This is classic example of what happens when an owner signs 2 above average players (Suter & Parise) to ridiculous contracts. Few players can play at a high level for 10 years at the ages they were signed. If you win a cup or two it looks great. If not, it's usually not good and this was bad. Billy G has to clean up the mess. He probably got the best deal he could considering every team knew the Wild couldn't resign Fiala. Great trade for him and will have to wait and see on the return. It's not about getting to the playoffs; it's about winning the cup.

Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Walker, Spence, Grans, Clarke. Faber is gonna be good but it’s a position of strength. Looks like he wasn’t gonna sign anyway. The pick likely doesn’t make an impact for 2-3 years. No brainer for LA.
Return seems pretty underwhelming, a mid-2nd rnd prospect and a late-mid 1st rounder. I'm wonder if the Kings lowballed the Wild, knowing Fiala would only sign a longterm contract in LA, and wasn't interested in the Sens or the Devils?
No wonder Fitzgerald didn’t get a deal done that is too much of a cap hit but more or less they probably wanted the 2nd overall pick for him. Too much.
Islanders could have really been benefited by this player, but Lou would not have given him the contract that the Kings gave him.

I am shocked by this on so many levels. Fiala is just entering his prime and that's all Guerin could get? The Kings have the best prospect pool in hockey and they couldn't get another good piece out of them? I was sure Fiala was headed to Ottawa.

I'm glad the Wild didn't give Fiala $7.9M. Pretty streaky goal scorer and didn't really get going last year till Boldy arrived and put on a disappearing act in the playoffs. Rossi/Boldy will be just as good as combo than Fiala/Boldy. After adding another D-prospect when they were already stacked, Dumba should be the next to go. Kind of underwhelming trade at the moment, but Guerin has made some smart moves and I trust him enough to make the right decision at the draft.
Now let's see the Redwings trade Bertuzzi to LA for 1 of there top center prospect and pic or another prospect

I/m a 48 year Kings fan. I'm concerned with the length of the contract as well as the size. He becomes among the top paid forwards, short of Kopitar, BEFORE scoring his first goal. As I understand it as well, 20212-22 was a breakout year for him. What happens with a slump and the no-trade guarantees. Blakey gave away too much this time.

For the people talking about the contract, don’t forget the cap is going up about $1 million per year until 2025, and then there will be a big increase. The era of the stagnant cap is over.
Wild just got fleeced
I like the trade I just don’t like the money because I think we have players coming up to provide the same offence upside for a cheaper hit looks like we got brownies money and so how do we spend it? Also what does this mean kempe is worth 7.5? Not the same points totals but goals are the same 33 and 35 respectively I just don’t want us a year or two in minnesotas position where not that the first and faber was nothing to give up but for fiala it seems like it was. Conclusion I like the trade I like fiala I just hope the cap doesn’t hurt us in a few years will just have to see what Blakey does next because only name I’ve heard is ai next to move to free some cap
Great trade for LA. The Kings have needed a sniper like him for awhile.

For that term and $, I’m glad Ottawa didn’t get him. I am really hoping they go after Debrincat though. They have that 7th overall, 2nd round pics, and some good prospects along with Connor Brown which should be able to get a deal done.
Any idea what happened to the Devils in all this? Geurin and Fitzgerald are friendly, the 19th pick is ok and the prospect is decent but nothing the Devils couldn't match. Any news?
