1. Trading Varly at the deadline only makes sense if the Isles are out of the playoff picture

  2. Nice analysis. One suggestion is to premier these vids at 9 pm eastern. Fans live chatting is what will drive subscriptions, and that isn't going to happen at midnight. If fans know they can hop on at 9 Pm and get some live chat, you'll have something to build on. Responding to 6 or 7 hour old posts just isn't the same.

  3. I see little hope the Isles sign a top forward this year. I think that was doomed from the start
when Lou decided not to go hard at the UFA market. Sure, you'll overpay and have to trade some players to clear cap while getting a little less for those players than you want, but it really was the only way it could happen.
Lous' route took him to a predictable place. Teams wanted a whole lot more for a star forward who was under contract, and the trade would strip the Isles of what little assets we have. Then, to acquire and sometimes extend those players contracts, Lou would be forced to…..trade some players to clear cap while getting a LOT less for those players than he wants.
So now the Isles are locked into Lous trade plan, and it will just get much more expensive during the season. Instead of trading out older players at bargain prices, Lou will have to give up some A grade prospects and picks to get what he wants.

I hope your analysis is right, because I believe this is the team we have to make a playoff run. If they can't do it, Lou needs to start aggressive trading for young, NHL ready talent, or give up on the veteran core and go for a full rebuild. If that happens, it won't be the veterans who failed us, it will be Lou who failed them. His job is to bring in the talent needed to get a cup, and he failed to do that. Perhaps the young guys will save his ass and make him look like a genius. We'll see.

  4. Another benefit of having a solid tandem is your “Starter” is not worked as hard during the regular season, less chances for injury. So when you hit the post season your Goalies are in better shape than most teams.

  5. I’m sorry but your main thesis team failed last season was due to starting off season with 13 games on the road. Though I would agree it does have some effect but not enough reason. Canucks had bad start and it was clearly due to the lack of coaching. Waldrom doubling his pts production is pier speculation. Unless he’s playing with Kadri or some other new linemates, it’s unlikely but I’m hopeful

  6. Islanders will be a bottom feeder team, huge step backwards wen they fired Trotz n replaced him with a no name, it’s like goin back to Doug Weight

  7. Wahlstrom won’t make difference unless he gets to play more

  8. Can we please just see Dufour with the big club? Sure, he will have his growing pains but, he's 20, 6'3" and 205…. he's big and developed enough. I GUARANTEE he will bring more production on a wing than any one of 3.. Bailey, Beauvillier, and/or Martin and Johnston combined. They need youth and jump. Dobson, Romanov, and Dufour should be key moving forward.

  9. why is it all isles top forward drafted players all seem to have that same fatal flaw? their skating. not fast enough for nhl game. wahlstrom/bellows both too slow. holmstrom had questions on skating. raty/dufour both have that question as they head to camp. dal colle's skating was sub par. dufour can snipe. can that translate on nhl ice? we know bellows/wahlstrom can shoot. more to nhl scoring than being able to shoot. they can't think the game properly to be 25-30 goal scorers. and this is the roster for season. forwards like fiala, jg, debrincat, matt t, huberdeau moved all over the place and j t re-signed as lou with no trade assets missed out on all of them. now isles got to play it out, see how the season plays out then see if lou overpays at the tdl. trade varly to a goal in need team at tdl. vgk may still need an upgrade. and i can see isles being in on kane. doubtful lou can land him with hawks looking for a max return for a rental-first, top prospect, nhl ready player-plus hawks have to eat salary. so isles can't beat what other teams can offer in kane trade plus rags will get in on it just to up the price. lou, you lose again. or if the season collapses move out any tradeable player-varly for one-then gauge what barzal can get isles in a package. talk to kraken who have young assets to bring juice to their line-up and bring barzal back west. in the meantime see what dufour and raty can do in camp. plus wilde is back from his lou 'banishment' overseas.
