disclaimer: i am enormous fan of Travis Sabheim’s game
This is the classic Fletcher extension, 2 years too long, half a mill too much.
I simply don’t understand how you can lose on money **AND** term, *every, single time.*
I mean, it’s about what he’d get on the open market, but… why? A strong need to be even closer to the cap ceiling for the next few years?
Iâm surprised sanheim even agreed to this contract, how as a player and after what youâve experienced/seen would you want an 8 year deal. I like Sanheim but 8 years is too long and thatâs too much for what heâs actually producing.
I know hockey players get these long contracts but 8 years to me is just way too fucking long to guarantee a contract to someone.
My take on this goes basically like this:
* Sanheim’s a fantastic #3 defenseman that could possibly be a #2
* This is a contract you give your #2 defenseman. Proverov is currently the Flyers #2 defenseman
* They’re almost certainly moving Proverov with this signed, which will also open the 2nd LHD slot for young players, as the Flyers are loaded in that slot (York, Zamula, and the prospect Emil Andrae)
* Unless Sanheim falls off a cliff in terms of his play (A significant concern), then the price is fine. But this contract runs until he’s 34, which is pretty concerning. As a 5 year deal, I could easily get behind this, as an 8 year I’m at least slightly concerned
Years of Hextall shedding contracts for Fletcher just do up us back up. 5 years away from being 5 years away
Long Term but he keeps showing poise and improvment.
Graded out pretty high last year
Sanhiem is a good player, not an 8 year contract good enough player though.
Iâll be 41 when this ends. I feel old.
Barf
Seems like a deal you make if you’re moving Provy
Huge fan of Sanheims but I can’t really understand this. Good AAV, stupid term. He’s not a franchise player and committing that much term to a 2nd pair dman is stupid. Especially when Hayes and Couturier are locked up on what seems like they might turn into bad contracts.
Perfect timing.
I think Sanheim is about to hit another level. He is a freak of nature athlete with excellent skill and game sense. If he keeps improving his aggression and decisiveness then this contract has the potential to be godly for the Flyers.
Provyâs last season in orange and black, me thinks.
Donât hate it at allâŠ. But WHY?!?!?
Chuckie and Travis, please make me eat my words, but Jesus Christ that’s too fucking long. Aav is fine but my god 8????
I mean, he’s possibly our best D, which both means he probably deserved the payday and that we are in an innumerable amount of trouble as a team for a number of years to come. đ€·
I’ll go with « happy for him, can’t see how this hurts us more than anything else we’ve done in the last x years » on this one.
