The real reason Phil wouldn't come to Chicago: #81 is about to be retired. He doesn't want to break his Ironman record wearing some other number. But seriously, I would've loved for Kessel to sign with the Hawks, too. I share the same contempt for Vegas as Mario and Greg, so this hurts a little. Oh well. Hopefully, the Universe will make up for it come draft time.
Toews is perpetually pissed. I respect what he's done for the team over the years, and as a Canadian, what he's contributed to Canada in international play. But with all due respect to him, I'd not be blowing through Kleenex boxes if he got traded. He's been pouting for the last several years, and maybe lost the idea that you play for what's on the front of the jersey and not what's on the back. He was once the poster boy for that, but Kaner's passed him in that regard. Patrick Kane has earned that C over the last couple of years. It sounds like he might never wear it, given trade rumours, but he's carried himself as a good leader in his own right. And not so much as a hint of whining. If he wants to stay here and go after Mikita's records (Stan Mikita was my hero growing up) then sign him to an extension and give him the C. Toews will be gone anyways, one way or another. Mikita was the team captain when he retired. Should Kane choose to, I believe he will be captain of the Hawks when he retires with those records in hand.
I can't keep up with all the podcasts/Youtube shows…in OFFseason!
