  1. Kings don't have additional 3 to 4 more before contending. Kings need LHD,Top 6 FWD and toughness. Kings need to move some RHD propects to fill holes and by FA.. Peterson needs to go and is overepaid currenly.

  2. I kind of expected them to make the playoffs. I didn't expect them to do it with 11 rookies down the stretch and 9 in the playoffs but crap happens.

In the rebuild they started with hording draft picks and selling off their best assets. They also started 3 years ago implementing a new system throughout the franchise. 2 years ago they began using groomed players and tested their system. It lasted most of the season but needed more work.

Last season their goal was to continue to test the pipeline and play well for longer stretches than in season 2. They fully expected to make the playoffs.

Next season i expect them to build on that as the pipeline has gained valuable experience. They will make the playoffs and will look be a threat once the playoffs start. Maybe not a fullblown contender, but be a serious threat.

Once these younger players get closer to their prime years you will see LA transform.

  3. The team has to shuffle the deck a little because their prospects are clustered together in the same age range and you can't fit all of them into the same lineup. You have to put some years between them so openings on the roster come up at the same time they're ready to step into the NHL.

Barring trade you're looking at 5 youngsters at forward next year with Kaliyev, Byfield, Kupari,, Vilardi, and Anderson-Dola. The latter I believe will no longer be waiver exempt starting next year. 5 out of 12 active forward slots to essentially "rookies" is going to be tough.

Their prospects are almost entirely defensive-minded guys on the left side except for Kim Nousiainen, which is a problem as all the puck moving ability is coming from the right side of the ice so defenses can cheat and cut the ice in half and dare the Kings to make plans with their lefties.

Out of Anderson, Bjornfot, and Moverare at the NHL-level the one that has shown the most confidence with the puck on his stick is Anderson, which is underwhelming.

If they stick to their lefty-righty pairing approach who are they sitting or trading out of Doughty, Roy, Walker, and Durzi?

With Iafallo struggling it was a hodgepodge on leftwing next to Kopitar and Kempe. Does Iafallo get another shot or does someone else slide in?

Peterson is 28 already so he doesn't have the longest runway for staying in the NHL, but the next man up in net is unclear in Ontario with Vilalta having to go through waivers next year to go to the AHL.

They tried to trade back into the 1st round to take Wallstedt so they're not fully confident in what they already have, which says a lot about their pipeline situation in goal.

They have a lot of decisions to make.

  4. Good takes and I follow the Kings very closely. I think you overstated Cal Petersons status to date, but the rest was pretty spot on.

  5. Kings need LHD & more toughness after getting Fiala, plus they need Avalanche to drop off, in order to make the Finals in next 1-3 years. I want to trade a pick, Iafallo & his $4m contract & 1 prospect for Chychrun this Summer!

  6. Could you Immagine if they unloaded guys like Kopitar, Brown, DOughty , IaFallo, Quick Get as many 1sts and young players as they can , This team isalready stacked for the future. Its insane.

  7. For some reason I get just a bit nervous when Peterson is in net, I don’t know if it’s because he’s a left handed goalie but it always looks like he’s scrambling as opposed to just being in position. When Quick is in there it’s like having a 3rd defenseman back there, I know the last few years prior to last season Quickie wasn’t playing up to his potential maybe he was still hurt but he wasn’t the same. When they played Edmonton in this 1 st round had they not been intimidated by McDavid, Draisaitl & Kane I think they would have made it to the second round. JMO….

  8. They need one more skilled forward, but he must be also tough. I'm not happy with the lack of true physicality throughout the entire team. That's not going to get them through playoffs.
They have lots of skill in pipeline but the physicality and grinding style is needed for the team to win.
You have to be able lock it down in critical moments of playoffs, and that's never done with skills.
Everyone is excited about Kings chances for the future but until this part of the game is addressed, they don't stand a chance. Second round maybe but no further

  9. Bright enough to be snuffed out by the mighty oilers. Kings have no superstar. Mediocrity awaits

  10. Mark my words the L.A. Kings will be in the Connor Bedard sweepstakes. They traded for Fiala but dude blew his load last year and everyone comes to the Kings and their offense dries up. This team is soft as butter and another year older. No way they make the playoffs.
