@Maple Leafs de Toronto

    Seems pretty reasonable

    Thanks for everything Simmer, but your lasting memory will always be the fact that the dubie kid smoked the fattest j and believed you were a better signing than Corey Perry

    whos got a young D man who has underperformed?

    Maybe a 2 for 1 swap? Simmonds + AHL guy for waiver eligible D? Gives us abit more contract flex

    Simmers time as a Leaf was mostly mediocre with a few fun moments. I hope he had an opportunity to continue his NHL career elsewhere.

    He deserves another look.

    I will miss Simmonds, and at the very least we need someone similar to him to be able to go up and down the lineup as needed. Honestly he’d fit right in for this Montreal game.

    You know their going to try and run us.

    Everything was going well, right up until he hurt his wrist. Couldnt find it after that.

    I actually found he’s been pretty fast and can still throw a hit on the forecheck. The big thing is his shot isn’t dangerous anymore (probably lost power after the wrist injury). He’s still good at net front, but the 4th line is usually busy cycling behind the net and in the corners and his line usually never keeps possession long enough to get it back to the D and give him time to get in front. He also doesn’t win as many puck battles as the guys in our current bottom six. Clifford passed him in the depth chart last season IMO.

    I said this in another thread but I simply don’t think Simmonds is going to get moved any time soon.

    Simmonds wants to play in the NHL, if a team had a guaranteed NHL spot for him they would have taken him on waivers. But they didn’t.

    Him being waiver exempt after trade makes him easier to trade now. However the whole reason a team would take him is the ability to send him down.

    Knowing all this information it means Simmonds is going to be in the AHL, split time between the AHL and NHL or be forced to retire if he refuses to play in the AHL. If I’m Simmonds and the reality is that I’m going to have to play AHL games this year I’m staying in Toronto because at least I’m in my home town and a big market (the same one as the big club). The last thing I’d want is to be traded and split time on a bottom dwelling team in a small market and an even smaller market AHL team location.

    Unless they find a team that can assure a full NHL roster spot in the few first weeks (injury being a big factor here) I think we will see Simmonds either retire or play with the Marlies.

    I know how intensely he wants to play in Toronto and he tried his best, so I hope it works out for him and he can go out on his terms.

    I wish there was still the taxi squad, he’d be perfect in that kind of role. The taxi squad system was a step in the right direction for the NHL and of course, they felt the need to remove it lol.
