That clusterfuck definitely wasn’t worth staying up for!

  2. doublewrister

bout to kms for staying up for this

  3. BeenWaitingForThis88

The second I saw JT was back, I didn’t really care that we lost the game tbh

  4. Gear4Vegito

**Samsonov + 2nd Line (Nylander / Tavares / Robertson)** awesome work today as well as through the first 7 games.

    Everyone else…

  5. ProfessorBeast55

Absolutely shambolic performance defensively. Sammy doesn’t deserve the L.

Offence was putrid too, exceptions to Willy and JT

  6. SaintMarzano

    Pathetic effort top to bottom.

  7. aznassasin

Pathetic effort other than Willy and JT

  8. Nameless908

Well at least tavares came back. Time to shake and bake that first line.

Unless Matt Murray’s groin heals up and he gets back to his back to back cup winning self Dubas blew the cushiest job any one could ask for and the best core of players most GM’s have the privilege of building a team around since Crosby and Ovi. 0 cups, 0 playoff rounds won and we are RUNNING OUT OF TIME! Matthews might stay or he might leave obviously the team will be a million times better with him but has the last 4 or 5 seasons have shown it’s hard to win a cup even with a top 3 centre (last year he wasn’t 2,3 either). If he leaves we will need a DEEP REBUILD. Like our goalie prospects are C-‘s all around and we don’t have many NHL ready prospects besides Knies and whatever a 21 year old AHLer like Robertson is considered at this point in time. Please Samsonov be ELITE so we can at least find a serviceable backup and make the damn playoffs in the toughest division.

Glad Tavares came back. Hope he’s okay. Disappointed in this team and the lack of cohesion.

This is what we get for preventing Phil from getting his 400th. /s

Imagine you’re the Leafs after the second period. You’ve been outplayed and outskated for the first part of this game and Samsanov has kept you in the game so it’s tied. What do you do? You leave Samsanov out to dry in the third. Flat out embarrassing.

  12. cappo40

Another solid 60 minute effort by the Leafs.

  13. Superaverunt

Absolutely terrible effort. Samsonov was a bright spot and I’m glad JT seemed okay and skated the end of the game but if this is the effort they’re going to put were in for a short season and a new GM/coach next year

  14. madworld2713

Justin Holl is so bad it’s not even funny… he better be a healthy scratch rest of the season

  15. gregblives

I’m stoked JT wasn’t seriously hurt. First 2 periods were okay, that third not so much. On to the next game.

  16. offside21

So much dead weight. Clifford. Holl. Engvall.

  17. RestartNick

    Some takeaways:

    – Engvall is paid way too much to be pedestrian and be on the fourth line

    – First Line (Marner, Bunting, Matthews) have only 3 5-on-5 goals in 7 games. They need to do better.

  18. BCharmer

Leafs playing like they have nothing on the line. Very odd from a team with six straight first round exits.

  19. 16th_Notes

Bye bye Dubas. Going to be an interesting next season.

  20. Mrfantastic2

I’m not exaggerating when I say they might’ve played with effort for 5 minutes tonight. Funny how such a skilled team starts playing when it’s too late. I remember the much less skilled teams having more fight at times honestly.

  21. ProKrastinNation

What was even their excuse to play like that?

  22. Living-RentFree

Anyone else has Matthews on their fantasy team?

  23. riko77can

Don’t deserve a day off in Vegas. Give them bag skates and video review sessions instead.

  24. IlikeTurtles1308

The thing is the leafs weren’t even playing good and it was tied going to the 3rd and played like absolute ass holes the first 5 minutes of the 3rd

Saying it’s frustrating would be understatement but at least samsonov showed up so that’s good

  25. Significant_News_638

While a lot of early season things are not worth panicking over (such as Matthews slump), definitely a few concerning trends:

    – have yet to really control play in a game despite playing 6 of 7 against teams that missed the playoffs last year
    – 0 5v5 offense to be found in the bottom 6
    – Rielly has been abysmal on defense (even for him) without his usual counter-effect on offense
    – Justin Holl…. Just no words
    – Bunting has been completely ineffective

