I always have trouble rating goalies, correct me if im wrong, but its important to have a goalie with strong reactions (often a bit smaller goalie) if a team allow high danger scoring chances on the rush. If the team is strong defensively and structured, they look for big goalies who are stronger positionally. So with how i see it, Samsonov might be the better fit for the Leafs. I am just hockey fan from Denmark, I am not super knowledgable, but i would like to hear if you can follow my line of thought.
Murray needs to retire anyways. Samsonov will hold it down.

I loved Jack in net for the Leafs. He was a great presence in the locker room too. But 5×5 on a below .900% goalie that has never played more than 52 games in a season? I just don't see that value. Maybe $3.5×3 or $3.5×4.
I don't think it's that contentious, to be honest. Everyone knew he was going to leave after the playoffs. Just seemed to be known, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. I think Edmonton will get a good 2 years out of him and will have to deal. OR, Jack is just pissed off now with a chip on his shoulder so he stands on his head. We'll see.
I love Samsonov and Matt Murray tandem. I'm sad to see MM go down so early, but hey, that's the business. And he has been a good presence in net too. Sammy is proving his worth though. He might let in a goal or 2 but he seems to shut it down after that. Will have to see how he does against teams like Carolina and the Rangers.

I love Jack, but there was no way after the second half of last season they could give him anything north of 5 million or basically any term. He's either amazing or the worst goalie in the league. Just couldn't risk it. I wish him well in Edmonton, but they need to lower their expectations.

Watching the Oilers vs Calgary last night clearly pointed out why the Leafs didn't try harder to retain Campbell.probably Edmonton is having somebody's now too.
I think MM was a mistake, lets say he statistically is better the jack does it matter if he's always injured? Bud misses more time then a coma patient. If we were going to lose JC anyway I think MM was not the step forward we needed, but I guess we will see
