  1. Hedman feels too old for you to have in the core. He’s 30 now and that seemed like that was past your cutoff

  2. I think Tampa won't repeat because they're in a weak division. Wins will come relatively easy for this club, there won't be the same fighting spirit as last year. They'll be in the semifinals against a team who played in a far tougher division and they won't make it out of that series

  3. With my understanding of the structure of divisions and playoff, TBL shouldn't face any real contender until they run into the Avs or VGK in the conf finals. They are in a really good position to repeat!

  4. Point's next contract in summer of 22 is going to cause another cap crisis because his QO is going to be $9,000,000

  5. I'm calling it now. TB won't win this division and as TB fan, i'm fine with it. Winning is important in playoffs not in season. Why? They usually struggle against Preds, Canes. Jackets are tough to beat. Don't know about matchup against Stars.

  6. Can anyone tell me where he got that Sens hat he wore in the video he made 5 days ago on the Sens 2020-2021 preview? I’ve looked on every site I can think of but it’s not there?

  7. They pretty much breezed through the playoffs, head and shoulders better than any other team, not even close. Yeah they lost a few players because of cap issues but I still think it's a head and shoulders situation this time around. Clear cut favourites IMO. I don't think VGK or the Avs have enough to beat them yet. Everyone's picking the Avs but I'm left wondering why people are suddenly forgetting how dominant Tampa was this year.

  8. Tampa Bay should have a phenomenal year. Should be interesting to see their roster and cap crunch in the next couple weeks. Figure there has to be at least 1-2 casualties.

  9. Even if they lose Cirelli, if they have a healthy Stamkos, they might be even better this year in the playoffs…I get that Cirelli is vital to the future, but Stamkos is still a better player than him at this point and time

  10. they dont need "big adds" … they have crazy depth at fwd. and its really a matter of everyone simply staying healthy … Volkov, boulettte, etc. blue line is fine – shenn, coburn, etc. plenty of depth.

they will prob trade killorn, possibly palat.

tampa is really just a bunch of interchangeable parts up and down the lineup.

they (finally) have a roster that allows them to play different types of game styles.

  11. If they are able to keep Cirelli and Hedman is healthy and Vasil wants to prove he isn't a one hit wonder.. my money will be again on them. Stamkos keeps finding ways to get hurt.
Love to have Cirelli on my team…. if the TB looking for a cheaper (3mil well for one year only) center and want another cup this year.. i know of one 😀
Hehe.. but then there matter of my team having to make cap space(and the same for TB).. and deal with fans that think we already have enough centers.

  12. @The Hockey Guy its kind of a shame that nobody really cares about the tampa bay lightning outside of tampa. TBL is an amazing model franchise starting with owner jeff vinik. am really impressed with how this team has come along over the years. with their core they should be a legit threat this year to repeat and be competitive in the next 3-5 years. and am really loving this brayden point's game on the ice.

lastly thanks for this excellent video you put up.

    cheers from southern ontario 🍁

  13. They're not trading Stamkos anytime soon, likely not ever. The problem in Tampa isn't their top-paid guys…the value is there with Stamkos', Hedman's & Kucherov's deals. The problem is giving players like Johnson & Gourde $5M AAV. Also, that McDonagh deal really hurts; I'm hoping Seattle takes him in the expansion draft. And, even tho Vasy is the best goalie on the planet, it always hurts giving a goalie $9.5M AAV. Even as a diehard Bolts fan, idk how JBB pulls this off without having to trade away some valuable assets.

  14. Why wouldn't another team just come in and pick those players. If your the players i get that you would want to stay with the team that just won a cup but i would also think you'd like to get paid this year. If i were tampa I'd definitely move stamkos to sign two guy's who really helped you win a cup. They obviously don't need him to win and I'm sure a team like Ottawa or Detroit who have some money would love to have some veteran leadership. Red Wings would be an interesting option considering they're gm.

  15. Tampa bay has an excellent chance of repeating. I'll say 65% chance they'll raise the cup again!

  16. Gourde just plays so different and tougher than Johnson. He has that playoff mentality and isn't scared of anyone on the ice. The team needs him out there as he is one of the secret weapons and is a lot younger. Excited to see cal foote out there, give him a season or two and he'll be up and running just fine.

  17. Heres a scenario
Nhl allows players to opt out with a 50%cap hit
Stamkos sits out to allow core injury to fully heal
    Bolts resign cirelli and cernak
End of season johnson, killorn, macD traded or open for expansion draft

  18. This year towards the end of the playoffs i watched quest for the stanley cup and every time they covered Tampa Bay and Jon Cooper giving a locker room speech he nailed it he said all the right things every time such as before game 6 he focused on not worrying about the end goal which was winning the cup but rather trusting the process and letting things unfold on their own and they’ll be successful and thats what they did

  19. With short season it will effect time for recovery from injuries. So, it all depends on injuries if they are going to repeat. They are certainly good enough and capable of repeating. Go Bolts!

  20. TB likely got an easy ride into play-offs. I wonder if they are as hungry this time around. I predict top 2 east(central east?), I can see Isles being the opponent in the CF finals, unless CBJ takes them out in the semis. Car or Phi can also be tough if they got momentum going into a serie.

  21. I can honestly see sergachev being close to the same level as hedman in 3 or so years

  22. Just missed kucherov news, interested to see your opinion on that. Well see how true the news is too

  23. Why would any junior want to be drafted by TBL ?? if its going to take extra years before actually seeing NHL time (maybe) … by that time player's best years are behind them in Syracuse.

  24. Agree with a lot of the breakdown. I was fully on board with firing Cooper, and he changed this last playoffs. First adjustments I've really seen him make.

I know there is a ton of Cirelli hype right now, but I think it's too much if I'm completely honest. Bottom line is the Lightning 2nd line was absolutely their worst line in the playoffs, and was one of the worst lines for ANY team in the playoffs. Obviously that's not all on him, but I have real questions if he is a legit top 6 player or not. I'm not sure he doesn't end up a floater in the middle 6 that is elite defensively. And if that is the case, there is no way you can let Stamkos go (there is nobody there for 2nd line scoring).

I'll give some defense of Gourde here as well. His numbers were not good. But he was also used horribly. He played mainly 4th line all last season, and he is much better than that.

I'm ok with the hype pick. I think Katchouk will be a very solid player. Though I think some of their mid-late round picks this draft may end up being the next superstar steals for them, but that is a ways out.

Last one I'll touch on, rookie to watch. I'm not convinced they will use Foote too much now that they have resigned Rutta (yes, hindsight now for you). They SHOULD, as Rutta is a borderline NHL player (no idea why they brought him back with their cap issues), and Hedman can make me look serviceable on the top d pair (which is why he is the best dman and it's not close). I think you are going to see a rookie getting top 6 forward minutes next year as most believe Johnson and probably Killorn will be gone. Barre-Boulet is very interesting to me, but I've honestly been a bit disappointed in some of his call ups (just hasn't done what I hoped). They seem to love Volkov, and they seem to like him getting on the top 6 when he is called up. I think he is my pick for this spot.

  25. I like THG views on TBL. I hated to lose Stralman & Boyle. I would be sad to lose T. Johnson, Kallorn & Stamkos, but they won the Cup. Money needed to sign Cirelli, Cermak & keep Point. They should make playoffs. Go TBL
