I really have to totally disagree with your guest Rewucki here. I think the Jets top
6 is just about as good as anybody in the league, especially with Ehers in the
lineup. The only question mark it appears is Dubois, with his lack of disciplined
play. Scheifele is playing good, off to a good start, and Wheeler is playing good
on the 2nd line, and Perfetti is a very smooth playmaker who will be a big star.
The bottom 6 is OK, and this Axil guy looks like he has breakaway speed, and not
bad hands, so he may become a very good player, and this Gagne gives then some
goal scoring. On top of all this, you have a 40 – 50 goal scorer in Connor.
Problem with the Jets is their "small defense" so they have to work on that. You
can't start trading guys like Dillon who plays rough and will clear the front of
the net, and go into the corners. Dillon will also protect some of our smaller talent
guys like Perfetti, Ehlers and Connor. Forget about Heinola, get rid of the guy, as
you can see he's not physical and plays timidly out there. They need to develop
Samberg ( good size) and maybe give Chisholm a shot. The only 2 defenseman
I would not deal right now are Morrissey and Dillon, and also Pionk seems to be
playing well as of late. This team beat Colorado, without Ehlers, and beat the
Rangers, who are both good teams. They got off to a rough start in Vegas. Their
is a reason why Maurice, and now Bowness are not playing Heinola, as he's just
not physical enough, and he's much like Niku, who they got rid of.
Considering they have a great goaltender, I think the Jets are a playoff team for
sure, and maybe can push higher, if coached properly, and I think Bowness can
do this, as he did with Dallas. Right now, it's far to early in the game to start
trading guys like Dillon, when that's "exactly" what you need.
You also have to figure we have Lambert and Lucius coming up, and they too,
may also be excellent NHLr's, and maybe Axil will become very solid. The
improvements the Jets need to make are on defense, with big physical
defenseman, that can move the puck. Guys like Morrisssey, Pionk, and Demelo
are undersized defenseman, so this is where the Jets have to make some
changes, and I hope they will. I should add, finding these kind of defenseman
is easier said than done, as there's not an over abundance of them.
