  1. Springer was absolutely supposed to be the young team's tentpole. The problem? A spectacular, 3-ring circus need THREE tentpoles. And, right now, the Jays need to find a 99+ tentpole to pitch them out of bases-loaded jams.

  2. I'd be willing to trade Bichette, Kirk and Hernandez for a big change up. They need changes in hitting and pitching coaches.

  3. Don't remember the season but it was before they won it, and they had 7 games left in the season and to make the playoffs and they had to win only ONE of those games. They hit a skid of 7 games. That was more painful than this one.

  4. Guys, it was one game. Come on. The Yanks were up 3-0 on Boston and in game 4 Boston came back from a 10-0 deficit. How did the Yanks feel when Boston won the next 3, and then won it all? Did they explode the team? No. It happens. You blow-up a team that makes the playoffs you are nuts, or an amateur, or a really bad decision maker. Baseball is a hot and cold game for all teams. Yanks sucked through much of the last half of the season after builiding up a huge lead. It happens. What you do is build up what you have, not tear down a playoff team. Come on. Get real.

  5. Remember these are the two guys who unceremoniously fired Charlie Montoya for the betterment of the team?
Now,Charlie and his fans are having the last laugh.

  6. I’m a Yankees fan but I really like watching the Jays — really fun team to watch. I’m shocked at the fans who want to trade Bo. The lineup is great. But the team needs to add some fire to that bullpen and need a #3 starter. Berrios is terrible. Improve the pitching asap and that team will be elite next year.

However if you want to trade Bo, we’ll gladly take him on the Yankees.

  7. You should have spent ZERO time "stewing here". Sid is exactly right. There needs to be a team shake-up, only because the team won't do the right thing and get rid of Shapiro and Atkins. This team has no "killer instinct" because they have taken some of the best athletes in the draft or by trade or free agency, who are all NICE GUYS. Get rid of the nice guys and get hold of a few nasty Pete Rose types.

  8. Its gonna be the same old dog and pony show with the Jays organization that was the same when Ballard ran the show in the 70's and 80's……………..!!!!!!

  9. Let's put it into perspective … Did the Jays really blow it ? They blew the game but there still would have been a game 3 to play . If this was game 3 then it would have really been a disaster .

  10. Feels like that scene in Moneyball where Brad Pitt smashes the stereo and asks the clubhouse if losing's fun before trading people off. #mailbag

  11. Atkinson failed the team. I don’t understand why he is considered untouchable?

  12. I think a Kawai Leonard for us isn’t going to help us. Look at Mike trout on the angels. How many playoffs have they been too. We need to fix our bullpen. We honestly haven’t had one good bullpen since shatkins has been here. We also keep making dumb pitching signings like tanner roark Garcia in 18 chase anderson and now Kikuchi. We are trying to find bargain guys in hopes we get better out of them. It’s not working!

  13. With Sid at the helm of the oilers in the 80’s , the team would have been broken up after the miracle loss in LA, every good team needs to lose first, last yr’s team only established itself when the pitching sorted itself out, If they falter again then maybe, or if they make a habit of losing 8-1 leads. They are not the Leafs … yet

  14. I think it's somewhere in the middle. The core is talented enough and is only NOW having playoff failure to learn from. I think minor changes need to happen, but the core 4-5 should remain.

  15. In regards to Sid's comment about serious players last year I remember watching an episode somewhere that compared the then 2021 Blue Jays to the 2015 Blue Jays and how close both teams were in terms of stats. The thing is though the 2015 team was a serious team. Yes they still had fun moments but when it came to work they came to work. That's why they managed to go on a deep playoff run and just came short of reaching the World Series. The current roster can learn a thing or 2 from the 2015 roster. Hell they can learn a thing or 2 from the 92 & 93 teams. And on a side note the 2019 Raptors never celebrated their Finals wins until it was all over and look what the result was. Yes there are times where you can have fun but when it comes to playoff baseball you gotta put that aside and focus on winning.

  16. How can you control a perfect storm. Only some of it but not a blooper in the middle of the outfield and shortstop ( 3 runs). How can you control Mayza allowing a huge 3 run HR ? If you kept Gausman and he did the same thing then what? It is all circumstantial. How about the Mariners Manager sending Ray in the 9th with the Astros in Game 1 to get left vs left matchup how did that go? I disagree the Jays need a rebuild as they are almost there. If we can get a solid starter and a few quality bullpen pitchers we should be good enough for another Go! Until then go watch 92 and 93 highlights.

  17. Blue Jays have horrible situational hitting. Everyone swings for the fences and that can win you some games but when things gets tight i don't see them winning alot of the times. Also, Romero gives up way too many hits. He comes in and it's a double off the bat. Obviously he still has alot of saves but we saw this game 2 he comes in and just can't pull it off

  18. The whole "let the kids play" mentality has to go, in my opinion. Hitting bombs and wining games should be business as usual with a team of that talent. The "kids" weren't mentally prepared for a big series. I'd like to see Atkins bring in a manager who'll foster a more serious competitive attitude and get rid of that damn jacket.