This game reminded me alot of the early season shit pumping Pittsburgh gave them last year. Hopefully similar to that, it’s the anomaly not the norm and a needed wake up; but let’s be fucking serious, this team has been snoozing wake up calls since 2017 now, you’d think they’d be awake

  26. Good news: Tavares able to get back into the game

Bad news: the rest of the game…

  27. HonestlyUninterested

Could have gone better, the boys need to want to win in the 3rd, but overall a solid game

  28. freakypsycho

Another incredibly disjointed and frustrating game to watch. Patience has basically run out with the top line. they have to start producing.

  29. th484952

Vegas flu. They looked terrible out there. I get they are allowed to have a night out to have some fun but don’t make it so obvious boys.

  30. Holl is an AHL player.

Marner doesn’t deserve to play with Matthews. 11M and he can’t even get it going when Matthews is struggling.

  31. alphacheese

3 bright spots: Samsonov, Nylander, and JT returning.

That may have been Brodie’s worst game as a Leaf

  32. mikez56

you wonder what they do during practice? perhaps knitting???

does the entire coaching staff just do nothing??? same issues year after year.

  33. dmanilluminati

Happy John is alright. The only one on the team with heart (Samsonov aside).

  34. M0un05ki10

Anybody got a clean shot of what happened to Tavares? What happened? I swear that the puck hit the Knights player first and then barely touched JT afterwards.

  35. JamesCurtis24

What I care about more than wins is just seeing anything from this team that makes me believe that when push comes to shove in the playoffs, things will be different.

I’m just not seeing it. Again, it’s not the losses. You can lose and still make believe you competed and gave your best shot but I’m just not seeing it. I mean whatever, the time change blows, I can grant them that. I just really hope that as the season progresses they can change my mind on how things will go in the playoffs.

  36. mikez56

Leafs remind me of a very poorly maintained expensive sports car.

  37. powerslave789

Well the positive is this is probably going to be the season that ends the Kyle Dubas experiment.

  38. Candymanshook

This team has a depth scoring issue. We need Malgin on that third line and please never ice the goons again let them be good locker room practice players.

  39. BigGuyBryan

One thing I would like to point out is that the leafs really need to learn how to simplify there game. One thing Vegas did well all night was just make the simple play. Serious pressure in their own end? Glass and out. Not much of a cycle or offence being generated? Throw it on net. Counter rush opportunity? Capitalize. I think this is one the biggest problems plaguing the leafs the last 3 seasons. The inability to make simple and smart hockey plays results in the players trying to force and extra pass or make an extra move resulting in turnovers and scoring chances for our opponents. I know it looks great to buzz around the offensive zone making 20 passes and cycle the puck around but the reality is you are not scoring from the perimeter, you gotta throw something on the net eventually. God, for a team with so much potential I don’t understand how they cannot put the pieces together and play consistently good hockey.

  40. Vilheim

The front of our net was free real estate tonight. Whether they wanted to pass into it, pass through it or just skate the puck right into it themselves there was no issue.

We had trouble making it to the top of their circles without being collapsed on by 2, sometimes 3 knights. They were allowed to just live in the slot.

Samsonov deserved a win for bailing is out endlessly.

  41. TheCarrier89

That was a big ooof. Boys hit the town a little too hard last night I think. On to the next 🤷‍♂️

  42. TheWomper

    Switch Bunting and Robertson

Buntings scrappy playstyle would mesh better with Nylander and Tavares while Marners playmaking would greatly benefit Robertsons quick release shot.

Kerfoot (3.5m) and Engvall (2.25m) cap hit is not being used to the teams best interests. Sure Kerfoot is a swiss army knife and Engvall is good on the PK but the Leafs need defence badly and a trade for someone like Soucy (2.75m) would be a huge upgrade on the blueline.

Tavares was the real Iron Man tonight, I thought he was going straight to LTIR after that walk off but JT is made of tough stuff. Big respect for the captain.

  43. That looked like the worst effort of the year, minus Samsonov.
