  1. i can remember when there was 12-13 lights out stoppers in the league. now? maybe 3-4? maybe the 6'4"-6'6" goalie experiment is starting to show some warts. they're big boys but a lot of them are starting to have health issues.

  2. Grant Fuhr and Andy Moog might have to come out of retirement to play for Edmonton. Their goaltending styles are fit for the Oilers lack of d-fence

  3. In fairness to Soup…

Edmonton has gone back to the 80's…
Soup may have thought TO had poor D… Edmonton doesn't play D…

Nurse is an Offensive Dman… so are Barrie, Bouchard, Ceci, Murray, and Kulak… it's a toss up between Kulak and Ceci as to which one is our better 'shut down" Dman.

Unfortunately for Soup… Stew has the advantage as he is a born and bread Oiler…

I'm fully confident Soup will learn to play D too… as all good former Oiler netminders have… Fuhr, Moug, Ranford, CuJo, Rolly, Salo, Smith… even Kosk was getting with the program last season… I think Soup will figure out the D zone coverage faster than Kosk did…

The main secret to being the Oilers goaltender/top defender … is to play the puck!… Kosk's #1 weakness until last season.

  4. Samsonov looked really good and won both games he played. I’m not worried. Honestly if kallgren can back up well and Samsonov keeps it up, he’s young enough where I’d just run with him. A lot of upside and could be a good redemption story plus he’s only 25. If he really shows out then he could be a maple leaf goalie for years to come.

  5. Should you look at the game against Calgary, Campbell could not be faulted for any of the 4 scored on him. He was hung out to dry!

  6. It's not good. But it's not a crisis either. Leafs did go with a 1A/1B situation so they still have another starter to lean on for the next month or so until Murray is back. Heck it's got the positive of freeing up cap space to let them field extra players that they can slot in, instead of the minimum. Neither team is in actual trouble since they are full of offensive talent and October hockey is ruled by scoring and not defense/goaltending. They'll both be fine.

  7. I cant believe Toronto with their brain trust went for Matt Murray. He was already washed up several years ago when Pittsburg dumped him. He is very skinny and very fragile. He will miss more games than he plays even practice is too rough for him. He should retire but if they keep paying him..why? He may be
Bad but he is not dumb.

  8. Are we literally going to micro analyze every game. Here's a fact. All goals are not created equal and all goals are not the goaltenders fault. The Oilers started both games sleepwalking at paid for that against a better team in Calgary than Vancouver. How the team plays in front of them has a huge impact on the goaltending. Skinner looked awesome and I'm not concerned in the least at how Campbell will perform.

  9. The Oilers lost a game, you need to relax, we went a long ways last year. Oilers fans don't turn on their team.

  10. 1—Campbell has played the grand total of 1 game and 10 minutes for Edmonton. He is 1–1. The entire TEAM has slow starts vs Vancouver and Calgary. That is the real issue. Soupy was excellent for most of the Vancouver game, stopping breakaways and getting the win. He will be fine.
2—The goals he gave vs Calgary saw pucks deflected off broken sticks, D-men falling down, a 1 in a million seeing eye shot from Stone and a free for all at our crease. Not Soupy's fault!!
3—Skinners last NHL start last year was a shutout, he shut the door and gave up nothing vs Calgary. He looks more and more confident. Glad to see it. Good Edmonton kid too.
4—Mike Smith is still an Oiler. He is on LTIR and has NOT retired. He is too stubborn. He has 1 more year left. We have not heard the last from him. Either as an Oiler, or traded at the deadline.
5—Calvin Pickard apparently and an excellent training camp. He is 30, and has NHL experience in the regular seaspn AND in the playoffs. Not bad for a number 3 or 4 guy, insurance policy. Oilers have not had that luxury the last few years.