  19. The past does not equal the future, ask the Montreal Canadians if you don’t believe me 😊

  20. What is the definition of insanity again? Oh you dont know? Ask a Leaf and Blue Jay fan.
    Stop the insanity.

  21. Most important thing for the Jay's is Vlady dancing in the dugout……Time to show some maturity and professionalism

  22. They need to trade Kirk or Jansen, they should have done it at the deadline but failed. i think Kirk is a more valuable trade piece that we can get some good arms for

  23. That click shit on the right corner of the dogout must end. Who's gonna do it? A old old manager who wouldn't give a rat's about what those clown players think. John Schneider isn't gonna do it. He's another Montoyo trying to be friends with those players. When the dam click ends then a chip a possible.

  24. Explain why the Mets and Cards lost Sid. Remember the Warriors were banged up vs the Raptors won the championship.

  25. I mean say what you will about sid but, he's not wrong here. You can okay boomer me all you want (not a boomer btw) but they spent way to much time dancing around with that god damn jacket than mentally preparing to close out playoff games. You need guys that can make those plays when you need it, pitchers than can close out and save games, get on base with consistency, and the list goes on. Was a fun season to watch and an awesome end of season push but, there's a lot of ground to cover, including some improvement between the ears if they have deep playoff aspirations.

  26. To me the reason they lost was pulling the pitcher when he is rolling. I know the pitchers arent" allowed" to pitch more than 6 innings(ridiculous to me, analytics isnt always correct) . Im not the biggest baseball fan but im old enough to remember what it was like back in the day. If a pitcher is playing that well and its a must win, you keep him in imo

  27. I rate management for remaking the Leafs after years of Harold Ballard and the Blue Jays after the glory days of the 90s. However, man oh man. So much talent and flop, flop, flop, year after year. It's a shame. A real shame. Like 8-1 loss, are you serious? And how cant the Leafs win one playoff series after earning 115 points? Regular season greatness is no longer good enough…they need to pull a Masai already.

  28. Living through a war, organically hardens you. They died on the vine. Losing an 8-1 lead destroys you mentally.

  29. I'd like to hear from a former Blue Jays player from the glory days. Any chance of setting up an interview with a player who was on one of the World Champion teams or even from the George Bell era? Bisons coach Devon White might be the most accessible. If he enjoys the interview, he may even put you in touch with former teammates.

  30. Problem with a guy like Sid is he will be a blow hard but won’t give you a solution. What’s the shakeup. Trade our young guys? Fire Shapiro? That’s not going to make the team better. Adding not subtracting is what needs to be done. If you watched this team all year, you knew this team was flawed. Let’s keep adding.

  31. I can’t help but think about Verlander. I read somewhere about how close he was to signing with the Jays but ended up signing with the Astros. He’s the type of guy they need in that clubhouse, and as good as Schneider is, he’s just not that dude, so something needs to change there as well. And yes it’s time to trade a big name for pitching depth because they’re headed to nowheresville fast with that starting rotation and bullpen. As good as Gausman and Manoah are, it’s just not enough, and the bullpen is only good enough to be an above 500 team, not a championship one.

  32. No focus
    No situational hitting
No swing and miss stuff in bullpen
No one wants to hit singles
    No one cares about winning
It’s like T-ball, kids just want
    the snacks and drinks after
    the game.

  33. Throw that stupid home run jacket in the garbage and learn how to play small smart baseball, learn how to bunt, steal. Celebrating a home run means nothing if your bowing out in a wildcard game at home. Time to play like men not boys

  34. Let the kids grow. Knee jerk reaction can cause the Jays to trade someone like Bichette and another team getting a player that learned his knocks with the Jays to become a better player next year. Why trade them? Let your investments reap rewards in Toronto not for some other team you traded them too. Has happened many time. Front office is patient anyway so no core player going anywhere except maybe one of Teoscar/Guerril Jr and a catcher.

  35. Have to admit…Sid is right. The ending to this past season is way worse than the end of the 1985 and 1987 teams. 1986 and 1988 were hangover years. We don't want 2023 to be like this.

  36. i think we need to take a step back from saturdays loss and see if this team grew from last season. we lost pieces. we added pieces. did injuries affect us (lourdes, springer). injuries are part of the game. nobody was listening to montoya, but did Schneider do too much in changing that game saturday? taking gausman out with a 8-2 lead with two out in the 6th, was a bad move. but more collapse happened after that.

end of day, players have zones of coverage. bo was trying to do everything himself past the infield instead of allowing the incoming outfielder control of the play. again, the jays at home in a three game series is bad. if we would have been the underdog road team i think would have been a better scenario. less pressure. i know baseball is a game of luck and pendulum shifts.

changes for next season? you need a better 4th outfielder than what we have. do we need a second baseman? 4th and 5th starter? someone to bridge garcia to romano? tweeks need to be done. culture has to be adjusted. remember, the best players on the team are still 5-6 years from hitting their prime. question is, who do you trade? who do you get? who do you give up on? vlady, bo and alek are gonna get huge raises. salary will become an issue. you strip the team down to build it up but did you give big contracts to the wrong guys? lots of questions.

  37. Sid is 100% right. People write him off as a "hot take artist" but everything Sid said is true. The disappointing thing is that there won't be any major changes and Toronto fans tend to accept mediocrity.
