[OC Tweet] C’est quelque chose que je me demandais. Wright a semblé fantastique dans l’OHL – est-ce que quelque chose s’est mal passé dans les coulisses ou son jeu n’a-t-il vraiment pas bien été traduit dans la LNH?

It’s the Hakstol way. He mismanaged players and Shane Wright is a victim of it. Best thing for his development is to send him down so he can play instead of riding the bench.

Look at Lafreniere with the rangers. It’s the old way of thinking where you need to earn your minutes, not every team does it tho(well coach). Imo, send him back to the OHL for this year. Fire hasktol next year after tanking this one. Actually develop and play the young players next year with a real coach.

He is young and needs time down to develop. They are hurting him by keeping him up playing 6 mon a game. He will be fine but send him down to get playing time.

  4. The OHL is a bunch of scrawny 16 and 17 year old kids, a world different than the NHL. Shane dominated them. Sending him to the OHL, while giving him more ice time, doesn’t really help his development either. The AHL is literally perfect for him, but we can’t send him there. My only guess is that they’ve communicated and he’s okay with these minutes, and will slowly ramp him up with lots of practice. We don’t know the whole story.

Man, thats a lot to unpack… chill out folks. Montreal is a worse team and a player playing on said team for more than a player on your team is more of a comment on where the two respective teams are than where the players are. Not every prospect hits immediately and it’s a bad idea to react when a teenager can’t step up to the plate right away, after 1 week. He likely needs time.

I imagine they are working him in slow. Like with rookie pitchers

Thanks for all the quick answers, folks. I genuinely wasn’t expecting such a quick and numerous reply. Y’all are definitely a lot more knowledgeable in this than me- I’m not too deep into the Kraken yet. I agree, it’s best to give him time to settle in- it’s a completely different game than the OHL, and it can be a lot for an 18yo. I’d imagine- he’s only 3 months older than me, the shift from HS to College is tough, I can’t imagine shifting from HS to the NHL!

Let’s give him some time- I watched Wright a lot (he lit up my Oshawa Generals like Christmas-light-covered-pylons last year), and there’s a lot to like in his game. Best of luck this year, Seattle! Love your jerseys btw.

Hasktol is not the coach that this team needed for leadership in its inception. He’s a structured sure but it’s not a structure that has proven to be effective either here or in Philly. The majority of fans that follow hockey saw that his name had been called for the coaching spot and all knew that within three years he was out. It would lead to a better team

Flyers fan here, Hakstol doesn’t play his rookies. Is just a bad coach in general so he’ll for some reason keep him on the roster and not play him instead of sending him down and developing him or giving him meaningful nhl mins

I’ve been paying attention since the first preseason game. He’s not noticeable when he’s on the ice. No huge mistakes, but nothing great either. I agree with everyone else, he needs more work.

It’s not uncommon for a top amateur athlete to make it to the professional level.

Yeah been wondering why he hasn’t seen much ice time

He’s 18. Wright is no different than an 18 year old getting drafted in NBA or MLB, they are not ready to play against men….they are high school graduates.

He’s in NHL today not to excel, but to learn how to be a pro and practice good habits..that’s it. These high picks were all superstars in Junior, and need a little attitude adjustment once get drafted, it’s perfectly normal. He’ll learn more playing 6 mins a night in NHL than 30mins in Junior, as long as he plays protected minutes.
