  1. Would've been nice to play Skinner last season so we knew what we had. He may very well be our best goalie, and perhaps a legit #1 guy. He looked good in relief.

  2. I must concur with this stink it up hypothesis. The force was strong with Vladar. Skinner and Hyman were the best oilers on a night where most of the team looked like walk of the living dead until the 3rd. And again, Koskinen I'd bet is happy to have avoided the grief he'd be facing if it was him in goal.

  4. So five more years of vegetable soup at over five million per.
    Nice one Holland.

  5. We're all doomed. Another wasted season. If we only had 81 games to go… Bad contracts everywhere. Move the franchise.

  6. Meh, stupid loss but it's only 1-1-0 of a 82 game season.

Skinner got a shut out against them. Powerful statement, hopefully the right people are paying attention.

  7. Poor starts has plagued this team for years. JW really turned that piece around last year but the boys are again free wheeling and not following the plan. Of course its only game 2 but 2 in a row where the game does not start after 1 period. Great cast boys

  8. Very discouraging game. Soft goals and a soft start. Skinner was the one bright light. But the Oilers were out played in every department. Power play, penalty kill, goaltending, defense, offense. That's pretty much the game of hockey and Calgary was the better team in every way.

  9. We just have got to start better.
We forget, that the flames are excellent at fore-checking, that's why we were down 1:4 including 3 of the 4 flames goals from lucky situations.
Gotto bring your A-game vs the flames, and we didn't.
Dunno, why they didn't know that, that is the disturbing thing.

  10. Skinner extends his shutout streak from the end of last year. I thought for sure Bruce would mention that.
The D are looking soft but they're also having a hard time moving the play up the ice. There have been a lot of plays that have been picked off creating opportunities for the other team.

  11. So tired of this team unable to show up on time…. this is a bad habit that stretches back too far

  12. Alright Woody, let's not get fired now! He's been holding short practices. Maybe that's a good idea later in the season after all the reps have been put in and they've battled through a lot of games and need rest. But just after summer when they're fresh and a little rusty? And on this long home stand?
There are thousands of different variables a coach can tweak in the way they practice. Two starts in a row like this make me point to the way they're practicing.

  13. The D’s struggling again. But the fact they were able to come back (again) and almost tied the game speaks to the quality this team has.

  14. Doesn't matter if it's game two, 2 points at the start of the season is the same as at the end. These 3 games against the Flames are 4-pointers, and could decide first place. Unless the Oilers keep stinking it up, then no worries. I'd have told them to imagine it's game 82 and they're playing to earn home ice advantage. Wakey wakey.

  15. The Oilers looked like they've never heard the term "box out". That means getting your feet and butt, not just a flailing stick, between an attacker and the goalie. Bruce, it's not a problem that Murray didn't sweep the puck away — but he should have tied up the attacker to allow his 'tender (as you know) take care of the puck. Instead he overskated his position and put his feet behind the net. A defender has a relatively lower chance of knocking a pinballing puck out of the slot but a much better chance of successfully neutralizing a player in a high danger zone. Play the body first, it's slower and bigger than the puck.

  16. This being game 2 and all, I don’t want to act like the sky is falling, but we’ve seen these old habits of not showing up in the first period, Is it that the team just can’t start on time or is our D just not good enough? 🤔

  17. Skinner played really well but toffoli hit 2 posts, dube hit a post and ceci blocked a for sure goal after the goalie switch so he played well for sure but he could have easily let in 2 or 3 also

  18. That’s was a sloppy slow uncoordinated hockey I’ve seen in awhile. Yikes ! Skinner and Hyman played great.

  19. I would like to see them go back to 11 and 7. Murray became more interesting as the game went along, including that assist on McLeod's goal, and I think he should be given another shot before he gets pulled out.

  20. Get rid of Murray. 6th dmen shouldnt be makingn so many mistakes.

  21. Mccurdy needs to stop using the “ice was bad” excuse. That applies to both teams so it equals out.
