the Panthers)
    6. Rangers (I root against the rich teams that load up on Free Agents)
    7. Edmonton (I hope for Canada to extend its 28 consecutive no Cup streak, but golly I love McDavid, he's much better than Eichel, he really is)
    8. Calgary (No goaler wearing 25 should ever be allowed to hoist the Cup of Stanley)

  13. Would not make any offer sheet. Keep the picks instead, be patient with our prospects and land a UFA that makes sense or trade smart.

  14. In my eye, the "rebuild" is nearly over, and getting a goalie who can keep up with the rest of the team is job #1 for Adams!

  15. I still don't know much about Subban, other than his singing voice. Assuming GM Adams acquires a number one goalie, is Subban the answer at the back-up spot?

  16. Offer sheeting a player would be very bad for this organization down the road. We have way too many young players that a GM could offer sheet when that time comes simply for retaliation. IMO you don’t put yourself in that situation when you’re building a team like the Sabres are. I’d be extremely disappointing to see Adams use this as a way to get a goalie. Especially for guys that “Aren’t that exciting” as you said.

  17. At this point I don't think you can wait to see if any of our young goalies are destined to be a number 1. UPL can't stay healthy and you don't know what Levi and Portillo are thinking about signing. You have 3 first rounders and a bevy of prospects. Use them to trade for a goalie with some term. I'd go after Gibson from anaheim. 28 years old. 4 years left at 6.4 million.

  18. Just to paraphrase Kevyn Adams words – when he was asked about acquiring new players he said that he is looking for a right players with a good attitude who will help the team not only on the ice but off the ice too, he is looking for a role models – simply being a good team mate.
Anderson exceeded his role with his attitude and a way he interacted with a team and youngsters, that's why they want him back so badly despite of his age.
They will be looking for these qualities in somebody else if Anderson retires.

  19. If I remember good Seattle took Vanecek in an expansion draft and Washington made sure they got him back with the first opportunity they got – there is a reason behind it.
He is a goalie with a big frame just coming into his own, he spent few seasons in Hershey and working on his game, he is a direct product of Mitch Korns goalie school.
I could see him as a best option considering he is just 26 and right now he is venturing the age where goalies and all the " latebloomers " are starting to perform at the highest level.

  20. Sabres have to stay open to any and all ideas about goal tending. UPL is out more than he is healthy. Missing a playoff run in the AHL! Goalies on IR aren’t helping the club. Adams will chart the course of the team, with this move to get goaltending. He has made solid acquisitions so far, and I think he will continue to work on building a contender. Let’s go Buffalo.

  21. The cost of our 1st & 3rd for a franchise goalie is well worth it. If they didn't match our offer sheet the 9th overall is very fair compensation for Jake Ottenger. I can see GMKA doing it or not doing it. But where our franchise Is at this very moment this offer sheet (If it isn't matched) would help solve our only remaining hole on our roster. Even going to the next level compensation should be considered. There is a lot of strong offensive teams in the East & Ottenger will definitely help us in a playoff series against those teams.
The Sabres offering sheeting Jake Ottenger ($6.2mil to $6.5mil per x5/6yrs).
Kris Letang (3 years at $5mil per with a $7.5 million signing bonus) easier to move on from him with half retained if he is still effective.
Resigning Vinnie to 2 or 3 years at around $1.5mil per.
The Sabres can afford Letang because after next season over $8 million dollars is off our cap. According to the NHLPA the salary cap is expected to go up around $4 million per season around 2024/25.
I wouldn't go beyond 2 or 3 years on a Victor extension at this time.

  22. Good content Wayne. The Sabres franchise has a history of success mainly because Buffalo always had good goaltending specifically the period after the 1975-76 season. GM Punch Imlach, having seen Parent beat the Sabres in the '75 finals, drafted both Edwards and Sauve in 1975. From 1976 to the time Miller was traded in 2014, the Sabres were solid in goal most of the time. UPL is a good prospect but can the big guy stay healthy? I'm not confident. Adams should bring someone in and give the team better goalkeeping. The Sabres have three 1st round picks this year. Maybe it's time.

  23. I'm not big on signing a goalie for alot of money……last goalie we had that made decent money was Miller…….where did he lead us to ? I'm very glad they didn't sign Ullmark to a big contract.

  24. Great video, I would love to get a good goalie for this season, but the main RFA that I would want to go after if we are giving up our first rounders is Kirby Dach, I really think he would fit well on this squad and he would help beef up our top six and would give cozens the versatility to play the wing if need be

  25. I would be willing to give up a lot to get oetenger. He is a playoff stud. That guy and a decent backup puts us in the playoffs this year.

  26. Offer sheeting is a terrible idea. Not worth it especially with all the young talent we have. Look at Montreal with Kotkaniemi

  27. Adams is not a bold GM…he mentioned they are happy with in house goalies going forward…don’t see him making any big moves for a goalie…

  28. I'd only do an offer sheet to Oettenger but Dallas would no doubt match it, they'd be crazy to let him go.
I think the Sabres best choice for a goalie for next season is to go after Jack Campbell of the make me laughs . Yes the Sabres have Portillo and Levi in their system,, but they haven't signed yet and they would need at least a year in the AHL .I feel Adams could get him by offering him a 4 year contract . This way Adams saves his draft picks .

  29. I like grabbing that Stars Goalie Oettinger…$6 mil should do it. We’ve got Levi in the wings…Let’s Go!!

  30. Yeah we need Ottinger, I want him badly Wayne! Imagine him and Levi in a few years if he stays with us, oh my
